Nehemiah had an amazing 52 days. He had cast vision for people who didn't know him, yet he convinced them to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem. This impossible task was made even more difficult due to his enemies constantly attempting to distract and destroy him. Additionally, there was considerable infighting. But the work continued with ... The post The Power of Co-Working with God appeared first on Unconventional Business Network.

Today on Exploring the Marketplace, Shawn Bolz and Bob Hasson tackle a struggle many leaders, creatives, and believers quietly carry: striving for God instead of working with God.This episode features guest Nathaniel Vossler, former CFO turned founder of Rhema Now, an app designed to help believers engage in listening prayer, group intensives, and Spirit-led coaching. In early 2025, Nathaniel stepped away from the corporate world after sensing God's clear call into a new season—building this platform alongside his wife while raising their growing family in Idaho.Together, Shawn, Bob, and Nathaniel get practical about:Moving from pressure to presenceSaying no to good things that aren't God thingsCreating Spirit-led rhythms for your calendar and decisionsHearing God clearly in real business and life transitionsLetting go of ego, overcommitment, and burnoutBuilding sustainably with God, not just for HimShawn and Bob also share personal stories of burnout, overextension, and the hard-earned wisdom that comes from learning to surrender control and trust God's pace. This episode is an honest, hope-filled invitation to trade striving for peace—and rediscover what it looks like to walk in true partnership with the Holy Spirit. If you're tired, driven, successful—but longing for peace—this conversation is for you.
According to scripture (John 5:17) when challenged to justify healing on the Sabbath, Jesus said "My Father is always working, and so am I." Perhaps this was a reminder that observing the Sabbath did not mean there is a cessation of the activity of God. And, because of our connection with God, there is a continuous activity or working that is taking place in us, through us and as us. Martha: Welcome to the iWork4Him Power thought for the day, we are Jim and Martha Brangenberg with iWork4Him Jim: During your commute today, whether its walking down the hallway or driving down the highway, what will you think about? Martha: Will you be caught up in the stress of the day or will you be preparing your heart for what God is going to do today, alongside you in your work? Jim: God set the workplace standard before evil entered our world. He gave Adam a job to name all the animals. An almost impossible task, except that God brought all the animals to him. Martha: You see, God doesn't expect us to get the job done without helping us. Jim: What if today, on your “way” to work, you spend that time asking God to reveal His purpose in your work and your placement in your workplace. Neither are by accident. Martha: How we spend our first moments of the day makes a huge impact on the rest of the day, especially our work. Spend your “commute” wisely today. There is a truth about work that has been lost to much of our culture since the creation of the world. It is that GOD CREATED WORK. He created work for us, to do together and for HIS glory. Genesis 2: 19 So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. Work is NOT a PUNISHMENT, it's a GIFT. And God wants to JOIN US in it. Every day. He DELIGHTS in it. He is our team-mate, just as He was with Adam. He brought the animals TO Adam to name. So how about YOU? Won't you invite God to work WITH YOU today? WHEREVER He has placed you?

This week I share an insight about working with God that has been especially important to me over the years. It's about the difference between process thinking and event thinking. This idea is one of the many gifts God has given me through mentors. The Christian life is a process, a pathway, a journey. Working with God is, too.

Throughout the year, I host half- and full-day retreats to bring the message of redefining hustle and pursuing success God's way to Christian women in business. Recently I hosted the WITH retreat, focused on what it means to be working WITH God, bringing in concepts from Allen Arnold's book "The Story of With." While we may think that working with God is logical because we know what to do in business and we know how our relationship with God works. Yet what I heard time and again in the room that day is that women are often challenged by integrating their faith and business. The gap between these areas is what often leads us to overwhelm, overachievement and missing out on the clarity, serenity and fulfillment: the abundant life Jesus promises. And hearing this, I came to two realizations: 1. God is always inviting us to His more, His plan, His work. We are called to be His co-laborers, but He doesn't force it on us: we have the free will to choose working with God. To quote Allen Arnold from the book: "we can either run with God or run from God, but the only way to experience His miracles is to put ourselves in position and to operate from a posture in which we actually need him." 2. I am humbled and honored to be used by God as His vessel for this message of redefining hustle, and I'm honored that you follow my content. But please remember: It is the Trinity that brings this message forth, and only Father, Son and Holy Spirit who deserve your true following! In part 2 of this mini series, I'm sharing excerpts from the WITH retreat, in which we applied the 4 Keys to Redefine Hustle: Define, Direct, Discipline and Develop to working WITH God. So we could understand His desire for us to work with Him, His direction for doing so, how to do it in real life, and how the Holy Spirit develops us over time to get stronger in doing so. I believe we often lower and limit our expectations based on what we know we can do, and because we like to be in control. However, that's leaving God out and trying to fit Him into our box. Let's stop doing that by truly committing to working WITH Him. In this episode we're focused on the third and fourth keys to apply His definition and direction with DISCIPLINE, and continue to DEVELOP the muscle of working with God: How do we actually "do" working with God? It takes discipline: Discipline of seeking Him (ongoing) Discipline of obedience = taking action Disciplined focus Working with God takes development: Commitment and Consistency takes development Surrender takes development Obedience takes development Discipline takes development Working in expectancy takes development In the end, the key is WITH. As Psalm 27:14 in The Message version tells us: Stay with God. Take heart. Don't quit. I'll say it again, stay with God. As you listen (or watch on my YouTube channel), please remember that this is God's message He's given me to share and I am simply the vessel. While I so appreciate you following and engaging with the content I share here, on social media, through my emails, through my coaching and strategy days. etc., ultimately it is Him that gets the glory and whom to follow. Remember that our responsibility is to keep Him at the center. Let's stop doing that by truly committing to working WITH Him. In this episode we're focused on the first two keys: DEFINE and DIRECT How does is working with God defined by God Himself, and how does He define you? How are we directed for working with God by God's own directions, and how do we lean in more to understand and accept His direction? Here are a few questions to ask God as you pray over applying these two keys to working with Him: Show me how I define my identity is misaligned to how you define me. What gets in the way of me hearing and obeying your direction? What am I clinging to that needs to be released? Reveal to me any blind spots that hinder me or are barriers that keep me from working with you. What stops me from allowing you to have your way in my business? As you listen (or watch on my YouTube channel), please remember that this is God's message He's given me to share and I am simply the vessel. What does it mean to work with God? For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. 1 Corinthians 3:9 NASB God is doing the work. We labor with him. but the work, the schedule, the timing, the results are all up to Him. This passage is often interpreted to be pointed at pastors building churches, but this applies to our lives as well. The "ministry" part of our life is what lives on forever. We can't impact the eternal. We can only abide in Jesus. As we walk with God and do what he says, when he says it, then we get to take part in His work. I don't want to push and rush. I want to rest in Jesus more. Can I trust God more with my day? Our bosses and our customers expect a lot. Can we serve them and make a difference in their lives by trusting God more and doing what he calls us to do? Can we build into our schedules time to rest in Jesus and abide in him? Some ideas in this podcast episode came from My Utmost April 23 Do You Worship The Work? Are these podcasts beneficial to you? If so, please consider making a gift to our organization. We're a donor-supported podcast and online community. You can make a one-time or ongoing gift at https://followerofone.org/donate. And new gifts are being matched dollar for dollar up to a total of $50,000. So now more than ever, your contributions will help Christ-followers integrate their faith into their daily life.
In this podcast we see what the Bible says about God's will for our financial lives, and then we learn how to integrate our spiritual and financial lives. We also discuss practical steps to begin operating in God's financial system. In God's amazing economic system, we increase, bless others, honor God, and draw closer to Him all at the same time!
Today, rather than sharing an author interview or a leadership conversation, I'm going to share a daily practice that has been an important element of my unhurried life and work rhythms for a while now. It's rooted in some of the insights I wrote about in the last chapter of An Unhurried Leader, which is titled “Working with God.” By the way, episode 205 of this podcast, “Working for God or Working with God,” based on that chapter, is one of our top five most downloaded episodes. If you haven't already listened to that one, I encourage you to go back to it. This has been a big idea that's been transforming how I think about and engage my work. The daily practice I'm going to share with you in this episode is one I've come to call, “Praying my Work.” Perhaps like you, I keep track of my work in terms of projects and tasks that I'm engaging in a personal task manager that syncs between my computer and my smartphone. There are plenty of tools like this, and you probably use a tool like this to manage your own work. The daily practice of “Praying my work” begins at the end of each day as part of my night prayer. I enjoy starting and ending my day with the daily office of The Book of Common Prayer. This rhythm of praying historic prayers and key passages of scripture has been one important way of praying for me for years now.
