It's like riding a bike, really. Sure, the summer break is too long and too boring (though Borrie has an idea for how to fix that) but it's as though the boys never left the mics. Episode 74 is just as childish and offensive as the 73 that came before it despite a six week break from actual racing. Inside you'll find all the ingredients that make Moto PG the greatest motorcycling podcast on earth including Borrie's poem, Rossi's letter, George's email, We Told You So and more. They're like KFC's eleven secret herbs and spices...except there's not eleven of them, obviously, and they're not herbs and spices. But you get the idea. Anyway, this isn't a written medium so press play and get it in your ears. It's the best decision you'll make today. The Following is a Public Service Announcement: None of this – and we mean none of this, including the yelling, the crying, the cussing, the finger-pointing, the nappy-soiling, the bitch-slapping, and gold medal prosciutto-making – would be possible without the support of our brilliant sponsors. We demand and insist you support them because they support us. https://www.sonicstadium.org/2022/07/mecha-knuckles-sigma-and-other-idw-sonic-panel-reveals-from-sdcc-2022/ "It's still San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, and while the guy in the Sonic mascot suit couldn't make it to the IDW Sonic panel, our own Shigs could, and he brought back a few tidbits from upcoming issues and the series Q&A. Representing IDW were Daniel Barnes (writer), Adam Bryce Thomas (artist), Michael Cisneros (licensing), Gigi Dutreix (artist/writer), and David Mariotte (editor/writer). The crew thanked fans for helping them make it to the landmark Issue 50, and teased that the next several issues will deal with the fallout from the events of 50, starting with the cast escaping Eggman's city. Introducing the upcoming Scrapnik Island series, the panel offered concept art for the battered bots Mecha Knuckles and Sigma. The slightly diminutive Mecha Knuckles acts as “Guardian” of the island (like his fuzzy counterpart). He wields a mace, Adventure 1 and 2's shovel claw, and Knuckles' three-star hat from the anime OVA. Sigma was introduced as a green E-Series robot in the style of Gamma and his “brothers.” Worse for wear with an Eggbot arm and flat caster for his right foot, he still towers at his full height over both Sonic and Dr. Eggman. The panelists also gave a reminder that the Tails 30th Anniversary special is in the works, and includes some villains from Tails' classic game history (previously revealed to include Wendy Witchcart from Tails Sky Patrol). They showed off some of the previously shared cover art for this special, the upcoming 2022 annual, and issues 51 and 52: The Q&A focused on a handful of topics, and unsurprisingly, the series' original characters were on everyone's mind. Whisper will be returning in the next series arc, and they're continuing to discuss story plans for her and Tangle next year. Surge and Kit, the fakers we found in Imposter Syndrome and Issue 50, were originally planned for early in the series, but SEGA preferred not to introduce that many new characters that quickly, which ultimately gave Dr. Starline more time to develop as a character. Instead, the panel noted that the Metal Virus Arc gave them an opportunity to see exactly how far they could push the core Sonic cast emotionally, something that really endeared Cream with Barnes. For those curious about the effort needed to put together an IDW issues (and why we get more “we have notes” situations than other previous Sonic comics), the panel explained that all issues have to go through Sonic Team, meaning that they also have to be translated into Japanese as well. It's roughly a three month process for each issue. Prior to Q&A, Cisneros also noted that the direction of the comic is intended to be welcoming to new fans “at any time without 30 years of canon to go through.” Finally, outside of the panel, the Comic art team worked on putting together a sweet Sonic mural featuring members of the game and comic cast: While this panel didn't quite give us a vision of the comic's future after the big 50 milestone, it's exciting to see more ways for the games' extended cast to work back into stories in unique ways. The 2022 annual is expected to launch next month, with Scrapnik Island to follow in October." Starting as a phenom with a contending Bruins team, Janney was traded to a swashbuckling St. Louis team for actual superstar Adam Oates. An attempt to make him compensation for yet another free agency splash resulted in more trades and worn out welcomes until he finally washed ashore on Long Island thanks to the man who remembered his potential-filled younger days. As Jerry was to George and Elaine in Seinfeld, so Freido is to Boris and Tug on Moto PG. He is the glue that bonds the whole thing together. His presence elevates the entire operation, lifting it to a product that exceeds the sum of its parts. As much as they missed the little fella last week they're equally happy to have him back for episode 71 and he doesn't disappoint. Like Santa, Freido comes bearing gifts of gossip and news from the paddock, some of which he even shares on the show (though the good stuff is in the Patreon only episode). Mike and Dan are joined by friend and longtime Islanders fan Eric Needell to talk about Chris Simon, a tough guy who packed a lot into his short time on Long Island. After a big trade, one Stanley Cup and about a million fights, Simon signed with the Islanders thanks to coach Ted Nolan, with whom he shared a special relationship. Although his big penalty minute (and outlier scoring) seasons were behind him, Simon made himself into a valuable player on a team loaded with mercenaries. But two long, shameful suspensions within a few months of each other brought his NHL career to an unceremonious close, and he faced many difficulties in his off-ice life. The guys talk about the rare highlights and sobering lowlights of a player who meant a lot to Islanders fans for a very brief period of time. Eric also tells his tale of getting to ask GM Garth Snow just how Chris Simon, of all people, ended up as a top line winger. The answer will not shock you. When the racing is boring (like it was on Sunday) you'd probably think the podcast will be uninteresting, too. But that would be ridiculous because the greatest motorcycling podcast on earth isn't so much MotoGP news as MotoGP Neighbours. Sure, there are men riding motorcycles at stupid fast speeds but the truth is it's just a giant soap opera for grown men. And we at Moto PG are totally here for it. This week Freido is on the ground in Assen (international incident to come, no doubt), Borrie has his rhyme on and Tug is directing traffic like the Munted One captaining the Aprilia ship. But don't take our word for it, hit the play button and get it in your ears now. Nick tells the tale of a memorable run-in he had with a young Torres that all but guaranteed he'd never forget the winger' drafting and uneventful first two seasons on The Island. They talk about his goal-free 31 games in blue-and-orange and their near universal excitement that he had been traded for defenseman Janne Niinimaa, even as Torres went on to produce for Edmonton. They marvel at two other forgotten Torres stints with other teams before diving into his tumultuous time as one of the NHL's most hated players. Along the way, Nick drops more stories about running into Islanders in various dining establishments around Long Island, including one generous prospect who spent some of his meager salary to buy a young Nick a bagel. Usually in life we celebrate the high achievers. The ones who do the things we ourselves could not. Think Federer, Woods, Rossi and - yes - even Marquez. But every now and then the Lord gifts us an individual so glorious in their stupidity, so munted in their lack of ability, so genuinely and universally unlikeable that we must stop. And reflect. And then applaud and cheer the staggering lack of talent and self awareness, and revel in their failures. In our midst, in 2022, such a character exists but we shall not speak his name because, as Tug so eloquently points out, there is no need. This sh!t does indeed write itself. (Except the poem.
