Teen is joined by Chris as they reminiscence about the early motivations they'd had for starting Plan A (e.g. Asian American online gender wars, Asian American political awareness) and what does and doesn't matter to them about those topics anymore. Have you ever gone to some artsy event in America and realized that the vast majority of Asians there were women? Given how much of the creative output from Asia is dominated by Asian men, it surely can't be said that Asian men are somehow genetically uninterested in the arts. So is there something about American culture that creates these gender imbalances among Asian Americans? Is it a supply or demand problem? Returning guest Ray (writer) and new guest Jon Truei (filmmaker) join Oxford Kondo to discuss their experiences of being straight yellow men in America, trying to express themselves creatively. *This is a bonus episode for Patreon subscribers! Today we welcome Oxford Kondo (http://twitter.com/oxford_kondo) to discuss whether it's racist for Game of Thrones to be so white, and on the flipside the trend of casting minorities to play white characters, including racebending (changing traditionally white characters to black, or even using nonwhite actors to play white historical figures in biopics). With many Asian Americans only being a generation or two, if at all, removed from Asia, it's important to be informed about political and social movements there. Journalist E. Tammy Kim, who recently wrote the article #KoreaToo for the New York Review of Books, joins Oxford Kondo in talking about the many layers and issues of the burgeoning movement for women's progress in Korea, from workplace equality to domestic violence to spycam pornography to online culture wars. Condemnation and defense of Sarah Jeong has fallen along the familiar fault lines of online culture. She has been portrayed as either a Pol Pot against white people or a Joan of Arc against racist and sexist trolls. But what if she is neither? Jess, Teen, and Oxford discuss how an old instance of performative wokeness (almost certainly intended in jest for a small media-class clique) has now been forcibly repackaged as a greater expression of minority, especially Asian American, anger. And who benefits the most from all this? The white liberal establishment, which not only gets to be seen promoting a woman of color, but also gets to extract a humble apology from her. Also, some football-bashing at the end.
