Dan Johnson is a husband, father, and founder of the website New Paths. During his younger years, Dan was introduced to pornography by a friend. As he got older, the addiction intensified. During his college years, Dan used the internet as a way of accessing porn and felt the guilt and shame of his actions. Before Dan got married, he told his then girlfriend that he was addicted to pornography. After the couple got married, they implemented filters on their devices to prevent him from falling into temptation. Unfortunately, he was unable to resist, and he fell off the wagon again. Once Dan realized that he had to make a change, he joined a peer group to keep him accountable. With any addiction, it can be easy to fall back into temptation and continue the cycle. However, having a sense of community drives you to be better and helps you to understand that you are not alone. With porn especially, comes a great amount of guilt and shame. What Dan has done is implemented a three-step process that helps you recognize those urges, process them, and actively count the reps of your resistance. The action of recognizing the urges, saying them out loud, and then counting each rep that you resisted the urge to watch porn has allowed Dan and many other men to overcome their addiction. Maureen and Dan are fine. Just fine. Once Dan duct tapes this mic, and Maureen makes sure she hasn’t taken the dog’s medication, they’ll get right to it. Because things are great. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.Because today’s SaysWhovia is RETRO. Russian interference? Check. Steve Bannon arrested on a boat? Check. Weird tapes with people talking shit about Trump? Check. Kellyanne Conway ripping her go bag from under the floorboards and disappearing into the night? Check! It’s everything we thought 2017 would be, but now with a crunchy outer layer of 2020! And again, Dan and Maureen are fine.Get into this boat. We’re beating on against the current events, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
No pleasure. No happiness. Only enjoyment. Creating new order in consciousness is the subject of this episode, in which we reject the symbolic goal of happiness, pushed by the publishers of 'Flow'. We look at cancelling activities which provide only pleasure, most of which are found guilty of obstructing Flow, concentrating instead on the pursuit of complex enjoyment. Since the Flow experience is not inherently "good" and the super-ego is not always the dominant force in conflict with the shadow, we consider Mihaly's criminal friends and the enjoyment they get from robbing a house. Once Dan has dismissed all social media as mindless pleasure, James makes the case for a wonderfully flowing time there. And if you don't fancy a life of crime or phone addiction, why not try life-long education? Something for all the family. This episode was recorded with James in the Paradise Private Practice in Montpellier, in front of a large jar of jam, and Dan in the London Private Practice. Twenty minutes before the end of the episode Dan says, "So, to summarise…" and this is followed by James finally getting into what he actually wanted to talk about, so do stay to the end…Find all episodes of Private Practice Podcast and send us your thoughts at www.privatepracticepodcast.net – I'm sure we will appreciate your concise, considered and extraordinarily witty contributions.'Flow' by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi claims to be 'The classic work on how to achieve happiness', although we think it's more like 'how to create states of purposeful complexity', which make for enjoyment, which can be interpreted as happiness. But obviously no one is going to write that on the cover of a book. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi spent over two decades looking scientifically at situations in which people from a variety of social and biological backgrounds report feelings of deep enjoyment. His studies revealed that what makes experience genuinely satisfying is a state of ordered concentration and complexity, which eliminates the psychic entropy that causes anxiety, and he called this 'Flow'. This episode is based on Chapter 3 of the book.
Dan Aran grew up in Israel listening to the great record collection of his mother. Once Dan began drumming, he made several trips to the United States before eventually moving to New York permanently. Once he planted his roots there, he got extremely busy drumming in numerous musical situations. Dan has just stepped out as a bandleader with the remarkable release New York Family. On episode 061, Dan joins Jamie to discuss his career from beginning to current day, the new release, and he offers a brilliant perspective on the world of jazz and drumming in general. Dan is certainly making waves and is one of the hot young guns in the world of Jazz.
Dan Burke is an endurance race junky who has competed at the highest of levels in kayaking, marathons, trail races, ultramarathons, bike races, and now an Iron Man. Dan got his start in kayaking, where he joined the United States kayaking team in 2003, 2007, 2009. He was crowned the C1 freestyle kayak world champion in 2007. After partaking in some marathons between 2009 and 2011, Dan decided he wanted to take a stab at trail races. He took on the Wapac trail race in 2012, which included 43 miles of distance and 7.5 miles of climbing. Once Dan reached 2015, it is safe to say that he was utterly addicted to endurance racing. In that year alone, Dan compete in the Wapac 50 miler, the Vermont 50 miler, the Ghost train 100k, and over 25 Spartan obstacle races. The next obvious step, was to then take on the Vermont 100 miler in 2016. After that monster of a race, Dan decided to shift gears and throw himself into Ironman training in 2017. That is presently where Dan spends most of his energy preparing for the Ironman Race at Lake Placid in 2018. I got to know Dan well when he was an athlete at my CrossFit gym years ago. He is a fantastic guy and he has inspired me to reach beyond my limits since the first day that I met him. I hope he can do something similar for you. He was far from the strongest guy when he stepped foot in the gym, but his willingness to persevere is incredible and I am proud to call him a friend. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Dan Burke.

TITU supporting article: https://adamharkus.com/search-perfect-guitar-tone/ YouTube video of Dan with this guitar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp-f7Qd72Ic&t=101s Website: https://tunein-toneup.com Dedicated post: https://tunein-toneup.com/2017/07/14/guitar-lesson-16d-prs-with-thornbuckers-tone-pedals/ In this lesson Dan demonstrates the range of tone available just using the tone and volume controls on his PRS. This guitar is the latest to Dan's collection and I'm sure that you agree, it sounds phenomenal. Part of the reason for this, other than the superb workmanship that goes into Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 guitars, is the fact that Dan changed his 85/15 humbuckers for Suhr Thornbuckers - so named because they were inspired by Pete Thorn, a truly incredible player, a lovely guy and a real guitar geek. I have to agree, listening to this podcast that these pickups create a different flavour of tone on Dan's PRS. I'm tempted, but can't really justify the expense, so I am sticking with the 85/15s which are lovely pickups, but possibly a little too boomy in the lower tone settings. You can hear and see Dan using this guitar on our YouTube Channel where we have uploaded our first video - this complements a lesson on Jazzy and Funky improvisation which should come out at the start of August. Don't forget to subscribe to this channel as we are anticipating much more content to come out like this in the future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp-f7Qd72Ic&t=101s This is the room where all of our podcast episodes are recorded: Notice the cot on which a PRS case is resting, the other cases to the right and the size of the room. This is Dan's daughters' bedroom, which we acquire the use of for our lessons; you may have heard some of the background noise of children playing and making sounds? We hope that this, rather than detract from our podcast, adds to the authenticity and rawness of our content. We often laugh at the setup which we use and wonder who would guess it was like this. Once Dan has demonstrated the range of tones he can dial in, again only using the controls and pickup switching on the guitar, we finish this episode with some discussion about clean boosts, volume pedals and EQ pedals (the Boss GE7 is the only pedal we use here for some more oomph) In these lessons, Dan demonstrates to Gary how you can use these controls on different guitars with the setting on the amplifier left untouched. It really is incredible how with a little understanding you can dial in such a range of tone from the controls which are always under your fingers. For example, knowing that the ‘treble bleed circuit’ will decrease the bass from your signal as you lower the volume means that you will realise that with a low volume you will get a thinner twangier sound and diminish the boom of the bass. Likewise, adding volume will increase the thickness, distortion and crunch which you have already dialled into your amplifier. Covered in this mini-series: 16a) Dan demonstrates the versatility of Gary's PRS without touching the controls on the amp 16b) Dan shows us that it is possible to get a thick, humbucker-type tone on a single-coil stratocaster 16c) Dan gets a twangy tone with his Les Paul 16d) Dan puts his own PRS through its paces See this extra detail from other players via our question on Quora: https://www.quora.com/How-do-you-use-your-volume-and-tone-controls-on-your-guitar
It's Super Rugby Final week here at Green and Gold Rugby but because there are no Aussie teams playing we are going to bring you another in our series of Rugby World Cup 2015 Podcasts. This week we finally get to the position you've all been waiting for, the front row. What better man to have on the show than a two-time RWC winner, the tough as nails Dan Crowley. Despite winning two World Cups, Crowls has a different story to tell than those of most of our previous guests as Dan only started two games in both tournaments, however was a crucial part of the wider squad. It's a great listen with some interesting insight to the success of those two great Wallaby teams. Once Dan departs, Hugh and Steve join me to dissect the two Super Rugby Semi-Finals to work out where it went wrong for the Brumbies and Tahs. Once we're done though, we have a go at picking our Wallaby team for the first test of the year against the Springboks in Brisbane on 18 July. Once again we are thrilled to be supported by the Reds Rugby Long Lunch on 16 July in Brisbane. Special guests will include David Campese, Ben Tune, Bob Skinstad, Sir Graham Henry, Bob Dywer and Wallaby coach Michael Cheika.
