A husband asked a question about a good Modern RPG that he could run for his wife. She was not interested in anything related to Fantasy or the Science Fiction genre. Not interested in any fantastical or supernatural elements in a modern setting. When Jolene asked about this situation he immediately went to his bookcase and his Drivethrurpg Library. Saul picked out some RPGs that did not have any supernatural or fantastical elements. From the generic RPGs to some RPGs that offer a very specific type of games. From super spies and daring cops to very hard luck detectives and private eyes. Rpgs from well known RPG publishers to independent publishers using self publishing. Saul was reading some reddit posts and a user had a question about "good Modern RPG games." Saul decided it would make an interesting episode for this podcast. Saul asked Jolene and she had some very good questions about what the user meant by "Modern". Jolene asked if it meant the 1920's or the 2020's . She also asked if the user wanted to play a spy game, investigative, or survival game or any of other genres that could fall under the umbrella of a "Modern" game. Thank you all for listening. Amber loses her mind a little bit with YIIK, but gets it back once she starts to figure it out. She actually has a good time with it, but let her tell you all about it! She also gets her brain twisted with Superliminal. I on the other hand, nearly throw hands with Genshin Impact, but it's okay! I'm starting get a hold on the game and it's madness. Then I decide to cool down with some What The Golf!
Let's get in, get out and just focus on games where time is of the essence. Please note: We are unscripted. We ramble. We get off topic. We are rude. This week, we interview composer, writer, director, and programmer Andrew Allanson of Ackk Studios, who is developing YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG. Despite the name, even if you're not a big RPG guy, I think this episode has a lot of interesting discussion on game design in general! We talk about the purpose of music in games, looking outside the industry to create within it, and how to fight millions of bees. Next week, look forward to Blood Feast (1963) with Justin Whang!
