All I want to do is talk about Madonna

Kenny and Mark welcome Billboard Magazine's Keith Caulfield (co-host of the Billboard Pop Shop podcast) to discuss the vibrant - yet troublesome - first song and lead single from Rebel Heart. Topics include THE LEAK and technology foibles, demos on hard drives, launching a “leak lead” hotline, multiple album versions (and covers), Sebastien Tellier, unending teasers, unusual suspects, the power of pivoting and musical chaos, Jonathan Ross, Prince, the endless curiosity of Diplo, Mozella, Sky Ferreira,“Where are the stems?”, bringing in the gospel choir at the Grammy Awards, THE FALL (or “The Yank”) at the Brit Awards, the Nietzsche quote, Megan Lawson, Danny Tull, JACK, diamond encrusted bull horns and fussy matadors, and the subtle nods to nostalgia. Plus, Kenny converses with Chat GPT and Keith helps Madonna find her light and reminds her of “Rescue Me”! Mark, Kenny, and Keith trades Liz Rosenberg “The Validator” stories, Guy Oseary meet-ups, and podcast best-practices and music industry dish. AND in 2015, Mark and Kenny meet … for the very first time. Love's gonna lift us up!Please join us on the Patreon for our “shadow season” - discussing the lost demo tracks from the Rebel Heart sessions - in conversation with this season. It's messy and magical, y'all - just like REBEL HEART. XO

When it comes to such simple things as communication, networking, and even relationships, there are three basic skills you need to remember. You need to build upon the relationship. You also need to maintain them, and work towards them growing. Joining us in the studio is music industry veteran Lyn Stevens who is an award winning photographer, who combines her love of photography with her passion for music. From that, she has learned the ability to network among industry peers, and shares her insight with our listeners. While on the subject, we also discuss documenting your career with photography, and how important it is in the bigger picture. Since her days as a producer at WIBA-FM and Morning DJ & Country Music Director WDUX in Wisconsin, Lyn has always had the bug to work in the music industry. Working in radio provided Lyn the opportunity to meet and interview legendary performers such as Merle Haggard, Ray Price, Charlie Daniels, Loretta Lynn, and The Kentucky Headhunters among many others. After moving to Nashville in 2009, her photography "hobby" started catching the eye of local performers. In 2012, the door was opened as Lyn was honored to have 3 of her photos on display as part of the Cameras and Community in Action Project at The Frist Center for The Visual Arts. Her work went on to be featured in Country Weekly, Billboard Magazine and the Nashville Music Guide. In late 2014, she was asked by country legends, Little Texas, to shoot the photos for their album, "Young for A Long Time," which garnered her the award for "Best Visual Art" at the 2015 Nashville Independent Music Awards. She added the title, “International Photographer” to her resume, after documenting a Blues/Rock tour to Australia in 2016 and another tour to Iceland in 2018. Her work has since been seen on television in Australia and in newspapers and magazines throughout Europe. She approaches photography as a documentarian, based off the strong belief that she is documenting future history, in the present-day moment. Neglect and abandonment, physical, emotional, and verbal abuse, narcissistic parents and a host of malcontents to add flavor and color to the toxic mix that was my childhood.Yet light always shines through, right? I channeled my talents, hopes and ambition into writing about music and became a rock journalist as a teenager. I toured with Kiss on a press junket at 19 in Japan. That was just the beginning! Please CELEBRATE with me today! My book is now available and I'm dancing around my apartment with a bottle of bubbly. Get your rock ‘n' roll on!"Elise Krentzel's fast paced memoir, Under My Skin has earned #1 new release in these categories: Biographies of Rock Bands, Music Business, Rock, Composers & Musicians, and Jewish life. She shares how she took charge of the tumultuous 1970s by making a name for herself as a rock journalist when still a teenager. As a kid, she was encouraged by her parents to sing, play music, and write, but she wasn't allowed to be “herself.” Alienated, she hid her heart and learned to become a stranger in her own skin as the torment of early childhood taught her to mistrust everyone, especially herself. She's a multiglot: author, ghostwriter, mentor, public speaker, and communications entrepreneur who has lived in five countries for over twenty-five years. Starting in Japan from 1977 to 1984, she owned a talent and booking agency, introduced punk rock, was a DJ and, music journalist. As Tokyo Bureau Chief for Billboard Magazine, Elise introduced the Sony Walkman and Laserdisc technology to a western audience during her stint.© 2024 All Rights Reserved© 2024 Building Abundant Success!!Join Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy:  https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

Music has been a feature of American culture wars since at least the time of Elvis Presley's gyrating dance moves on The Ed Sullivan show in 1956. But amidst all the moral panics about hip-shaking and backmasking, there is a legitimate and fascinating question about the role and influence that popular music plays on human behavior and on society more broadly.  Today, we are publishing the first episode in our breakdown of the debate around Rap on Trial and what it says (and misses) about the role of music in culture. We begin in 1985 with Tipper Gore's fight against Prince and the obscenity of 80's rock music, then dive deep into the rapper Young Thug's current RICO case in Atlanta Georgia and other cases where music is being brought into criminal trials. Our goal, as always, is to try and understand this story and everyone involved in the best faith possible. Which, yes, means we are going to steel-man Tipper Gore, Young Thug and T.I. all in the same story. He discusses the difference between the guitar and Spanish guitar, and how even though they all may have the same six strings, and the same tuning, they all offer something different. He shares his stories of working with other musicians and how storytelling comes out of each piece, whether working alone or collaborating with others. Tune in and close your eyes to enjoy the piece Recuerdos de la Alhambra (Memories of Alhambra in English) by the Spanish composer Franciso Tarrega at the end of the episode.  IN THIS EPISODE: [2:45] What does Pablo mean by the statement “music and Spanish guitar is the perfect vehicle for storytelling?” [5:25] Is there a difference between a guitar and a Spanish guitar? [7:26] Does Pablo always have the opportunity to explore storytelling even when collaborating and playing with other artists? [10:05] How is Pablo providing children with the opportunity to explore the magic of music? [13:07] Pablo gives an example of what he means by storytelling through music.  [16:00] Close your eyes and enjoy hearing the piece Recuerdos de la Alhambra by the Spanish composer Franciso Tarrega.  [19:17] Enjoy another piece played by Pablo titled Asturias (Leyenda) KEY TAKEAWAYS: [3:25] Music is an experience that we cannot touch, we cannot see, but we feel, and those are the experiences in life that are most transcendental, most profound to us.  [5:25] While all guitars have six strings and the same tuning, each instrument is related to a different kind of music because they have different features.  [15:07] Music is a way for people to come together and share stories, share about life, and connect on a deep level that connects to our hearts.   Fiction Credits: First song: Recuerdos de la Alhambra by the Spanish composer Franciso Tarrega Second song: Asturias (Leyenda) - Isaac Albéniz.
