“No sink or nothing, right? You're just gonna go free ball it…”   1989 was the very first year EVER that The Recording Academy recognized hard rock and metal music with the “Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental”. And other than the completely insulting “slap in the face” by The Recording Academy to Metallica (think Will Smith & Chris Rock, but even more childish, petty, and completely unnecessary), there were no other Big Four albums or happenings in 1989.   (SIDEBAR: Y'know, maybe it's just speculation, conspiracy theory, or just good old-fashioned karma in action, but the way Metallica “lost” that Grammy, it's like they were literally “deleted from the mix” of nominees, so to speak. Not unlike a certain bass player from a certain mix on a certain album.   Originally Recorded on May 18th and May 26th, 2026   Happy Summer, fans! That Horror Show Podcast presents a horror double-feature review that is perfect to listen to while you are catching some rays while lounging beside the pool (always wear some sunscreen!)...or while you are mowing your lawn (careful you don't get your feet cut off!). Show hosts Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig tackle two films that are remakes of original work by the 'Godfather of Gore' himself Herschell Gordon Lewis! Nobody ever thought about remaking anything Lewis made...but then, it always takes a few wise-asses to consider the possibilities. So first up is "2001 Maniacs" (2005), a reworking of Lewis' original film "Two Thousand Maniacs!" (1964) and pretty much tells the same tale again (ie, a bunch of Northern tourists end up in a mysterious Southern town and are treated as 'guests of honor' and chaos ensues; you know, the normal story!), but this time with more comedy combined with gore. Oh, and it features Robert Englund and Lin Shaye along for the ride, so those two are major pluses! And for the second film is "Blood Feast" (2016), a complete overhaul of the original 1963 film of the same name, however this new version has a longer running time, better acting, and more story to tell...but, does that make it a "better" movie? And fear not: Nate from his own 'Nate's Corner' is on hand to give his review of "Final Destination" (2000).   

The Fly (1958), Return of the Fly (1959), and Curse of the Fly (1965) Among the many films in which deviant mad scientists pay the price for meddling with forces beyond human understanding, The Fly stands apart. Released in 1958, it presents a scientist whose intentions are genuinely noble: someone striving to create something that could benefit humanity. Unfortunately, an unforeseen accident turns his dream into a nightmare, and tragedy soon follows. While the film ultimately becomes a monster story, it offers far more than a typical 1950s creature feature. And, of course, when a film succeeds at the box office, sequels are inevitable. In this case, two followed, even if the third took six years to arrive. Across all three films, the Delambre family's experiments—and mistakes—continue, once again exacting a terrible toll in life, sanity, and suffering. Fans often disagree about which entry is the strongest, which is underrated, and which falls short, so we decided to take a deep dive into the entire trilogy. Along the way, we may give you a few new things to think about the next time you watch these films. And if you hear any buzzing while listening to the show, I'm sure it's nothing. There are few things more immediately associated with horror cinema than gruesome images of blood and gore. But it wasn't always like this. For the first 60 years of the film genre, there was very little gore to be found on screen at all. We continue with #VIDtober 2, where we explore the Canadian movies released by New World Video with an important Canadian film: 1967's PLAYGIRL KILLER! The first Canadian horror movie made in color shares a good amount of DNA with Herschel Gordon Lewis' BLOOD FEAST and TWO THOUSAND MANIACS! and also doesn't share some DNA too! Most prominently is actor Bill Kerwin, who starred in both of those films from Lewis but opted out of the third entry in Lewis' "Blood Trilogy" so he could head to Canada and shoot this, a film about a artist who just wants his models to hold their pose without fail for hours on end. Hopefully by now, everyone is familiar with those first three notes from the first Black Sabbath album. During The Middle Ages, this was referred to as DIABOLOUS IN MUSICA (which is Latin, meaning “The Devil In Music”). While also known as “The Devil's Interval”, or in musical parlance simply as the tritone, SLAYER fans recognize DIABOLOUS IN MUSICA as the band's 8th album of sonic evilocity and darkness, and the 2nd with Paul Bostaph on the drums.    Even though it was released on June 9, 1998, as the nu-metal era was peaking, DIABOLOUS IN MUSICA is most definitely NOT Slayer's “nu-metal” album. It still possesses all the sinister signature sounds and the dark, macabre subject matter, but there's an unusual, experimental quality present on this album which defies definition and is unlike anything found on their previous albums. The overall production quality is much more aggressive and grittier, with the vocal performances utilizing some never-before used darker nuances, ensuring that DIABOLOUS IN MUSICA is an almost gratifyingly uncomfortable listening experience.    It's time to get in touch with “good old ‘What's His Name?'” and discover the subtle yet hilarious differences between “chickpeas and garbanzo beans”. We all love Metallica here in the RAM offices. But those first four 80s albums was when our fandom burned brightest. And depending on the day, Record #2 "Ride The Lightning" is one of our faves. The combination of brutal thrash, brilliant musicianship and songwriting and bombastic attitude also makes it one of the more influential underground albums of the day. And this amazing slab 'o wax turns 40 (!!) years young. So we're doing a deep dive as part of our continuing look at some of the classics from '84. Lightning up your Ass!!
