Learn how members of SHAPE America’s current Board of Directors got to where they are today, why they continue to give back to the profession, and why they believe SHAPE America is so important to the overall advancement of health and physical education. This podcast episode includes interviews with the following SHAPE America board members: *Jackie Lund (president) — Jackie is a professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health at Georgia State University. Prior to teaching at the university level, she taught public school for 16 years. She served on the committee that developed the National Content Standards for Physical Education in 1995 and was president of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). In 2012, she was inducted into the NASPE Hall of Fame. * Fran Cleland (president-elect) — Fran is a professor in the Department of Kinesiology at West Chester University (WCU). She has been teaching at WCU for 21 years and is also the assistant chair of the Health and Physical Education Teacher Certification Division. Prior to teaching at the college level, she taught K-12 health and physical education in Indiana, Virginia and Oregon. *Collin Brooks — Collin is a National Board Certified elementary physical educator in Bend, OR. Since the start of his teaching career in 2007, he has received the NASPE STARS Award for Physical Education Program Excellence and served on the SHAPE America Northwest District Leadership Council as chair of Professional Development. *Terri Drain — Terri’s extensive teaching and coaching experience has spanned multiple decades and has taken her from rural and urban communities in British Colombia, Canada, to the Pleasanton Unified School District in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was the 2007 CAHPERD Elementary Teacher of the Year and 2008 Southwest District Elementary Teacher of the Year. *Artie Kamiya — Artie is a former North Carolina elementary physical educator, state director of health & physical education at the NC Department of Public Instruction, and senior administrator for K-12 health & physical education at Wake County Schools in North Carolina. He is very active on social media, advocating for the health and physical education profession. *Judy LoBianco — Judy is the supervisor of health, physical education and nursing services for South Orange-Maplewood School District. She has taught all levels of physical education and presented numerous times at state, district and national conferences. Judy is a past president of SHAPE America Eastern District and New Jersey AHPERD. She also serves SHAPE America as a Physical Activity Leader (PAL) trainer.
