THE RECYCLE PODCAST IS BACK.This week, the fellas take a trip back to 2014 to watch the 0-2 Iowa State Cyclones take on Iowa at Kinnick Stadium. Being blunt, the game is very boring outside of the last play, but the guys find a way to make it fun. With the usual segments, they dig into a discussion about Kyle Kempt vs Sam B. Richardson and talk about how Richardson can throw a football 90 miles per hour. As you can expect with an Iowa episode, Ryan gets heated and rants about how easy of a schedule Iowa had while Jake shares an experience of getting yelled at by a Karen when he was 13. ALSO SEAN IS 6’7!!!Huge thanks to Es Tas Bar & Grill for sponsoring the Wide Right Natty Lite Podcast Network!
First off, we talked about the tragic death of Cyclone women's golfer Celia Barquin Arozamena. On Saturday at the football game, Arozamena will be honored as the Cyclone Women's Athlete of the Year and with a moment of silence. If you're attending the game, PLEASE WEAR GOLD. Gold was Celia's favorite color, and we'd like to honor her in any way we can. We also discussed last week's contest against Oklahoma. We touched on a few of the things we saw that changed the outcome of the game, who we came away most impressed with, and where the largest improvements showed. Is Zeb the right choice to take snaps even after Kyle Kempt is cleared to return? What might the offense look like going forward, especially in the running game? What was up with those short kickoffs? Even Cole, our resident special teams expert, isn't sure what the plan was behind them. Last weekend, the Browns, Vikings, and Rams all lost chances at wins due to missed field goals. All three kickers have since lost their jobs. Cole talks about the mental and technical components that go along with making those late field goals, including the technical issues that seemed to cause the Viking's Carlon to push consecutive field goals wide right. Without a doubt kickers are the position most commonly attacked on social media after a poor performance. What does online abuse do to the pyschological state of the kicker?
This podcast starts off with a discussion about OU’s running back room in the wake of Rodney Anderson’s injury. After that, we discuss Iowa State’s injury situation, including quarterback Kyle Kempt and backup QB Zeb Noland. We also talk about Cyclones’ star running back David Montgomery and the challenges he could give the Sooners this weekend. From there, we go through OU’s improved special teams unit and how that success could translate both on the road and vs a conference team for the first time this season. We finish the episode with our picks for the week and a couple more predictions on the Big 12 landscape.
We took a lot of Amani Jones questions on today’s edition of the #oniowapod. We took quite a few questions about Iowa’s passing game. Well, week 1 is over and now it’s Iowa State. The elevation changes significantly this weekend, with the Cyclones bringing running back David Montgomery, quarterback Kyle Kempt and one of the Big 12’s best defenses from 2017. The earthquake machine isn’t just on now. It’s a world shaker this week in Kinnick. Join The Gazette’s Marc Morehouse and The Athletic’s Scott Dochterman as they answer your Twitter questions and deliver the Penkse Truck Rental's "Playing With Confidence." The Hawkeyes play host to the Cyclones at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday. The game kicks off at 4:05 p.m. and is on Fox.
Ken and Trent begin the hour talking Iowa State football, Kyle Kempt and what could go wrong for Iowa State. Then Mitch Holthus stops in for his daily conversation on the Chiefs and new slot cornerback Kendall Fuller.
