Around the age of 19, Klaus Nielsen was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, a mental health condition that caused him to see events that never happened, and made him terrified at everyday situations. On this episode, Zahid presents his newest book Paranoid Publics: Psychopolitics of Truth, which explores the relationship between truth, power, and the psyche. The book, influenced in part by the work of Michel Foucault and psychoanalytic theory, examines the rise of QAnon, the concept of freedom in political movements, and the impact of social realities on the body, as seen in cases like the Havana syndrome and resignation syndrome. Josie Moore grew up in the valley town of Westfield, Massachusetts with a voice that wouldn't work and a brain filled to bursting. Paranoid by the world and abandoned by those around her, she turned to art in her time of hiding. When she was scared, she wrote about it. When she cried, she drew comforting pictures. With the inability to pinpoint and process her own emotions, she used art and storytelling as her communication, turning her fear into something beautiful. Nowadays, she can finally leave her bedroom, but never without a sketchbook by her side. She attends the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in hopes of getting her BFA in Illustration. She spends her days doodling elves, bears, and silly little faeries and nights writing, planning, and…hopefully writing some more. Finally having an outlet to put all her obsessive, creative energy, she dreams of one day showing even the deepest crevices of her mind with her odd love stories and twisted mysteries. The Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests are the most prestigious writing and illustrating competitions in the world with the Writers of the Future being in its 43rd year, the Illustrators of the Future in its 38th year and they are judged by the premier names in speculative fiction. The Illustrators of the Future Contest judges include, Bob Eggleton (11 Chesley Awards and 9 Hugo Awards), Larry Elmore (Dungeons & Dragons book covers), Echo Chernik (graphic designs for major corporations including Celestial Seasonings tea packaging), Rob Prior (art for Spawn, Heavy Metal comics and Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Ciruelo (Eragon Coloring Book). Joseph Sidari lives in the Boston suburbs with his wife and a delightfully spoiled labradoodle named Chloe, who takes him for walks twice a day. As a practicing physician, he works hard caring for his patients while trying to kill off his protagonists. He is a current member of the Grub Street Writers Group of Boston and a former member of the Spacecraft Writers' Group. He's been a lifelong fan of reading speculative fiction, but only started writing it after flipping his bicycle during triathlon training. Typing at his computer felt like a less risky hobby, so that summer, with his wrist on the mend, he wrote a novel. Then another. On his third attempt, he found an agent who suggested that writing short stories could help build his reputation while the book was being shopped around. The manuscript never sold, but he realized short stories were fun, too. Since then, he has earned multiple honorable mentions in the Writers of the Future contest and two Silvers, while publishing several short stories—though not enough to “pro out." This story was one of those honorable mentions. You know the email Joni Labaqui [contest director] sends? The one that suggests to “revise and resubmit an old story if you don't have anything new.” It resonated. “I liked the idea of the epistolary tale I'd entered to the Contest about a woman trying to free the last dragon in America. But I needed to double down on the premise. Write more than just blog posts. So, I rewrote it from top to bottom.” And here is the new and improved story. United Public Radio & UFO Paranormal Radio www.uprntalkradio.com The Writers of the Future Contest judges include, Tim Powers (author of On Stranger Tides), Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert (Dune prequel series), Robert J. Sawyer (The Oppenheimer Alternative), Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn series, The Stormlight Archive), Larry Niven (Ringworld), Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game), Nnedi Okorafor (Who Fears Death), Hugh Howey (Wool), and Katherine Kurtz (Deryni series) to name a few.

But when the nightly news leads with a diagnosis to explain a tragedy, the fear it creates is very real — and often permanent. Why does the media lead with schizophrenia only when the story involves violence, yet remain silent when it comes to stories of recovery, hope, and humanity? In this hard-hitting episode, host Rachel Star Withers (who lives with schizophrenia) explores the Lead with Fear phenomenon — the dangerous journalistic trend of linking a diagnosis to a crime before the facts are even in — and why schizophrenia seems to have the worst PR team in the world. Robert Maxwell And His Paranoid State Before His Death

In the months and years leading up to his death, Robert Maxwell became increasingly distrustful and paranoid, convinced that those closest to him were plotting behind his back. He had his offices secretly wired so he could eavesdrop on his employees and even his own family members, creating an atmosphere of fear within his empire. Once known as a charismatic and domineering media tycoon, Maxwell's behavior grew erratic—he would lash out at staff, accuse them of betrayal, and micromanage even the smallest details of his companies. His paranoia extended to his financial affairs, where he grew obsessed with hiding the truth about his massive debts and pension fund manipulations, leading him to retreat further into secrecy and denial.By the final months of his life, Maxwell had become almost delusional in his distrust. He isolated himself aboard his yacht, the Lady Ghislaine, surrounded by loyalists and bodyguards while cutting off communication with anyone he didn't fully control. Reports and tapes from that period show a man consumed by suspicion, believing that enemies in government, media, and even within his own business circle were conspiring to bring him down. His death at sea—officially ruled accidental but still clouded in mystery—seemed to encapsulate the final unraveling of a man trapped in his own web of lies, surveillance, and fear.to contact  me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

The Authors Quill todays guest or winners of The L Ron Hubbard writers and illustrators of the Future contest guest Josie Moore Roddy Taylor Karah Richardson Tracy Eire Josie Moore grew up in the valley town of Westfield, Massachusetts with a voice that wouldn't work and a brain filled to bursting. Roddy Taylor is a former high school science teacher, who decided to become a full-time artist and illustrator. He and his wife moved to Ellensburg six years ago after his son was born and fell in love with the place. Since deciding to go full-time with his art, he has developed his previous love for mythology, nature, and fantasy themes. His most recent accolades involve winning Best of Show at the Kittitas County Fair twice. His work has shown often at Gallery One in Ellensburg, including a solo show in the Fall of 2024. It was a fairly short wordcount bio. Find out more about Roddy at,… RoddyTaylorArt.com Karah Richardson was born in 2007, spending much of her childhood moving to and exploring new states across America. She met a variety of people though having prosopagnosia (face blindness) made recognizing them a challenge. Karah loves challenges. Growing up, she had a fascination with studying faces, assuming that she could “learn” how to memorize family and friends by drawing them over and over. This led to a lifelong love of art. She'd blend together a wide variety of separate features and piece them together like a puzzle, relying on others to tell her if it looks “correct.” Due to such an early start on such a potent hobby in her life, she quickly discovered many teachers, family, and friends wanted to encourage her to cultivate this study into a real-life Tracy Eire grew up far to the north in a place called Newfoundland. She has spent most of her life with one foot in the real world and the other somewhere else—maybe on Mercury, maybe in the realm of myth, or ... somewhere near Hobbiton. It's a place where stories breathe, where the old gods whisper, and where women step out of the fog wearing their strength and brilliance plainly. That is the space her art comes from. An oil and charcoal artist with a deep love for narrative painting, Tracy focuses on portraits of women who feel ancient and modern all at once. These are figures who carry storms behind their eyes, but choose the light anyway. She often paints the things she sought—or witnessed—in her youth: courage, grace, grit, and the quiet power of women who refused to disappear, even when maligned. It's no wonder her harpies wear couture. United Public Radio & UFO Paranormal Radio www.uprntalkradio.com

This episode describes Paranoid Personality Disorder including how it's diagnosed, how it develops and how its treated. Most people don't realize how deeply paranoia can shape a person's entire world and how misunderstood this silent struggle really is. In this episode, Dr. Kibby unpacks the complexity of paranoid personality disorder, revealing why so many suffer in silence, feeling unseen and alone. Dr. Kibby dives into real stories, research, and the trauma roots behind paranoia, showing how childhood neglect and trauma can ignite a persistent fear that fuels distrust. She discusses how these traits develop, why they often co-occur with other disorders like borderline or narcissistic personality disorder, and the biological underpinnings (like hyperarousal systems and genetic factors) that drive paranoia.Based on the small literature, Dr. Kibby suggests practical approaches for managing paranoia, emphasizing the power of awareness, small behavioral experiments, and trauma-informed therapies. She shares evidence-based cognitive-behavioral strategies that anyone with paranoid traits can use to challenge their fears, build trust, and slowly open up to connection. This episode highlights that even severe personality traits are malleable and that healing is possible with the right support and understanding. Paranoia isn't just about distrust- it's a protective response rooted in trauma and biology. Understanding this can unlock a path toward more connection, more safety, and less loneliness. 2. Gaius identifies defeatism in the current "emperor's" behavior, citing his attacks on the media, allies, and his own team as evidence of losing control. Germanicus suggests the emperor has entered a paranoid phase where the war has slipped away, leaving only the options of defeat or catastrophe. The military is reportedly leaking information to distance itself from the administration's failing strategy. A comparison is drawn to Nero, who lashed out at his inner circle and supporters, such as Tucker Carlson, as his authority crumbled. Because the emperor lacks a military background, he is perceived as being "at sea" and unable to manage the complex dynamics of the conflict. Without a "Plan B," the speakers predict endless escalationuntil one or both sides collapse, an event that could shake the United States to its core. (2)1900 GREAT NATIONS

#343 - SIDE TWO VERSUS SIDE ONE

Ever since compact discs came out in the mid-1980s, the concept of SIDE 1 and SIDE 2 on an album sort of fell by the wayside. And with this new quantum leap in technology, the entire process of consuming music began to transform.    By the late 80's and early 90's, CD sales began outselling vinyl records and cassette tapes, due in large part to convenience and technological innovation, as vinyl records (albums) were limited to a maximum of 20 minutes or so per side and cassette tapes maxed out at around 30 minutes per side. But prior to compact discs, consuming music was (at a minimum) a two-step process which involved inserting the cassette into your tape deck and pressing play or placing the album on your turntable and dropping the needle to begin your music enjoyment experience.    With the advent of compact discs, the maximum recording space jumped to 74 minutes, far exceeding the limitations of records and tapes, and bonus: you didn't have to flip anything over and repeat the process as all of the album tracks were included on one side (so to speak) as one complete, seamless work that systematically eliminated the technologically imposed intermission which required ejecting the cassette or removing the stylus from the album and flipping it over to SIDE TWO, as a CD version of an album quickly became a singular entity devoid of one side or another and just became one complete work (think Reign In Blood on cassette, where both sides are repeated).   In the case of a near perfect album, sides didn't really matter, but what we've come to notice over the years is that SIDE TWO would sometimes be superior to SIDE ONE. Granted, this is not by any means an exact science nor is it always a guarantee, but many of the finest albums in metal history have a SIDE TWO that is much better than SIDE ONE. So, with that in mind, we invite you to JOIN US as we go through a few of our favorites to determine whether or not there is any validity to the claim that SIDE TWO IS BETTER THAN SIDE ONE.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can't be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast Show Notes: (00:01): “That's how Indian people say ‘windows'…”/ #foodtruck / “Was it a chicken truck?”/ “The mac and cheese had kimchi in it…”/ #seoulman / ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised *** / #DirtyMonkeyBananaPeanutButterWhiskey / “I left my liquid up there…”/ ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY PODCAST!!!*** /  “At this point it's the Ides of March (roughly)…this might be after that…” (NOTE: The Ides of March falls on March 15) / #BewareTheIdesOfMarch / “It's almost 311, y'all…”/ Beach Boat Rotation / #WuTang / “Did you have to say that?”/ “Gentleman Snatch…it's all about the cockney…” / “Just curious…seeing what's adjacent and what's not…” (06:22): ***PATREON US AT patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast *** / “They're gonna get laid and drained, thusly.”/ ***SOCIAL MEDIA US at #metalnerderypodcast on #YouTube #Instagram #Facebook #TikTok and EMAIL US at metalnerdery@gmail.com and VOICEMAIL US AT 980-666-8182!!!*** (“It's very anticlimactic when there's no voicemail…”) (09:10): “I say, I declare!” / #FoghornLeghornASMR / #TheDocket METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS:  SIDE TWO VERSUS SIDE ONE – WHICH IS BETTER?  “We've found several albums where side two was better than side one…this is for the vinyl and cassette folks out there, pre-compact disc and pre-streaming…”/ #VanHalen “Let's look at Women and Children real quick…” / #WaitWhat? #markthetime / “Maybe when they're doing the tracking…they're warming up on side one…”/ “Make every album like a #Nike swoosh…”/ “That is one of the biggest arguments between producers and bands: tracking.”/ “One more Van Halen…” (13:53): #Metallica / #Phenomenomenomenal / “That's an interesting idea…not only a remastering thing but what if they re-tracked?”/ “That makes it the better side…”/ The perfect 10/10 album / “Side 3 is where Side 2 started on the cassette…”/ “Notice how I didn't shit on the mix at all…” (“But you still had to mention it…”) (17:52): #AC/DC / “Ooooh…now it's gonna get ugly…”/ “I'm sorry, that's how they sound, dude…”/ #wokeASMR / “It's not Power Age, it's Powerage…according to them…”/ #markthetime / “I always liked that cover…it's very classic…” (22:14): #BlackSabbath / “Side 2 is more of a vibe and a feel…”/ “Paranoid, I think Side 2 has got it…”/ “And there's that…”/ “No more Sabbath, huh?”/ “It's kind of a different vibe on Side 2…if you can't pick a side, it's kinda everything…”/ “Don't you think the vibe is completely different (from Side A to Side B)?”/ “I think everything else makes up for ‘Am I Going Insane? This episode is for the woman who has ever looked back and said, "I knew it. Why didn't I trust myself?"Sade unpacks why so many women dismiss their own instincts and how that dismissal — not the red flags themselves — leaves them most exposed. Memorizing red flags doesn't protect you. Situational awareness does. When you build that skill, no disguise fools you.Your nervous system collects data. Fear, discomfort, that "off" feeling — those are not signs you are dramatic or paranoid. They are signals. The problem is that women spend decades in training to ignore those signals, and then wonder why they feel anxious, confused, and stuck.Sade also names the two fears that keep women frozen: the fear of being wrong and the fear of being right. Both traps lead to the same outcome — doing nothing while things get worse. The work is the same whether you're dating, married, or navigating divorce. Discernment. Self-leadership. Knowing what a safe relationship looks and feels like. Building your own life and emotional resources. You didn't choose the conditioning that trained you to doubt yourself. But you can choose differently now.Ready to build your situational awareness with real support? Schedule a free consultation with Sade at sadecurry.com/schedule-appointment

Dr. John Gartner joins Joanna Coles to explain why Donald Trump's worsening paranoia, erratic behavior, and visible health problems point to a dangerous mix of malignant narcissism and possible frontotemporal dementia. Drawing on clinical practice and the shift toward observable diagnostic criteria, Gartner argues that Trump's public performances reveal more than enough: the “25th time” fixation, the aspirin theories, the right-side weakness, and the drifting, rambling speeches. The conversation ends with a stark question: What happens when a country is governed by a man whose greatest vulnerability is his own deteriorating mind? Hosted on Acast.
