In out 73rd podcast, we present you with the second of our talks at the recent Peakender weekend. We sat down in front of a live audience to discuss future trends within craft beer. Michelle and Matt from Lakes Brew Co, Alex from North Brewing Co., Russ from Amity Brew Co., and Nick from Pomona Island sat down with us to give us their thoughts on what styles we may or may not be drinking in the coming years. We ask who dictates trends within beer, how breweries react with ever changing tastes, and is Cold IPA the next must brew style. They tell us about how they learn about new styles, if they brew beer they want to brew or do they brew just for the drinkers, and if lactose is dead. Also we find out how a lone trumpeter can derail a podcast pretty quickly. lakesbrewco.com northbrewing.com amitybrew.co pomonaislandbrew.co.uk ----------- www.beernomicon.com All our podcasts are now on Spotify. Yep this coming Friday *should* be the start of Peakender 2020, the three-day beer and music festival at Bakewell Showground organised by Thornbridge Brewery. Of course, it isn't happening, so instead we have our own petit Peakender art home. Indoors of course (it was raining heavily!) We're joined by Alice Batham from the Thornbridge brewing team as we reminisce about previous years and find out how things have been at the brewery over lockdown. Not forgetting sharing a beer each as well, themed around Peakender. You can have your very own Peakender at Home with Thornbridge's rather nifty box here: https://shop.thornbridgebrewery.co.uk/products/peakender-case (https://shop.thornbridgebrewery.co.uk/products/peakender-case)
Ferment editor Richard Croasdale is just back from visiting the Peak District, home of Thornbridge brewery. As hosts of the epic Peakender beer festival, this month's Beer52 selection is made up of our picks from the event. Rich and Doug talk about Thornbridge's New England IPA, Green Mountain, and what else will be pouring at the festival.
This episode we headed to the beautiful Peak District in Derbyshire for the Thornbridge Peakender Festival, a three day celebration of beer, food, music and more. We were joined by special guests Steve from the Beer O'Clock Show podcast and Laura, Adam and James from The Sheffield Hopcast to discuss our Peakender experiences, guess the Mystery Beer and talk about what inspired us to set up beer podcasts. The beers we sampled this time were: Thornbridge Bliss Point and Elio. Special thanks to Chloe from Thornbridge for sorting us out with the Thornbridge beers we sampled this episode and to Steve for providing the mystery beer this time. The third of our Peakender episodes sees Adam host an interactive session in Tent 1 with Dom and Nick from the Thornbridge brew team. Our audience has a chance to fire questions at the pair, and we hear a few of their stories from over the years (which one of them was sick all over a train toilet?)We also try three Thornbridge beers and find out more about them: Versa, Elio and Necessary Evil.
Our second Peakender episode sees us meet the amazing Firestone Walker brewery from California.Brewmaster Matt joins James and our live audience to discuss the brewery's origins, recent expansions and future aims. The rain has stopped, the sun is shining, and we start Saturday afternoon with a nice gentle 12.5% to clear out those camping cobwebs.
In the first of our special Peakender episodes, we host the first Meet The Brewer event of the weekend in Tent 1. It's wet and it's windy but spirits are high as James chats to Rob about the brewery, his background, the future, and we try three Thornbridge beers with the audience
June's Beer Here Now comes from The Eagle, the latest member of the Thornbridge family on Ecclesall Road on Sheffield. Adam, James and Rebs crack open new cans of Lukas (fresh off the canning line less than 24 hours ago) and share them with The Eagle manager Toby Hickman and our very special guest Ed Cosens from Reverend and the Makers. He tells us about the band's forthcoming Best Of album and tour... and how they're bringing back their brilliant beer from a few years ago to boot. Toby has the story of The Eagle and everything you want to know about the new place to go in Sheffield. Rebs gives us the very latest Peakender news - tickets are selling fast so get yours soon: peakender.co.uk Keep an eye out for the newly canned Lukas coming to a shop near you soon, and don't forget you can order beer online at thornbridge.co.uk Preorder the Rev Best Of album and tour here: https://rntm.lnk.to/BestOfFa
Two new beers - and two beautiful beers! We find all about the new releases available in a Tesco near you right now: Yelamu, a Double IPA collaboration with Magic Rock; and Pink Grapefruit Halcyon, the latest fruity version of the classic Imperial IPA. Adam and James are joined by Thornbridge Field Sales Manager James Buxton and Export Manager James Buchanan to try out the beers. We also get to know Buxton a bit better (and resort to just calling each other by our surnames to avoid James confusion). We have news about Peakender and some tap takeovers in London next week, plus we take a look at the ongoing Thornbridge rebranding project.
Episode 3 of Beer Here Now reflects the time of year we all don the sensible hat - by checking out the story of Thornbridge's 0.5% ABV beer Big Easy. We hear about the origins of the beer, and its remarkable success in its short life. Plus will James work out it's a low alcohol beer from taste alone?
