You all asked for this paranormal fever dream, and we're delivering. This episode is packed with haunted New Orleans encounters that will make you want to book a flight and immediately cleanse your suitcase afterward. We're talking ghostly figures caught in cemetery photos, possible time slips in the French Quarter, voodoo museums with seriously heavy energy, a Rougarou sighting, haunted hotels, and the very real fear that something paranormal might hitch a ride home with you after a weekend in the Big Easy. NOLA encounters include: A visit to a New Orleans voodoo museum is followed by a terrifying late night encounter with a towering horned entity standing beside a listener's bed. A cemetery tour photo captures what looks like a ghostly woman charging straight toward the crowd. Two friends experience what feels like a time slip after getting mysteriously transported nearly an hour away while walking through the French Quarter. A possible Rougarou sighting leaves one listener convinced something with glowing red eyes was stalking her from the shadows. A haunted French Quarter school becomes the setting for repeated encounters with the ghost of a floating little girl. Watch the video version here. Have ghost stories of your own? In a city known for culinary excellence, Brennan's Restaurant stands out as a cornerstone of New Orleans cuisine. Founded in 1946 by Owen Brennan, the restaurant was elevated to international fame by his sister, the visionary Ella Brennan. Today, it's operated by Ralph Brennan, who continues the family legacy. On this week's show, we celebrate 80 years of Brennan's in the Big Easy. The birthplace of Bananas Foster (the famous flaming dessert reaches its 75th anniversary this year) is known not only for its masterful French Creole dishes but also for its joyful, vibrant atmosphere. There's perhaps no man who embodies that high-spirited style and flair than Brennan's General Manager Christian Pendleton. We sit down with Christian to learn what it takes to control the chaos of such a large operation, while keeping the party going in the dining room. Then, we meet Brennan's Executive Chef Kris Padalino. When Kris was studying math and chemistry at Cal State Fullerton, she envisioned a life in the medical field, not one in a commercial kitchen. Once she committed to a culinary career, the Florida-native embarked on cross-country journey that would eventually crown her as Brennan's first female executive chef in eight decades. Kris joins us in the studio to discuss her history-making rise to success in Brennan's kitchen. Finally, we get an inside look into the family business. We speak with Ralph Brennan and his two daughters, Kathryn Brennan and Kristen Brennan Leonard. While Kathryn has been a part of Ralph's team for over a decade, Kristen is the newest addition – just coming on board in January. The family trio discusses a wide range of subjects, including what its like for all of them to be part of a New Orleans dining dynasty. In this Journey to the Fringe mini, we're dealing with some heavy "emoceans"—literally. The Big Easy is officially facing a terminal diagnosis thanks to rising sea levels, and politicians are keeping quiet because nobody wants to be the one to tell a city to pack its bags. We dive into the murky logistics of relocating an entire population, the dread of billionaire-funded replacement cities, and the most pressing question of all: what happens to all those New Orleans ghosts? Spoiler: they better learn to scuba. Get your trips in now before NOLA becomes a strictly underwater attraction!https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/may/04/new-orleans-sea-levels-relocation-climate-crisis

The first round is in the books, and it's time to separate the reaches from the absolute home runs. In this episode, we are breaking down my Top 5 Picks of the First Round (plus a critical honorable mention) to determine which front offices put on a drafting clinic. We aren't just looking at draft position. To find the true winners of Day 1, we are measuring every pick against five strict value metrics:Pure Value & Steals: Did a top-tier talent slide right into their lap?Draft Aggression: Did they have to give up capital to move up and get their guy?Scheme & Roster Fit: How smoothly does their tape translate to their new coordinator's system?Need Fulfillment: Did the pick directly solve the roster's biggest structural weakness? The Ceiling: What is the absolute highest developmental peak for this player? From franchise-altering safety play in the Big Easy and Big Apple to dominant trenches in the AFC, we rank the best of the best.

Still reeling from last weekend's garage sale, Andy joins Brendan for this "efficient" Wednesday episode while on hold with an AI chatbot. The garage sale tales continue to begin the show, with Andy explaining the latest wrinkle in furniture sales around the Bay Area: the existence of toll bridges. After cleaning up the remaining fallout from Andy's weekend, Brendan transitions things to the ongoing LIV funding saga. It seems like more and more information comes out each day regarding the league's future, which Scott O'Neil reiterated was set for the remainder of 2026. That may be true, but the much-anticipated LIV New Orleans event scheduled for the end of June has now been postponed. This means that LIV will play zero events from June 7 to July 23, leaving players on their own to prepare for two major championships in between those dates. Andy and Brendan read through the press release from the State of Louisiana regarding the postponement and wonder what the rumored "exposition" LIV event coming to the Big Easy in the fall could possibly be. Andy settles on an idea that he thinks could salvage LIV and actually allow the tour to become somewhat financially viable, but doubts whether this will be put into practice. Speaking of financial viability, there's plenty of discussion about a possible Signature Event bubble on the PGA Tour with five top players skipping out on this week's Cadillac Championship. Despite the spotty attendance, the Tour returns to Trump National Doral's Blue Monster in Miami, now adorned with a "Gold Man" statue overlooking the driving range. Andy submits his list of 5 Guys to Monitor This Week, keying in on some players who might be extra comfortable with the amount of gold on the premises. One-and-done picks are made, as always, with Andy looking to stay hot after back-to-back wins at the Masters and RBC Heritage. A look at the remaining events on the Schedule of the Week brings us to Dick Teder's DP World Tour debut, yet another Champions Tour major, and Michael Block's continued domination at the PGA Professional Championship. From medieval France to ancient Greece, these chilling cases of accused werewolves reveal a dark history where shapeshifting confessions, devil's pacts, and gruesome crimes blurred the line between legend and reality.==========HOUR ONE: On a barren field in the U.S. state of Georgia, five granite slabs rise in a star pattern. Each of them weighs over 20 tons and on top of them, there is a capstone. Nobody knows who built it or why they were placed there, but one popular opinion that their purpose is to guide humanity after a predicted post-apocalyptic event that will come in the not so distant future. (The American Stonehenge) *** When you think "fairies," what comes to mind? You probably picture an adorable and sparkly creature akin to Disney's Tinker Bell, a lovely - and above all, friendly - presence. You may even want to make contact with them. Unfortunately, glittering humanoids with butterfly wings are the stuff of children's books. Retrace faerie folklore, and you'll discover their secret scary origins. (The Dark Side of Fairies) *** In the Summer of 1949, a geologist named Vadim Kolpakov discovered a strange feature on the surface of the earth in the Bodaibo, Irkutsk, region of South-Eastern Siberia. Encircled by a largely treed area, this anomaly is oval with a conical crater that contains a small ball-like mound in its middle. The geologic mystery has baffled scientists who are uncertain of what caused this weird formation. (What Caused the Patomskiy Crater) *** Is there any truth behind the enduring legend of the werewolf? (Planet Werewolf) *** The Red Pen==========HOUR TWO: Love, money, divorce, anger, and murder. One Pennsylvania family had it all and then some in the late 1800's. (The Butler County Tragedy) *** Count Saint Germain and Jacques Saint Germain, John and Wayne Carter, the Casket Girls of New Orleans. Despite many years between all of their lives, they all still have one grisly thing in common. All were thought to be, and possibly were, real vampires tied to the Big Easy… a place where real blood-suckers continue to live and roam the streets even now in the twenty-first century. (Vampires of New Orleans) *** They have a long history in the United Kingdom, stalking the moors and fog-carpeted streets in the night. But it appears hounds from Hell have also made their way to the Americas. Many of us toy with the idea of committing our life stories to pen and paper. If you're a regular listener to Louisiana Eats, or simply another food obsessed Louisianan, odds are your biography may well take the form of food memoir. This week, we hear from a trio of writers who have been there and done that. First, we catch up with Sara Roahen. Her award-winning memoir, Gumbo Tales: Finding My Place at the New Orleans Table, chronicles her adjustment to life in the Big Easy. But Sarah is also a teacher of memoir writing and has penned a guide for aspiring authors. She shares some tips from her book, How to Begin Writing Your Life Stories: Putting Memories on the Page. Next, author Karen Katz gives us backstage access to the wild world of food TV. She writes about her adventures as Emeril Lagasse's cooking show producer in her memoir, Getting Sauced: How I Learned Everything I Know About Food From Working in TV. Finally, we speak with stand-up comic and actor Dan Ahdoot. In his debut memoir, Undercooked: How I Let Food Become My Life Navigator and How Maybe That's a Dumb Way to Live, Dan examines his emotional relationship with food starting from childhood, and provides both an honest and comedic look at where that has gotten him. For more of all things Louisiana Eats, be sure to visit us at PoppyTooker.com.

‘Euphonic Gumbo' is not exactly a “Nawlin's” menu item but instead a tasty musical delight that's the title of of a new album on Club 44 Records from vocalist and Broadway star Julie Benko, featuring a dazzling seven-piece band directed by her pianist-arranger husband, Jason Yeager. This recording is the result of the collaborating couple's numerous trips to New Orleans where they developed a love for the Crescent City and its rich musical and cultural histories. The album's title comes from Benko's original play ‘Down the Line' that is set in Storyville, New Orlean's former red-light district, and features the legendary pianist Tony Jackson, a mentor to Jelly Roll Morton, as the central character. Eventually, Benko and Yeager were invited by Birdland mainstay Jim Caruso to bring their musical ensemble to the club where their Big Easy-inspired celebrations have become a beloved winter tradition. All of this led to the development of the recording ‘Euphonic Gumbo', and the story unfolds in my conversation with Julie Benko and Jason Yeager.
