As the FIG Congress 2022 winds down and the conference goers head for the exits, we felt it was a good time to bring another excellent guest to “Surveyor Says! The NSPS Podcast” and we found ourselves a great one. Claire Buxton, an FIG Young Surveyor and past leader of the Volunteer Community Surveyor Program (VCSP), joined Tim Burch to talk about the Congress, expansion within the FIG YSN, and exciting days ahead in the surveying profession. Originally from New Zealand and now practicing in Canada, Claire shared her perspective on being a young surveyor working as a Project Manager above the Arctic Circle and how mentoring has become a big part of her daily job. She also talked about the importance of the surveyor's role within the VCSP and training young practitioners to help establish cadastral areas within developing countries. Claire and Tim also touched upon how diversity in surveying is important to its growth, and how roles within the profession have changed drastically within the last generation. You've heard it here before but it bears repeating: nobody went to school for sales and even less people went to school for sales leadership. We invest a great deal in terms of training for sellers, so why are we not doing the same for our frontline managers? In this episode of the Love Selling Hate Sales podcast, our host Josh Wagner talks to sales management and leadership coach Shawn Buxton about the most pressing issues that sales leaders face, and introduces his framework for addressing the gaping hole that is the absence of training and support for sales leaders.  HIGHLIGHTSSales leadership vs sales management: what's the difference? The best sellers don't necessarily make good managersSales leaders should be intentional in creating their own culturesA clearly defined culture helps you coach more specificallyUse your one-on-one time to deliver customized coachingThe 3 Levels of Communication: Contact, Conversation, and ConnectionGood communication goes beyond simple Slack messagesIt's crucial to get mentorship from the outsideThe benefits of having an intentional leader QUOTESShawn on the difference between sales management and sales leadership: "I would say almost anybody can be a good sales manager if you're just looking at the management duties. But very few people are good at sales leadership because there's so much nuance to the roles and responsibilities of a sales leader versus just a sales manager."Shawn on the absence of intentionality in creating company cultures: "The mistake that most leaders make, even at the most senior level is that they're building accidental cultures instead of intentional cultures. Meaning, they're just hiring cool people, people that maybe have great skills or they're cool or nice. They're good to people and they're just kind of crossing their fingers and hoping that something good comes out of it."What most sales leaders get wrong about communication, according to Shawn: "The biggest mistake that sales leaders make in regards to communication is they have too high of expectations for the level of communication that they're constantly executing. They're just making contact but they're expecting connection-level performance, connection-level results." Connect with Shawn through the links below:Shawn's High Performance Sales Leadership Coaching Program: https://www.shawnbuxton.com/Email: shawn@shawnbuxton.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shawnbuxton/ About Josh Wagner: Josh is a growth advisor and the host of the Love Selling Hate Sales podcast. Introduction: Host Michael Rand is disturbed by the latest Byron Buxton injury news on a couple of fronts. First, the fact that he had to leave Monday's game with hip soreness is a bad sign for the Twins as they try to hang around in the American League Central race. Second, if the Twins haven't been forthright about all of Buxton's injury problems this season they aren't doing anyone a favor. 9:00: Star Tribune Vikings writer Andrew Krammer joins Rand to dissect the Monday trade for quarterback Nick Mullens. Though nothing is official in the depth chart, Mullens presumably will be the No. 2 quarterback behind Kirk Cousins, ending an underwhelming camp battle between second-year QB Kellen Mond and veteran Sean Mannion. 26:00: Speaking of QBs, Tom Brady is back while Aaron Rodgers is still being himself.

This episode is brought to you by Mitopure, InsideTracker, and Rupa Health. The topic of veganism is hotly debated in terms of health and environmental stewardship. But how did the idea that being vegan is the best way to eat for our bodies and the planet develop in the first place? The answer is more complex than you might think. On this episode of The Doctor's Farmacy, Jayne Buxton challenges the notion that veganism is the cure for disease and climate change and explains how we got here. A British-Canadian, Jayne Buxton is an author of both fiction and non-fiction. She spent fifteen years doing research-intensive work as a management consultant for a major firm before writing her 1998 book, Ending the Mother War: Starting the Workplace Revolution, which explored the entrenched positions and false choices faced by women wanting to combine motherhood with careers. Jayne subsequently spent years working in the field of work-life balance, advising both parents and corporations, before turning to writing full time. Teaching pastor Shawn brings us through a new perspective on the story of Job, with this prayer: "If nothing else, I want you to hear this: it is okay to lay your questions and frustrations at God's doorstep. And while it may be deeply uncomfortable, it is okay to sit in the mystery and silence of unanswered questions. God offers stability that is rooted in faith, a peace unshakable despite the maelstrom we might find ourselves in. Peace exists even in the midst of intense suffering. God is in the whirlwind. "

Dan is away and so Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson fills in with David as the boys discuss the Twins three game series against the San Diego Padres. Hoges is upset that Rocco didn't let Sonny Gray go deeper in his start and David is upset that Rocco waited one batter too long to pull Dylan Bundy from his. The guys both praise Buxton who looks to be at 100% and carried the team offensively in this series. David wants to know if we'll ever see Sano wear a Twins jersey again, and Hoges is dying to know if the Twins will make any moves at the deadline, knowing that any moves will not be cheap. Hoges takes his shots at David and Dan for not being optimistic enough about the Twins chances to make a run in the post season this year, and he's lost all respect for David due to David's lack of enjoyment of musicals. The boys finish up making their picks for the upcoming Tigers series. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins! Music: "Minnesota Twins Theme" (1961) written by Ray Charles and Dick Wilson. In her twenty years as a published author, Jayne Buxton (MBA, MA) has written on a wide variety of subjects. Her work includes short and long-form fiction, journalism, and two works of non-fiction, Ending the Mother War: Starting the Workplace Revolution and her most recent book, The Great Plant-Based Con. Like Ending the Mother War, The Great Plant-Based Con challenges the dominant narrative about an important issue and proposes a compelling alternative perspective. Prior to her writing career Jayne spent fifteen years working as a management consultant and entrepreneur. Her experience in research and data analytics and her deep understanding of the drivers of corporate behaviour underpins much of the analysis found in The Great Plant-Based Con. While Byron Buxton started the series with a leadoff home run, there wasn't much else for the Twins to cheer for, as, for the first time since May, they play a series and fail to win a game. The Brewers had little trouble against troubled Twins starters Dylan Bundy and Chris Archer, leading David and Dan to wonder: Who exactly is going to start for this team the rest of the season? They discuss Buxton's contributions to the team after missing the last series due to an injection in his knee, and they dive into the excellence of Jose Miranda and the ineptitude of the Twins' pitching in general. They ask about how much Wes Johnson's departure has hurt that pitching staff, while they also laugh a bit about Juan Soto's contract situation with the Washington Nationals. (3:59)  The two exchange stories of various attacks on social media that they both receive. (15:15) Vinnie and Jayne also discuss how the vegan argument has changed over time from animal welfare into an environmental issue. (21:50) They chat about mixed messages and misinformation; as a result, Jayne says the misinformation leads to a "mirage of a solution." (37:20) Vinnie reviews some of the history that lead up to the current dietary guidelines and how politics was involved, as discussed in Fat: A Documentary. (44:45) Jayne and Vinnie also chat about people being persuaded to "jump on the bandwagon." (54:35) Big Food businesses have interests in things like fake meat.  Vinnie talks more about the environmental impact of creating and shipping fake meat.  Jayne says the vegan movement has actually muddied up its own argument by pushing false information. (1:06:15) Vinnie asks Jayne her purpose behind the book, and the audience it was written for. (1:15:10) Vinnie and Jayne agree that the problem comes from politicians being pushed to make it into law.(1:23:30) [the_ad id="20253"] PURCHASE BEYOND IMPOSSIBLE The documentary launched on January 11!
