It's 8:00 AM and...there's a new Winning is Hard podcast. Oh, and OU sucks! Wescott Eberts and Cameron Parker get you prepared for the Red River Showdown with a quick discussion on the Sooners and the Longhorns. We open the podcast with Lincoln Riley's dominance over Tom Herman and how the Texas - Oklahoma game will create Steve Sarkisian's own narrative, win or lose on Saturday. Then we discuss Oklahoma's offensive problems, but also how their defense can be a separate problem for the Texas offense (5:00) before getting into the keys of the game (10:00) including who has the edge in the battle of the trenches (13:00), and how Alex Grinch will try and stop Bijan Robinson (16:00). We also play “Buy or Sell” with Wescott (19:30) discussing if Bijan is the best RB in the country, is Texas now the favorite in the Big 12, do the Longhorns HAVE to win on Saturday, is the defense becoming a problem, and will we get another one-score game? Finally, we wrap up with talk on the Longhorns' slow starts against Oklahoma over the past few games (27:00) and why Bijan (you better sit down for this) will be the key to the game (28:30). Much appreciation to:saxtoninsurance.com & Cosmic Coffee + Beer GardenTre Watson was a graduate transfer running back for the Texas Longhorns for the 2018 Sugar Bowl championship season.Watson, a Cali native completed his undergraduate work at Cal-Berkley. The shifty and fast running back dealt with multiple injuries while at Cal and wore jersey #5 because he was inspired by USC's Reggie BushDuring his one season at Texas, Watson produced 786 yards rushing and scored 3 rushing touchdowns. Not to mention 91-yards rushing during that upset win over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.Watson is a cerebral, high energy, motivating, and vocal guy who quickly earned the respect of his offensive teammates at Texas. But, his guys on defense, not so much. hahaBack to the vocal piece, Tre speaks his mind and delivers soundbite gold and is a quote machine. In fact, he voiced his opinion on the ending of the Tom Herman era at Texas and the excitement about UT leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.Watson is currently a youth U 13-year-old football team which is playing for a championship & a trainer.Be sure to give him follow on Instagram: tre1watson and on Twitter: @tre1watsonA great follow.Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/StoriesManCave)

On the mid-week episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 managing editor Taylor Estes and columnist Chip Brown weigh in on the upcoming Big 12 football season, which once again features Oklahoma leading the charge in the conference in preseason media rankings. A new podcast is coming. Buckeye Talk isn't going anywhere, but starting in July, we're launching a new national podcast. It's called the College Football Playoff Show with Doug Lesmerises, and I'll be joined by one of the smartest, most entertaining young football writers in the country as Shehan Jeyararah will be the co-host. We'll be coming at you every Tuesday and Wednesday starting July 6. The main podcast each week will focus on the four annual playoff contenders -- Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma -- and any teams that we decide are worthy of joining them in the discussion. Each week in the preseason we'll vote on a team to add to the mix -- should Texas A&M or Cincinnati or Iowa State or Oregon or USC or Wisconsin or Penn State or Georgia be added to the playoff group? And once the season starts, we'll kick out a team each week. You need to earn the right for us to discuss you.For the teams in the mix, each week Shehan and I will discuss those teams in context and draft something about them. Which playoff contender has the best quarterback? The best coach? The best defense? The most playoff-friendly schedule? There will be a $1 monthly text subscription as part of it, which will allow you to vote on whether a team should be kicked out or added to the playoff mix. And that's where we'll also take questions for the subscriber-only podcast we'll do each week. One big pod free, one Q&A pod for the subscribers. This will all start the first week in July and then build into the season. More information is coming, but for now, listen to Shehan and me as we discuss Ohio football vs. Texas football; how Texas let Quinn Ewers get recruited by Ohio State; why Tom Herman failed at Texas; and more. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk, and we hope you'll join us on the College Football Playoff Show with Doug Lesmerises. Five Longhorns were taken and this week's podcast tackles a number of angles coming out of the draft. — How Samuel Cosmi's selection reflects both sides of the coin when it comes to player development under former head coach Tom Herman. — Why Joseph Ossai's 2019 season where he played out of position on a bad Texas defense might've carried more weight with NFL teams than the All-American season he had in 2020. — Why the Denver Broncos targeted Caden Sterns in the fifth round and what version of the safety they believe they can get. — Did years of Texas defensive linemen being undervalued in the draft finally turn the other way with Ta'Quin Graham getting picked in the fifth round? — What going to the Indianapolis Colts means for Sam Ehlinger's future and why it might be the best NFL fit for any of the Longhorn draft picks. Plus, Rod relieves his draft weekend, what the drafts for Alabama and Washington say about Steve Sarkisian and Pete Kwiatkowski and how premium-round draft picks relate directly to victories on the field for the Longhorns are topics up for discussion on this week's episode of Longhorn Blitz! Temkin admits he wasn't initially blown away by Texas' hire of Steve Sarkisian to replace Tom Herman. But Temkin says he has since come around on Sarkisian's hire and explains why. Temkin talks about what the rest of the Big 12 thinks of the Sarkisian hire and where he projects Texas in the 2021 Big 12 race at this point. Hint: It's not first or second place. Temkin weighs in on the fact the Big 12 didn't have a single player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft and offers his thoughts on where Longhorns' players were selected - namely safety Caden Sterns and quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Temkin also uses Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard, who ran for 2,000 yards in 2019, as a cautionary tale about whether to return to school after a season like that (considering Hubbard wasn't selected until the fourth round and was considered now lower than a second-round pick if he'd have come out after the 2019 season). We talk Texas basketball with Temkin, a proud graduate of Kansas, who says the entire Big 12 should be on alert that Chris Beard is coming for them (thanks to Beard's prowess with attracting transfers). We wrap up this week's Flagship Podcast interview by sizing up what to like and what not to like about the Dallas Cowboys' draft, including first-round selection Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons. This week, on the interview edition of The Flagship Podcast, we talk to Longhorn observationalist and body language-ologist Mike Hardge, who used to be Chip Brown's co-host on AM 1300 The Zone's morning show "The Bottom Line" (until they disappeared from the air last November, following a nationwide layoff by iHeart Radio). Hardge, a 13-year pro baseball player and second-round pick of the Montreal Expos in 1990, talks about Texas football, basketball and baseball in a lively discussion you won't want to miss. Hardge talks about the surprise he experienced when he first heard Steve Sarkisian was named as Tom Herman's replacement and how Sark has helped win Hardge over. We talk about what Hardge is most looking forward to when spring football starts on March 23 (with the spring game on April 24), including the one player on offense and the one player on defense Hardge is most excited to see. Also, we talk to Hardge about "reasonable expectations" for Texas football under Sark in Year 1 - if such a thing as reasonable expectations exist in Longhorn Nation!! Hardge is a former AAU basketball coach who coached Royce O'Neale of the Utah Jazz back in the day, so we get Hardge's thoughts on how far the Longhorns have to go in March for Hardge to feel good about Shaka Smart returning as coach. You won't want to miss that discussion. Of course, we had to get Hardge's thoughts on Texas baseball - specifically what impresses Hardge about David Pierce's team as well as Hardge's concerns.  Catch all of that and much more on this week’s interview edition of The Flagship Podcast. On this week's interview edition of The Flagship Podcast, long-time Texas reporter Roger Wallace, the sports director at KXAN-TV in Austin the past 26 years, has been a part of Longhorn Radio Network broadcasts since 2004. We talk to Wallace about the state of Texas football, the $25 million decision to move on from Tom Herman and Herman's staff and the hiring of Steve Sarkisian. We ask Wallace what are "realistic expectations" (if such a thing exists among Texas fans) for Year 1 under Sarkisian?  One of Wallace's first assignments with the Longhorn Radio Network was serving as the sideline reporter for Texas' football game at Arkansas in 2004. Wallace called it "one of the loudest atmospheres I've ever been in - to this day - including at Ohio State in 2005." Of course, Texas plays at Arkansas again in Game 2 of 2021. We talk to Wallace about the state of Texas basketball in Year 6 under Shaka Smart as well as his thoughts on Vic Schaefer's first year leading the Texas women's basketball program. Wallace is a graduate of Indiana University. In fact, his senior year at IU was the same season then-basketball coach Bobby Knight threw a chair across the court against Purdue - and Wallace recounts it all for you. Wallace recaps his day Saturday when he called the Texas women's basketball game against OU when the Sooners erased a 10-point deficit in the final three minutes to upset Texas in OT before going over to Disch-Falk Field to help Craig Way call the Texas-BYU baseball game (in which the Cougars overcame a 4-0 deficit to knock off UT). Of course, we also ask Wallace about some of his favorite moments calling the action on the Longhorn Radio Network since 2004!! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is working to complete his coaching staff with the Longhorns after officially taking over for Tom Herman last Tuesday following Alabama’s win over Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship.  On this week’s interview edition of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 welcomes Travis Reier from BamaOnline.com to get an in-depth view of the first-year Texas head coach.  The Flagship Podcast interview episode discusses Reier’s thoughts on Texas hiring Steve Sarkisian after he covered the former Alabama OC for two years and how much of Bama's success the past two years on offense is the talent recruited by Nick Saban and how much of it has been Sark? What is Texas getting in Kyle Flood as an offensive line coach and likely offensive coordinator? How good of a recruiter is Flood? Who is A.J. Milwee, whom Sark is bringing in as QB coach? Reier gave his thoughts on Sark luring tight ends and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks away from Saban's staff and if Bama assistants have a shelf life under Saban. Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding appeared to be someone Sarkisian was interested in possibly bringing to Texas. Reier weighed in what Golding has meant to Alabama and Saban the past three seasons. Finally, Reier gave his thoughts on how successful Sarkisian will be as the head coach at Texas. Lance Taylor, who has been a prominent radio voice on legendary WJOX-FM, aka JOX 94.5 FM in Birmingham, Ala., for years, joined the Flagship Podcast to give his thoughts on Texas hiring Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian as head coach. Taylor gives his thoughts on Sarkisian as an offensive coordinator at Alabama and how he's undoubtedly matured as a coach and now seems ready to once again take over a program after his well-documented alcohol dependency issues that led to him being fired as USC's head coach in 2015.  Taylor acknowledges that getting to coach the talented players recruited to Alabama, such as Heisman Trophy winning receiver DeVonta Smith, would probably allow even Chip Brown to put up 35 points per game as offensive coordinator at Bama. But Taylor gives credit to Sarkisian for taking an offense that averaged 47.2 points per game in 2019, second only to national champion LSU (48.4 ppg), and improving the Crimson Tide's scoring to 48.2 points per game in 2020 heading into Monday night's national championship game against Ohio State. Taylor, a Heisman Trophy voter, weighs in on how he saw the 2020 Heisman Trophy race, which included three Alabama players (Smith, quarterback Mac Jones and running back Najee Harris) among this year's five finalists. Taylor said he lost a bet among his co-hosts on JOX 94.5 when Tom Herman was let go at Texas, because Taylor believed Herman would have Texas in the College Football Playoff within five years of being hired. Taylor, who runs a prognistication site where sports bettors can get his picks (lanceslock.com), gives his predicition for Monday night's championship game between Alabama and Ohio State.
