Fighting Words. This year we look at energy arguments, battles and debates: the impact of data centers on power prices, the cost of solar plus storage as baseload power, the “primary energy fallacy” that ignores waste heat, the true cost of small modular reactors, Germany's decision to shut down nuclear, China's dominance of renewable supply chains, solid oxide fuel cells as turbine alternatives, the materiality of demand response, staffing cuts at the EIA, the hype around geothermal and geologic hydrogen, the misplaced fascination with small country energy transitions, satellite vs factor-based oil & gas basin methane emissions, the mostly profitless EV industry, xAI mobile gas plant permits, negligible progress on carbon capture and renewable fuels, and the unfavorable economics of charging my Jeep Wrangler hybrid. Groove metal Texans, Upon a Burning Body, are back with their brand-new album, ‘Blood of the Bull'. Released on December 5th, 2025. On the one hand, Upon a Burning Body keep it really simple here. Delivering a bevy of riff-based groove-infused metal with slamming tendencies. Whereas on the other hand, this is up there as one of their most experimental releases to date. Finding the band exploring metalcore territories and delivering poppier choruses. It's a fascinating listen, thirty-odd minutes of varied, but familiar, metal that has plenty of banging moments, with just the occasional misstep here and there. Read the full review here: https://www.gbhbl.com/album-review-upon-a-burning-body-blood-of-the-bull-self-released/ We spoke to vocalist Danny Leal about the new album and how Upon A Burning Body are in a much better place now they have gone independent. Street Preacher Segment – Summary A group of aggressive street preachers (the type who stand on milk crates with bullhorns and large signs showing aborted fetuses) regularly show up at public events and venues around the area — the Brandon Amphitheater during concerts, restaurant patios in Fondren, etc. — and scream at patrons, calling women whores, Jezebels, drunkards, and telling everyone they're going to hell. After repeated incidents (including at least one preacher getting punched in the face), the city of Brandon passed an ordinance requiring them to preach from a designated protest zone away from the amphitheater entrance. The preachers refused, returned to the entrance, got arrested, and sued, claiming the ordinance violates their First Amendment free-speech and religious-liberty rights. The case worked its way up and is now headed to the U.S. Supreme Court. Host's take (very clearly stated):He is 100% against these preachers and 100% supports the city's restriction. “This is not legitimate evangelism; this is theater kids putting on a show trying to provoke people into hitting them so they can sue and play victim.” He compares it to “First Amendment auditors” — attention-seeking grifters, not sincere believers. Calls what they scream “fighting words” that violate personal space and are designed to start physical confrontations. “You have the absolute right to your free speech, but you do not have the right to scream it two feet from my family's face while we're trying to eat dinner or enjoy a concert.” Points out that moving them across the street or to a designated zone (the same way the amphitheater bans firearms for everyone) is a perfectly legal time/place/manner restriction, not censorship. Says the behavior makes Christians and Christianity look terrible and drives people away from faith rather than bringing anyone closer to God. “Nobody has ever walked past these guys getting called a whore and thought, ‘You know what? They're right. I'm skipping the concert and going to church Sunday.' Not one single person.” He acknowledged he would fully support the same preachers protesting outside abortion clinics, big-box stores pushing transgender products to kids, or even adult venues doing genuinely harmful things — but screaming insults at random families at a country-music concert or on a restaurant patio crosses the line into pure harassment, not ministry. Bottom line from the host: Their free-speech rights are not being violated; they just lost the right to do it right at the entrance and start fights. He hopes SCOTUS upholds the ordinance.

Ellie Holcomb joins Ginny to trace a clear line from her childhood on the Little Harpeth River to the music, books, and family life she's building today. She shares how stepping off the tour bus to raise a newborn opened a new creative path—writing Scripture into song during a friend's battle with depression, which grew into her devotional Fighting Words, a new record (Far Country), and children's books that invite families to notice what creation is already saying. Together they explore themes parents will recognize: finding hope in hard seasons, letting kids meet the world outside, and remembering what's true when life feels uncertain. Ellie talks about the images that keep her steady—salt flats reflecting the sky, constellations overhead, a river in winter—and why sometimes you “go dark to see.” It's a grounded, practical conversation about faith, nature, and raising kids who know they belong. If you've ever wondered who really makes laws in this country or what happens when protest and free speech collide, stick around. Let's look at President Trump's executive order on flag burning. There's a lot of chatter out there about what an executive order actually is, what power the president really has, and how the Constitution fits into all this—and honestly, a lot of people are getting it wrong. So, I'm here to clear things up. I'll break down exactly what Trump is trying to do with this order, why it's not quite what some people think, and what the law actually says about flag burning (hint: we're talking about First Amendment rights and the Supreme Court's big decision in Texas v. Johnson). Additionally, I'll share a great quote from Justice Scalia and discuss why our right to criticize the government—even in contentious ways—matters so much. Here's the real story, beyond the barstool chatter and media soundbites:Executive Orders Aren't LawsThe President can issue executive orders to guide administrative agencies, but they can't make new laws—that power comes from Congress. The Limits of Presidential PowerExecutive actions can't override the Constitution. Flag burning, for example, is considered symbolic speech protected by the First Amendment (see: Texas v. Johnson, 1989).Fighting Words & Incitement MatterTrump's directive targeted flag burning only if it “incites violence”—a narrow exception that still faces tough constitutional scrutiny and likely doesn't change much in practice.Submit your questions to www.lawyertalkpodcast.com.Recorded at Channel 511.Stephen E. In this episode of Passing Judgment, we examine the legal controversy over James Comey's deleted “8647” social media post and the ensuing federal investigation. Host Jessica Levinson analyzes whether Comey's message amounted to an unlawful threat against former president Trump or was simply protected political speech. She guides listeners through the legal standards for incitement, fighting words, and true threats, concluding that the greater threat may be government efforts to silence political opponents. Here are three key takeaways you don't want to miss:James Comey's Social Media Post: Jessica Levinson introduces the controversy surrounding former FBI director James Comey, who is under federal investigation for a now-deleted social media post featuring shells arranged as "8647" on the beach. The crux of the issue is whether this was a coded call to "get rid of" (86) President Trump, who is both the 45th and 47th president, or simply a form of political commentary. The Legal Question: Free Speech vs. True Threats: Levinson dives into the central legal dilemma: Was Comey advocating violence, or exercising his First Amendment right to political speech? She explains the importance of distinguishing between punishable incitement or threats and protected political advocacy.Historical and Contextual Perspective: The episode puts this controversy in a broader context, mentioning similar uses of "86" by other politicians, notably Matt Gaetz, without triggering federal investigations. Levinson argues that context matters—whether the intent is referencing a metaphorical political ouster or a literal threat.Follow Our Host: @LevinsonJessica
DOING LIFE: Daily Devotions For Finding Peace in Stressful Times
"No one comes to the Father except through Me." Jesus (John 14:6)
Don't we all love unsolicited advice? No?! Obviously, I jest. Of course we don't, especially when fighting for your life. In this relatively brief podcast I discuss my interaction with such unsolicited benevolence (as the giver surely must feel that's what it is). In short, Sweet Brown said it best: Ain't nobody got time for that!
This week the U.S. Space Force let a linguistic genie out of the bottle. The newest service branch published a 22-page guide for planners called “Space Warfighting”, that ditches soft elocution and takes up words like “destroy”, “terrestrial strike”, and “counterattack”. What does this mean for culture; training and education; research, development, testing and evaluation (RDT&E); acquisition; and the Space Force's place in the Joint Force? In addition to a roundtable discussion with Lt. Gen. Shawn Bratton, Deputy Chief of Space Operations, Strategy, Plans, Programs and Requirements, Laura Winter speaks with Charles Galbreath, Senior Resident Fellow for Space Studies at the Mitchell Institute's Spacepower Advantage Center of Excellence.
Prime Minister Mark Carney says the U.S. is no longer a reliable partner for Canada. And he says Canada will respond next week, when new tariffs are supposed to take effect. Carney says he still hasn't spoken to President Donald Trump, but expects to have a call within the next few days. And he says he has a strategy to save Canadian industries – that doesn't rely on U.S. markets. And: The tariffs are shifting the focus on the campaign trail. Party leaders have stepped forward to show their support for workers, and their anger at Trump's actions. Also: Another jump in measles cases in Ontario. The province added 102 new cases in the past week. That means more than 570 confirmed and suspected cases since the outbreak began in October.Plus: Auto workers plan for uncertainty, ICE agents arrest student protesters, and more.

Pastor Andre Osborne’s sermon, *Those Are Fighting Words*, from 1 Samuel 17:41-47, focused on the power of faith-filled declarations in the face of adversity. He highlighted how David’s bold words to Goliath reflected his unwavering trust in God’s strength rather than his own. The message reminded listeners that spiritual battles are won not just with actions, but with the confidence and authority of God’s word.
Many organizations rely on small, overburdened marketing and communications teams, expecting them to do it all and inadvertently setting them up to fail. In this episode, Jen and Karen challenge the traditional hiring model and explore why a fractional or agency-based strategy could be a smarter, more cost-effective solution. Tune in as we break it down: why the “comms department of one” is never a magic fix; why adding another full-time hire isn't always the answer; and how leveraging agency expertise can provide more value, creativity, and strategic support. From avoiding burnout to accessing top-tier talent across multiple disciplines, we offer a fresh perspective on rethinking capacity and maximizing marketing impact.
Pastor Charlie Hughes delivers a powerful message on standing firm when the enemy attacks. Don't take the first offer, God has something greater for you!
