Fresh from celebrating their triumphant 20th anniversary in 2025, Thornbridge can reflect on another year of growth and evolution. And in 2026, beer fans can expect a raft of new beers including a number of fresh releases from its celebrated Union system. So as we gear up for another 12 months of beautiful beer, let’s take a look back at our conversation with brewery co-founder Simon Webster from this time last year ahead of what prove to be a fantastic period for the Bakewell business. There are certain joys, certain constants when it comes to the world of beer. And one of those has to be the pleasure when scanning the bar for a pint and you happen across the pump clip for Jaipur on cask. It's a seminal beer that has stood the test of time and this year the brewery responsible, Thornbridge, based in the Derbyshire Dales, celebrates the 20th anniversary of both that beer and the business, too. The Thornbridge story began back in 2005 when founders Jim Harrison and Simon Webster recruited two young brewers to brew on a second hand 10-barrel kit in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. A journey that began in the small Stonemasons Workshop at Thornbridge Hall is one that has gone on to grow into the Riverside Brewery in Bakewell where the team produce some nine million pints of beer each year. Like any good business, the brewery has moved with the times. While Jaipur remains the flagship, its gluten-free Helles Lukas and Green Mountain, a 4.3% Hazy Session IPA, also account for a significant amount of the brewery's production. Thanks to a brewing team led by Ben Wood, Dominic Driscoll and Rob Lovatt, they create beers that cater for a wide and diverse audience. So as the celebrated brewery embarks on a year that will toast two decades in business, we caught up with co-founder Simon Webster to discuss the Thornbridge journey. We look at the recent fantastic new addition of a Burton Union set, why collaborations continue to play a key part in the brewery's proposition and, with new pub openings on the horizon, why Simon believes that such environments remain the best choice when it comes to enjoying a beer.

It was the uncapped Indian players who stole the spotlight with franchises spending large amounts of money on raw potential, so the team debate raw talent versus experience and why all-rounders are so sought after. Ever wonder how a diamond actually gets from deep in the earth… to a jeweler's case… to her hand? Part II of Andy's conversation with Ari Jain from House of Diamonds uncovers the real, behind-the-scenes process of how natural diamonds are mined, cut, graded, and selected — long before a consumer ever sees them. If you've ever held a diamond and thought, "Why does this tiny thing cost so much?" This episode gives you an honest, insider explanation. Ari's eight-generation lineage, starting in Jaipur's royal courts, brings a rare perspective on craftsmanship, authenticity, and what truly determines a diamond's value. What You'll Learn in This Episode: How a natural diamond gets to the showcase: The full journey — mining, sorting, rough planning, cutting, polishing, grading, and wholesale — and why each step matters for quality and value. Why two diamonds with the same certificate can be totally different: The human decisions, artistry, and limitations of grading systems that make every stone unique. What "value" in a diamond really means: How to look beyond price and paper to find a stone worth owning. The role of independent jewelers: Why reputable independents reject most stones they see, and how that benefits you as a buyer. How reputation drives the diamond industry: From miners to cutters to retailers, the best people only work with those they trust. Why a diamond should be personal, not perfect: Meaning, story, and character matter more than flawless specs. Key Quotes from Ari: "The consumer only sees the final diamond in the case. They never see the hundreds of hours and decisions that came before it." "A lower-color stone or a stone with visible inclusions can actually be more beautiful. It gives the diamond identity." "Reputation is the most valuable currency in the diamond industry." "When you buy from an independent jeweler, you're getting accountability — and someone who actually cares." "Jewelry isn't just financial. It centers you. It makes you feel something. That's worth paying for." Why This Episode Matters for Engagement Ring Buyers: If you're shopping for an engagement ring — or weighing natural vs. lab-grown — this episode will help you avoid: misunderstanding diamond pricing relying too much on certificates choosing the wrong stone based on specs alone falling for "perfect" stones that look average in person overlooking diamonds with true personality and beauty Understanding the journey of a natural diamond will help you appreciate what you're really buying — and why no two stones are ever the same. Who Is Ari Jain? Ari is part of an eight-generation jewelry legacy originating in Jaipur's royal courts. Today, he's a key member of House of Diamonds, a New York–based natural diamond firm focused on authenticity, transparency, and ethical sourcing. He represents a new generation blending heritage with modern insight. This episode cuts through all the noise, hype, and half-truths in the diamond world.   Part I of Andy's conversation with Ari from House of Diamonds (an eight-generation diamond expert with roots in Jaipur's royal gemstone trade) dives into the emotional, spiritual, and practical realities of buying a natural diamond — from the meaning behind natural stones to why warmer colors are making a comeback.   If you're a guy trying to buy the right stone for the woman you love, this episode will calm the nerves and sharpen your instincts. What You'll Learn in This Episode: The story behind natural diamonds: Why Ari calls them "nature's greatest masterpiece," and why the story matters Natural vs. lab-grown — the truth: Is one "better"? Or are consumers being pushed in the wrong direction? Why J-color or K-color natural diamonds might be your best choice: How guys are saving thousands by choosing warmer stones with real character The spiritual side of diamonds: Yes, energy is real — and Ari has the stories to back it up How to choose a jeweler you can trust: Why independent jewelers beat mass-market retailers every time Key Quotes from Ari: "Natural diamonds are nature's greatest artwork — billions of years old. When a man is making a sacred bond with a woman, he should give her something rare, real, and born of the earth." "People have been preferring warmer color diamonds. They want G to J color because they want to show it's natural." "The jeweler you buy from matters more than the certificate. Trust the person who does this every day." "The world has become too financial and not personal enough. Jewelry is still personal — it's emotional. And that matters." Natural vs. Lab-Grown (The Real Difference): Natural diamonds: Billions of years old, finite supply Hold value over time due to rarity Carry emotional and symbolic weight Can be passed down with a real story Lab-grown diamonds: Created in weeks in a factory Unlimited supply, depreciating value Chemically identical, but no origin story Ari's take: "When a man is making a sacred bond with a woman, he should give her something rare, real, and born of the earth." The Warmer Diamond Secret: Warmer natural diamonds (J, K, L color) are becoming more desirable because they have character and look distinctly natural. They're significantly less expensive than colorless stones and look beautiful in yellow gold or vintage settings. Ari's insight: "People are calling me for three-carat-plus stones, but they don't want G color. They'll pay me more for J to K color." Why Independent Jewelers Matter: Ari's take: "I think all consumers should prioritize independent retailers. The owners are always in the store. They care about the store. That shows you the owner actually cares about it." The difference: Independent jewelers build lifelong relationships They have accountability — reputation is everything They personalize and customize jewelry Mass-market retailers only push profit, not education or trust Who Is Ari? Ari is part of an eight-generation gemstone and diamond family whose roots trace back to Jaipur's royal courts. Today, his company House of Diamonds specializes in natural diamonds, rare color stones, and ethical sourcing. Over the years, I have demoed quite a lot of games at a few different locations. It all started back in 2019 at Essen Spiel, where I demoed Fog of Love to the German audience. More recently, I have been demoing for Asmodee at UK Games Expo, as well as at my local board game cafe. With every demo, I have honed my skills, learned new tricks and generally fine-tuned my approach. So in this article, I want to share my demoing method, which can also be applied to teaching games in many ways.Read the full article here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/11/11/demonstrative-board-gaming-my-approach-to-demoing-games-topic-discussion/Useful LinksPost-show blues article: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2019/11/05/post-show-blues/Wingspan review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2019/03/16/wingspan/Jaipur review: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2020/02/29/jaipur-saturday-review/MusicIntro Music: Bomber (Sting) by Riot (https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/)Music I use: Bensound.comLicense code: O9I3JPK9A8LBOPOEArtist: : Nick PetrovRoyalty Free Music: Bensound.comLicense code: AJRN7V3CQYPGMCHXArtist: : Nick PetrovSupportIf you want to support this podcast financially, please check out the links below:Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/TabletopGamesBlogPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/tabletopgamesblogWebsite: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/support/

When we come to see Kṛṣṇa and He glances on us and we see His beautiful form, then we are looking at the ultimate object of meditation. If we drive through Jaipur, we'll see many signboards, and everyone's trying to catch our attention to look at something. Maybe there's Coca-Cola, and they have a picture of some attractive-looking person drinking sugar water. They are not going to look so good in a few years, I guarantee you. And they are hoping that that will catch our attention and we'll say, "Okay, I would like to look like that." And everywhere we look, there's something for our eyes to fall upon. So the perfection of the eyes is to come and see Kṛṣṇa in the temple, and then chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. And these two things together—coming and seeing Kṛṣṇa, worshiping Kṛṣṇa, ringing the bell, bowing down, offering flowers, and chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa—these are like two tracks on a train track. And where does the train go? Straight back to Goloka Vṛndāvana. So we are all on that train right now. Just look around—all the compartments are not even filled. We can put more people on this train! And the way the train goes, you load everybody on, and the way the train goes, you go see Kṛṣṇa, and then you chant, Hare Kṛṣṇa. And then the train takes you back home, back to God, and you forget about all the Coca-Cola signs in the world and all the clamor here in the material world. It's Much Ado About Nothing. There's nothing really going on in the material world that is of interest to the soul whatsoever. It's a big fake out. So we have this opportunity together that's quite exhilarating. Don't you think? We could do this for days! Yes, we could do it for months! ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #kartikimmersionretreat #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------

Who's Rupa Goswami? We're known as Rūpānugas, followers of Rūpa Goswāmī. In the spiritual world. He has an intimate connection with Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa as a mañjarī. He's known as Rūpa Mañjarī, but here in this world, he shows very practically how we can perform the nine items of devotional service and water the seed of devotion, just as Lord Caitanya had taught, and we can have success in this life. To achieve that end, Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who is his spiritual master and preceptor, taught him all about how to worship the Deity. And you'll find in Caitanya-caritāmṛta that Lord Caitanya gives instruction to Sanātana Goswāmī exactly how to establish a Deity, how to worship the Deity. He asked Sanātana Goswāmī, who is the brother of Rūpa Goswāmī, to write the entire chapter on Deity worship, and who teaches it? Kṛṣṇa. He tells about the different forms of the Deity you can worship. There are Deities from metal, wood, stone, jewels, paint, and in your mind. You can make a deity out of earth, and so forth. And then he tells the exact process, and that process has been passed down also through great sages like Nārada. Because of Nārada, we have the Nārada Pañcarātra, and we have the Pāñcarātrikī vidhi, which is the rules and regulations of how to worship Kṛṣṇa in the Deity form. So this was part of the process of bhakti-yoga, to worship the Deity, and Rūpa Goswāmī worshiped Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Govinda according to the instructions of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. And here in Jaipur, they still follow that system. So it's part of our Gauḍīya family tradition to come here and see Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Govinda and remember Rūpa Goswāmī. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #kartikimmersionretreat #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Closing out What the Hell's summer book series, we offer a timely reminder of the value of free speech and critical thinking from a time when it wasn't taken for granted. Charlie English discusses his book, The CIA Book Club: The Secret Mission to Win the Cold War with Forbidden Literature (Random House, 2025). Charlie chronicles George Minden's 1980s covert intelligence operation that smuggled literature into Poland from beyond the Iron Curtain. From its Manhattan headquarters, Minden's “book club” secretly sent ten million banned titles into the East and combated communist censorship, creating a vibrant culture in Poland that would outlast the toppled Soviet regime. What is the value of printed word in our society? Can ideas beat out on the battlefield? Charlie reminds us they can.Charlie English is a London-based non-fiction writer and the author of three internationally acclaimed books. He has appeared on NPR, the BBC and Channel 4, written for numerous newspapers and magazines including the New York Times, the Guardian, the Telegraph and the Independent, and given talks at Hay, Jaipur and the Royal Geographical Society, where he is a fellow.
