If you love thick, fuzzed-filled psych guitars, and heavy pounding drums, then Brother O Brother is your band! Chris Banta is the lead singer and guitar player for this 2 piece band, and he sat down with me to chat about the band and their music. They have a new album out titled Skin Walker, and it is a must listen! It is filled with heavy riffs, great hooks, and lyrics addressing A.I. tech, mass surveillance, big brother, and political polarization. And...it is meant to be played LOUD!Chris and his drummer, Warner Swopes, also own Romanus Records, a custom vinyl record company. We spend some time discussing how the company came to be and his passion for making ultra cool and unique LPs. And now...Romanus Custom Vinyl MFG is the latest addition to roster of companies taking custom vinyl projects to the next level. This is a fun, entertaining conversation! Shark Boy was a lucha libre style shark who later morphed into a lucha libre shark themed stone cold steve austin parody. Its quite the tale.
This man does it all! Plays in a band, manages his band, makes vinyl for his band, makes custom vinyl for other bands, and is one hell of a family man! This week, we sat down with one of our favorite Indianapolis residents Jeff Nordyke. Jeff is the City Director for Sofar Sounds: Indianapolis. Aside from booking upwards of 150 artists "so far" (haha), Jeff is determined to lend his hand to the musicians in our city with his extensive music business experience. We discuss the history of Sofar Sounds, his upcoming plans for a production company, & the local artists he loves. We know you have time to listen, so check it out! Find us on Spotify & Apple Podcasts, and all other major platforms. As a side note, we will be releasing an episode on COVID-19's effect on our local industries & the people we love. Please ask your artist friends, entrepreneur friends, service industry friends, musician friends, etc. how you can help them. Buy merch & buy gift cards. We'll get through this together. Chris Banta is in one of my favorite newfound bands, Brother O' Brother. Chris and Warner Swopes make some beautiful blues-driven noise and put on a show like you've never seen.
Brother O'Brother vocalist/guitarist and Romanus Records founder Chris Banta has been wowing vinyl collectors as of late with incredibly innovative pressings ranging from the world's first four-color, glow-in-the-dark, liquid-filled LP to a recent seven-inch on Fonoflo Records with customized Monopoly money inside. Based out of Indianapolis, the band's creativity when it comes to vinyl -- as well as their frenzied, retro sound -- have recently scored them gigs at Third Man Records' Nashville and Detroit locations, leading to Chris even using one of Jack White's amps during their set! You may have heard Heather and Sarah from Wax Mage Records sing his praises back on episode 17 of the show, and today he discusses Brother O'Brother's paint and confetti-fueled music video for "You Would," the rare hydra press he did for Third Man act The Greenhornes, how Third Man's Ben Blackwell purchased Chris' first glow-in-the-dark dinosaur bone record, his own pressings going for hundreds of dollars on Discogs, an upcoming Star Wars-themed variant Chris is working on and much more! Follow @brotherobrother_ and @romanusrecords on Instagram to check out all the crazy vinyl we talk about on this episode.
Chris Banta is an artist, musician and business owner that produces incredibly unique pieces in the form of playable vinyl records! Some of his claims to fame include records filled with sand, Doritos, LEDs, snakeskin, maggots, scorpions, blood and more! (Chris assured me that real blood isn't practical, though it would be cooler if it was). We talk about music, art, running a small business and of course he takes the Paranormal Conspiracy Probe like a true champ.Check out Chris Banta and Romanus Records at:https://romanusrecords.com/If you like this content and want to help support creating more please consider becoming a patreon or buying a book, comic, sticker or other merch.
