We've got a powerhouse of a panel with us today. Zakiya Thomas is President and CEO of the ERA Coalition. Jessica Neuwirth is a board member of the ERA Coalition. Carol Jenkins is Chair of the Fund for Women's Equality, and Sophia Armen is the co-founder and Co-director of Feminist Front.

Ever since women won the right to vote in 1920, women leaders and their allies have sought to pass an Equal Rights Amendment to drive total equality and justice for women into the U.S. Constitution. It did pass in 1972, but fell three states short of ratification. Today's next wave of the women's movement might finally make the ERA a reality. Why is Constitutional protection so crucial? Join leading advocates Joan Blades (MomsRising co-founder), attorney Kimberle Crenshaw and Jessica Neuwirth (ERA Coalition President) to learn the true story of what's at stake and how life would be different and better for women and men. To learn more about Kimberle Crenshaw's work, visit the African American Policy Forum.  You can follow Joan Blades work at MomsRising, and Living Room Conversations. Follow the progress Jessica Neuwirth and others are making with the ERA Coalition. See related media in our Green New Deal Media Collection. What exactly is the Equal Rights Amendment, and why is it important? Well, this episode is going to answer that question! It may come as a shock that the United States does not yet include equal protection for women in its constitution. Though the US has long been purported to be one of the leaders in gender equality, it is actually one of only 28 countries in the world without women included it its constitution, and ranks 51 in gender parity after it's neighbors Canada and Mexico. The ERA is a constitutional amendment that would explicitly bar the government from any form of discrimination on the basis of sex. The Woman Beings sit down with repeat guest Meghan Tschanz (host of the faith and feminism podcast, author of Women Rising) and Allyson McKinney-Timm, a human rights lawyer, advocate, and founder of Justice Revival.
