As Season 11's "Let's Be Remarkable Tour" comes to a close, we can't move forward in becoming remarkable humans without talking about our picture of God and how we might limit receiving His love in our lives. Many of us equate receiving God's love with earning God's love through our good works or good behavior. To help us reframe, redraw, and reauthor our picture of God, we have Lacy Finn Borgo, author, and spiritual director, to guide us. In her new books, "All Will Be Well: Learning to Trust God," and "Faith Like a Child: Embracing Our Lives as Children of God," Lacy invites us to consider our picture of God in stunningly beautiful ways. Her words and wisdom invite each of us to take a pause in order to get that picture of God right. When we do, we live our lives from an authentic space that unleashes amazing freedom in Christ. Sometimes a pause is the most important moment in a beautiful piece of choreography or a magnificent symphonic presentation. Everything stands still for a second or two. This week, we pause in order to take in all of last week's episode with Curtis Chang, author of "The Anxiety Opportunity: Worry is the Doorway to Our Best Self." The wisdom of his words needs to linger. They need space to take root in our hearts and minds and souls. Included is a beautiful time of meditation. Take several pauses this week, as we approach Mother's Day, to gift yourself with a walk or two in our Father's playground...the greatest antidote to the Hijacker of Anxiety. Thank you so much for helping us achieve our goal of being actively downloaded in 100 countries, globally! On this explosive edition of Light ‘Em Up, ripped straight from the headlines — like a laser, we re-focus our attention on the breaking news in the killing of Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old, unarmed black man, in Akron, Ohio, our hometown. None of this story is foreign to us, we live here, we work here, we've raised our families here, we broadcast from here. After what seemed like an eternity — the 10-month investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Office within the office of the Attorney General for the State of Ohio — the investigators concluded their report of all actions taken in this use-of-force investigation. On Monday, April 17th a Special Summit County Grand Jury that was empaneled to hear the case of the 8 Akron Police Officers who shot 94 rounds, hitting Jayland Walker 46 times, returned a “no bill” verdict and none of the officers will be indicted on any charges stemming from their actions in gunning down Walker in a hail of bullets in an empty parking lot of the Bridgestone Center for Research & Technology at approximately 12:40 am on June 27th, 2022.Rhetorically we ask, “who gets shot 46 times and lives”? These 8 officers of the Akron Police Department, once they decided to fire upon Jayland Walker, they were determined to shoot until he was dead. Sadly, it has become more and more apparent that “contempt of cop” can easily get you killed in 2023.The police have very little tolerance for those who don't immediately “comply”. “Comply or die” sadly, has become more of a standard versus an anomaly or aberration. While there is no way that we can adequately cover the entire story in 1 episode, in this episode, our learning objectives are itemized below, as we endeavor to educate and empower you with facts that explain:♦ What is a Grand Jury?♦ What does a Grand Jury consist of?♦ What is the Grand Jury's role in the judicial process?♦ The State of Ohio's BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation's) Official Report.♦ The evidence, sifting through and combing-over the detailed fact-pattern in this case.♦Separating the facts from fiction and the truth from innuendo. The truth is difficult to hear for those who would wish to cover it up!The truth has no agenda and is very much worth fighting for! This case has E-X-P-L-O-D-E-D with breaking news! We're on the scene with members of our team with boots on the ground in order to keep you up to the minute and informed. You'll also hear:♦ The original police radio transmission of the chase as it unfolded.♦ A portion of Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost's press conference.♦ And Akron's Chief of Police, Steven Mylett, regarding the aftermath of his department shooting tear gas canisters to disperse a crowd that had been peaceful for two previous hours marching and protesting in accordance with their 1st amendment sanctioned constitutional rights.Note well: We advise you ahead of time — regarding the audio of the original chase you will hear coarse language and you will hear multiple gunshots; anticipate them and be forewarned, some may be disturbed by this content. We want to hear from you! In this episode of The Living Artist, the topic isn't so much about Fame as it is about Setting Intentions. Preston talks about getting crystal clear with what your end goal is as an artist, and then reverse-engineering the steps in order to get there. Many times we need to just cut through the noise and figure out what the right path is for us as individuals. It could be a path towards fame, success, financial freedom, making a living as an artist, or any other iteration that works for you. The power lies in a clear intention and then a visible path with actionable steps to getting there. Enjoy this episode! For more information on Preston M. The Book of Job asks some of life's most challenging questions... and the answers it gives call us to trust the Lord. But is there any benefit to trusting Him and obeying Him? Definitely! We'll unpack some of those benefits in today's podcast on Job 42: Job's Repentance and Restoration. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. The podcast mentioned that the book of Job addresses questions like, “Why is there so much suffering in this world? What kind of power does Satan have? Can I trust God, even when I don't understand Him?” Are any of these questions ones that have you asked in the past? How have you answered them? What is the Book of Job's answers to these questions? 2. The podcast also gave the following summaries of the advice from Job's friends: Eliphaz derived his wisdom from age and experience. Bildad derived his counsel from the wisdom of crowds and the authority of what the experts say. Zophar derived his wisdom from the pursuit of righteousness. And Elihu derived his wisdom from the pursuit of passion and zeal. Does any of this advice frame your own thinking? If so, how can you move on from that way of thinking? 3. Once the Lord begins to set the record straight in Job 38, what has He said so far? How has the question of “who?” been the ultimate answer to the question of “why?” 4. What did Job's repentance consist of in verses 2, 3, and 6? Why were these statements necessary for Job to say to the Lord? Have you ever said these kinds of things to the Lord? Why or why not? 5. After Job's repentance, how does the Lord restore him? What does this teach us about the Lord's desire to bless His people? 6. Sometimes people think that bad things happen to people because they are under judgment from God. What does the Book of Job show us, instead? 7. From what you have learned from the Book of Job, how should we think of God and His plans for our life? How can you align more with this mindset? Answers to suffering are not easy or simple and today, as we look at Job 39-41, the Lord helps Job understand His wisdom and power and that even when we do not understand what God is doing, He has a wise and good plan. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. Today's passage continues the opening instructions from Job 38 that we looked at yesterday. What did we discuss regarding the importance of knowing “who” the Lord is? 2. The main focus of Job 39 is on the Lord's work in creation. What kinds of things does the Lord focus on? How does His designs in creation reflect His sovereignty? 3. When the Lord asks Job what he has to say for himself in Job 40:2, what was Job's answer? What does this show us about Job's understanding of himself in relation to God? How is this different from the people who proudly predict what they will say to God when they finally meet Him? 4. What did the podcast mention about the difficulty of knowing who the animals are in Job 40 & 41? 5. How is the “behemoth” described in chapter 40, verses 15, 19, 20, 23 and 24? What do you think this was? 6. How is the “leviathan” described in chapter 41, verses 7, 10, 13? What do you think this was? 7. The ultimate point of all these instructions about animals is that everything is under God's control and operates according to His design. How might these truths help a person who is struggling to understand why bad things happen? 8. The podcast moves on to Isaiah 45:20-24. According to the podcast, how does this passage help us understand God's wisdom and His ways? What will all people one day say about Him? 9. As we wrap up today's study, we saw that Job repented of his irreverent questioning of God. Is there any such repentance needed in your own life? One of life's most universal questions is "Why?" That's the question Job was asking all along, but today we find out that the question he really should have been asking was "Who? Join us for today's study in a powerful passage dealing with questions we sometimes ask. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. Although we have blitzed through the book of Job, at this point you probably have a good idea of the situation. What is going on in Job's life? 2. What kinds of answers did Job's friends offer? Why were these answers not helpful? What were they based on? How does the Lord describe their prattling in verse 2? 3. Verse 1 tells us that the Lord answered Job out of a whirlwind. Think about the last time you were in a windstorm, what would any conversation have been like with all that noise? How does this help us understand that this was truly the Lord speaking and not just some vague “impression” that Job might have had? 4. The podcast points out that one of the most common words throughout this passage is the word “Who?” It occurs 13 times in verses 2, 5, 25, 36, and 37. Glance over these verses. Who is the “who” referring to? 5. How does this help us understand shifting our questions of “why?” to “who?” Why is the answer of “who” necessary to understand the answer to the question “why?” How is the answer of “who” foundational to the answers of every other question? 6. Look over these verses. What do they tell us about the Lord's power and character? How does knowing about His character help us trust Him when we still have unanswered questions? 7. What questions of “why?” are you facing now? (Or what questions of “why?” have you faced in the past?) How does knowing “who” God is, help you rest in those situations? How can we develop the grit to break through barriers and unstick our minds? Today's guest, Mimika Cooney, shares tools based on faith and neuroscience to help you move forward to fulfill your purpose and live your best. Mimika is the creator of the “Unstick Your Mind“ a mindset mastery method, a transformative program that equips Christians with the tools to achieve their breakthroughs. Mimika is a Certified John Maxwell DISC Behavioral Analysis Coach and Consultant and is equipped with advanced training in behavioral analysis. She has studied the Neuroscience of Change with Coaches Rising, with the Positive Psychology Institute and NICABM. She is working on her certification as a Brain Health Coach with Amen Clinics University. Mimika is an empowering motivational Speaker, Author of 10 published books, 25-year entrepreneur, 10 years experience as a marketing consultant, international award-winning photographer, and 10 year veteran podcast host of the “Mimika TV” show. Huffington Post nominated her as one of "50 Women Entrepreneurs to Follow in 2017". Podcasting Magazine nominated Mimika among the “Top 50 Moms in Podcasting” in 2020, and nominated #9 amongst FeedSpot's Best 40 Christian Women Podcasts of 2021. Described as visionary, forward-thinking, influential, inspiring, innovative, dynamic, dashing, unconventional, ambitious, respected, results-oriented, motivating, competitive, entertaining, and striving for excellence. Mimika's vivacious energy will bring dynamic differences and enlighten an audience so that they feel inspired and motivated to take on any challenge! When she is not dreaming up creative concepts, coaching, training, speaking, writing books, or hosting her podcast; she will be found perfecting her spins on the ice as a competitive adult figure skater. As a personal challenge, Mimika took up skating as an adult at age 31. She has made it her mission to retrain her brain and muscle memory to learn this new skill. She has gone on to win several skating medals, which goes to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks! Cooney shares her personal experiences which led her to become passionate about mindset transformation. God took her through an inner healing process that revealed her mental programming. Mimika explains that mental programming might not be true, but we're not taught to challenge it. She advises aligning with purpose to reset yourself to who God created you to be. Cooney states we must retrain ourselves by renewing our minds daily. She highlights the power that is unlocked by living in our full potential. Mimika defines the term "grit" as the combination of resilience and perseverance. She says we give up too easily. Our society promotes avoidance. Cooney advises we must embrace the season we're in and recognize the possibility of change. You're not stuck with the brain you have. She emphasizes persistence when we cannot see immediate results. God rewards our faith and rewards the faithful. We discuss the worship of comfort. Cooney states that we need long-lasting solutions instead of quick fixes. She describes the discipleship process as a journey. Signs of a stuck mindset include: unwillingness to change defensiveness denial pride frustration Mimika notes awareness is key. She says we need to be willing to be challenged and open to criticism. The starting point to breaking barriers and unsticking your mind is the awareness you're stuck. Be open to seeing the signs and remain objective. Mimika encourages us to have the objective vision of an eagle instead of the limited viewpoint of a chicken. We must remove ourselves from emotion and become teachable. Cooney encourages the following tips to unstick your mind: document where you are journal with pen and paper review your journal later to see problems objectively start slowly remain consistent celebrate small steps count your blessings take time to rest let go of perfectionism Cooney declares grit as a product of experience, not something born into a select few. When facing discouragement, Cooney says we must choose to believe where you want to go is possible. Hold onto a vision. Reread where God has been faithful in the past. Believe you can change. Mimika notes that where faith and grit meet, we find persistence. Thank you for listening to the Following Films podcast. Today I'm joined by director Michael Neelsen (Last Day at Lambeau Field) to discuss his documentary film BEYOND HUMAN NATURE BEYOND HUMAN NATURE explores the conflict that arises from mankind's inherent need to make sense of the world and his limited abilities to do so. Is it possible to be completely committed to the truth while being unable to see it? Can the pursuit of truth become an end in itself, preventing us from progressing further? Is the truth inherently elusive? These and other questions will be addressed in a first-person account of the Tom Monfils murder investigation in 1992-1995 and its contentious aftermath. On this show, I discuss the topic of towels, their purpose and where they fit in when it comes to what I like to call the "bathing chain". It's like the food chain, but this is about washing things. By Job 19, Job thinks he's at death's door and yet, he has total hope in his coming Redeemer who is God. Join us for a special excursus study in one of the Key Verses in the Entire Old Testament! 1. In verse 25, when Job says that he “knows” his Redeemer lives, what does this word “know” indicate about the depth of Job's certainty regarding this? Where do you think this kind of conviction comes from? How are you pursuing this kind of conviction in your own life? 2. In verse 25, what is a “redeemer”? How does Galatians 4:4-5 help us understand this concept more? 3. According to Colossians 1:13-14, what has Christ's redemption accomplished? 4. The podcast explained that the word for “redemption” in verse 25 is a specific word “ga'al” which is used when the two people (the redeemER and the redeemED) who were related to each other. What does this tell us about the nature of Jesus? How does this tie back to the Lord's promise in Genesis 3:15? 5. In verse 25, Job says that his redeemer “lives”. Given that Job was written well over 1,000 years before Christ, why is this a startling pronouncement? 6. What event is Job talking about in verse 26? What is Job saying that he believes? 7. Look up Isaiah 26:29, Ezekiel 37:12-14 and Daniel 12:2. What do these passages tell us about the resurrection? 8. According to the podcast, how is the word “see” that's used in verse 27 a different word than the word “see” that's used in verse 26? What might this difference indicate about the kind of sight we will have after the resurrection? 9. When you reflect on how early this book was written, how does this passage increase your own confidence in the certainty of these truths? This is part two as there were an abundant of great singles released in England in that year of 1967. These songs were selected for their unique character and stimulating atmospherics they created. That's not to say that they sold well, some did though many others didn't. But these songs are canonized as artifacts of that glorious Summer of Love.
