Aaron grew up ultra conservative, went to a private Chriatian school all 13 years, attended seminary, did all the things "right" according to the southern Bible belt way. He started asking questions, and what has been and is continually being revealed is that the God of our "learning" is not the God of our "knowing". Father Bricw leads us in praying for Chriatian unity.
If someone asks "Are you religious?", how might a Chriatian respond?
What am I talking about? Forgiving someone seventy times seven? Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times. Matt. 18:21-22 ESVThat is 490 times! That’s a lot!Although Jesus did not say seventy times seven per day in the above verse, he does specifically say “per day” in others. In Luke 17:4 (NIV), Jesus says, “If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, ‘I repent’, forgive him.”In the Bible, seven is the number of completion. An example is Gen. 2:2-3 (NIV)“By the seventh day God finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he ceased from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it he ceased from all the work of creating that he had done.” The footnote in the NIV Bible says the word ceased was used instead of rested.Seventy signifies spiritual perfection. So seventy times seven means we need to forgive someone completely, and not let it continue to fester or play over and over again in our minds. The only way we can get rid of it is through the spiritual perfection of Jesus, in us. We must die to self daily. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Gal. 2:20 NIVSince Christ lives in me, I must allow his life to flow through me and choose to do so daily, through faith. It doesn’t matter if they are sorry or not. I must forgive as he forgives.Read the full devotion at https://devotableapp.com/daily-devotion-forgive-someone-seventy-times-seven/
Daily Devotion - Psalm 119 - What are Spiritual Disciplines?“Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways. You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees!” Psalm 119:1-5, NIVWhat is Spiritual DisciplineDiscipline is defined as training expected to produce a particular pattern of behavior. Discipline is not part of the sin nature, but it is a natural element of the Christian life. Without discipline, nothing significant in our lives is ever accomplished. Now, spiritual disciplines can be described as those behaviors that improve our spiritual growth and allow us to grow to spiritual maturity. The purpose of spiritual discipline is the development of that part of us which is transformed by Christ at salvation. (See 2 Corinthians 5:17)Types of Spiritual DisciplinesThere are two types of spiritual disciplines: those that are personal and those that are corporate. The personal disciplines are those that each individual should develop for him or herself, while the corporate disciplines are those that the entire church body can do together.Personal Disciplines Prayer Fasting Bible Study Evangelism Service StewardshipCorporate Disciplines Celebration Confession Seeking Guidance WorshipThe Rewards of Spiritual DisciplineWe are not granted favor with God or any measure of spiritual success through the practice of spiritual disciplines. Through these disciplines, we are enabled to obey God’s command “…to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” (Philippians 2:12-13)
