Thomas is the founder of Tommy Boy and has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since 1981.  He has over 37 years experience in the hip-hop, urban, alternative, dance, rock and gospel music markets.  He founded Dance Music Report in 1978, the preeminent newsletter for DJs for over 15 years. He founded Tommy Boy in 1981 which was one of the original pioneers in the hip hop movement with artists such as Afrika Bambaattaa, De La Soul, Digital Underground, Queen Latifah, Naughty by Nature, House of Pain, and Coolio. He was a founder and partner in the legendary New Music Seminar, the world’s seminal music industry convention through the 80’s. He has re-launched the New Music Seminar in 2009 to introduce a new paradigm for an emerging new music business. Mr. Silverman serves on the board of RIAA, Sound Exchange, American Association of Independent Music (A2IM), Merlin and has served for many years on NAIRD/AFIM board, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Dance Music Hall of Fame, as well as the NARM Manufacturer’s Advisory Board. Tom was the recipient of the 2013 A2iM Lifetime Achievement Award, NARM Independent Spirit Award 2010, NARAS Heroes Award in 2000. He received his bachelors’ degree in Environmental Studies from Colby College and studied Environmental Earth Science at Western Michigan University.

On the show this week is Ms. Gloria Gaynor She was 19 when she signed her first record contract. In 1973, Gloria made history as Billboard gave birth to the Disco Action Charts. "Never Can Say Good-Bye" bowed at #1 on the charts and became the first Dance Song to reach #1 status in dance music. Ever since that time, for more than 30 years, Gloria keeps setting the standard. In March of 2001, her single, "Just Keep Thinkin' About You," topped the Billboard Dance/Club charts at #1, while her international hit "Last Night" with Giorgio Moroder debuted at #1 throughout Europe. In keeping with the theme of #1, Gloria Gaynor was the first to record an album especially for clubs, and the first to do a mega-extended dance medley party mix, releasing 12" dance singles that are now high-end collectors items. On September 19, 2005 Gloria, along with her Hit song "I Will Survive" were inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame during a ceremony that took place in New York City. Francis Nicholls (January 18, 1955 – March 31, 2014), known as Frankie Knuckles, was an American DJ and record producer. Nicholls was born in 1955 in The Bronx, New York; he later moved to Chicago. He played an important role in developing and popularizing house music in Chicago during the 1980s when the genre was in its infancy. Due to his importance in the development of the genre, Knuckles was often known as "The Godfather of House Music." The city of Chicago named a stretch of street and a day after Knuckles in 2004 for this role. His accomplishments earned him a Grammy Award in 1997. Knuckles was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2005 as recognition for his achievements.
