Easter Sunday Service (April 20) Groveport UMC, Groveport Ohio To support the ministry of the church, please click here: https://groveportumc.org/give/ OPENING SONG: Chancel Choir: “He Won the Fight” WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS OPENING PRAYER: L: Christ is risen! P: We walked the valleys and saw the people crying in need. Jesus reached out to them. He did not criticize or diminish their needs. He touched their lives and they were never the same. The love that flowed through him to them was God's healing love. L: Christ is risen! P: We sat at table in the Upper Room as Jesus told of his death and we wanted to discount his words. How could he die? We did not want to believe it. It was easier to proclaim with bravado our faith than to listen to his words. L: Christ is risen! P: We waited in the Garden of Sorrows while he prayed and watched in horror as he was betrayed with a kiss. We followed at a distance and denied, with Peter, ever knowing who he was. We were in the crowd that clamored for Barabbas' release and turned our backs as Pilate washed his hands of the crime. L: Christ is risen! P: We followed him to the hill and cringed as they nailed him to the Cross. We heard his words of forgiveness and love from the cross and felt the ground tremble as the sky darkened and he gave up his life, into his father's hands. L: Christ is risen! P: We ran from the empty tomb today, with the incredible news that He is Risen! He was not captured by death, but is risen from the dead, just as he said he would be. We come with the joy in our hearts to this day. As the flowers in our worship area burst with color, so we burst with the absolute joyous news CHRIST IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED! ALLELUIA. AMEN. PRELUDE & LIGHTING OF THE ALTAR CANDLES: “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” *HYMN “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” #302 CALL TO WORSHIP: L: Run from fear and darkness! Hope is on the move! P: Run to tell the world, Christ is risen! L: Do not be afraid. Jesus has conquered death! P: We can proclaim with great confidence that God's love rules. L: Christ is risen! P: CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED! ALL: AMEN HYMN “Up From the Grave He Arose” #322 PRAYER OF CONFESSION: We have to admit it, Lord, that we had our doubts. We have heard the Resurrection story and for so many years it has remained just a nice story. But this time it is different. This time we have walked the path with Christ. We have journeyed through the wilderness and valleys, to the mountaintops to the courtyard, the garden and the cross. Now you bring us to the empty tomb and to the joyous news of the truth of Christ. Forgive us when we so easily doubt the truth of his resurrection. Forgive us when we feel we have to have absolute proof of everything. Your love in Jesus Christ is all the proof we need. You conquered death and sin, you brought us to new life. We praise your holy name and sing our unending song of hope and thanksgiving. Christ the Lord is risen today. Alleluia. AMEN. WORDS OF ASSURANCE: FIRST SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Corinthians 15:19-26 OUR TIME OF PRAYER (During our time of prayer, the altar rail is open for all who wish to come forward.) Islington Baptist is a church for the Islington and wider Newcastle community sharing the life-changing message of Jesus. Our sermons / Bible teaching is a central part of our gatherings.John 201:301 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!”3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus' head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don't know where they have put him.” 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'”18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[b] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Have you failed God so badly that you feel He can't use you? Peter felt that way when he denied Jesus before the Lord's death. Yet when Jesus rose from the dead, He singled Peter out to tell him, "I'm not done with you." God's not done with you either! We have a risen Lord and Savior, and that means no matter how we've neglected or denied Him, Jesus is always ready to free us from depression, addiction, or oppression. We can rejoice this Easter in that reality! Mark 16:1-8
Sun., April 20Easter SundayTree of Lifewith Josh ReevesJesus's story is extraordinary, and it is also the most relatable. Like Jesus, each of us is born of an unseen Spirit called to bring our divinely inspired gifts to the world. Each of us experiences rejection and forgiveness. And all of us who search for a light amid turmoil, experience being reborn in awareness of a Holy Spirit. This Easter, we explore the spiritual life of Christ and all of us through the symbol of the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life that symbolizes what stands between us and the Infinite—roots and wings, heaven and Earth, the temporal and the eternal.

Welcome The Easter story doesn't stop at Good Friday -Jesus died for the forgiveness of sin; but he also rose again three days later! Death could not hold Jesus. In his resurrection, God has begun to undo the evil and sadness of this world. Jesus now reigns as the risen King of kings, and he freely offers all people a new and eternal life with him. Our time together this morning will be a relaxed service celebrating this great news. “…then the saying that is written will come true.” Death has been swallowed up in victory,” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law, But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:54-57 Order of Service Welcome Song: Christ the Lord is Risen Today Song: King of Kings Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:1-5 Talk: The Resurrection I central Song: He Died Upon the Cross Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:17-22 Talk: The Resurrection is certain Song: There is One Gospel Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:51-57 Talk: The Resurrection changes us Prayer: Song: Christ Our Hope in Life and Death

Cory Adrian shares about the Resurrection Story
The resurrection of Jesus Christ represents His ultimate victory over death and marks a transformative moment in human history. Through His post-resurrection appearances, Jesus demonstrated His authority over all creation and provided hope to those struggling with doubt, fear, and grief. His resurrection wasn't just a historical event, but continues to impact believers today by offering victory over despair, death, confusion, and past failures. The same power that raised Christ from the dead now lives within believers through the Holy Spirit, enabling them to overcome life's challenges.
Introduction The Resurrection of Jesus from the dead really happened (v1-11). The Resurrection gives meaning to our faith in Jesus (v12-19). The Resurrection is the start of something greater to come (v20-33). Conclusion We can live today in light of our future resurrected glory with Jesus.
On this Easter Sunday, Pastor Scott gives a message on the hope we find in the resurrection of Jesus.
