Aotearoa's craft beer industry is hoping for a profitable summer as it continues to wrestle with high brewing costs. A fourth craft beer business has hit major financial trouble this week as importer and distributor Beertique is in liquidation. It follows Deep Creek, which is also in liquidation, and Brothers Beer which is in voluntary administration. Meanwhile beer fans say they're finding it harder to afford their favourite crafties, as the cost of living bites. Felix Walton has more. Note: Epic brewery was in liquidation but is now under new ownership.

Italy is best known for their culinary and wine traditions that extend thousands of years, not beer. But that's the point. Imagine what they can do when they include great beer. My next guest guides us to that inflection point when good beer meets a culture known for its flavor. I'm fortunate to have enjoyed the Italian dining experience. The preparation, the slow cooking, the attention to flavor, and long conversations that last for hours. These are special occasions… the memorable experiences that somehow change the trajectory of our lives for the better. I invite you to gather your loved ones and experience the same. We find great experiences at the intersection of craft and culture. These are the stories of us, of great food and the beer that brings it all together. For the Craft and Culture of Beer, this is episode 140 of Good Beer Matters with Editor of the Italian Beer Guide, Luca Giaccone. "When we first started out, it was a very good beer. It was a very good beer for nomadic types On soft summer nights. We'd try specialty flights paired with pub food bites, In our very First Year." - Adapted from Frank Sinatra's "It was a Very Good Year" We brake for microbreweries. Locally owned breweries are a safe place to enjoy the ancient elixir and make new friends. The neighborhood brewery is an unofficial visitor information center. Most are owned and operated by long-term residents who name the brews after the local lore, claims to fame and natural wonders. People love to talk about their hometown - especially over a beer. Over a beer, people are more likely to open up and share their deepest insider secrets about the best places to see, eat and shop. Here is a list and photos of the 259 breweries we have visited since we started traveling full-time in July 2016. The post It Was A Very Good Beer appeared first on Living In Beauty.

Mark takes us through the boom in Florida, the soaring popularity of Cigar City and Funky Buddha, and what makes the FL beer landscape so unique. In a similar manner, Jeremy Storton has loved beer all his life, and expresses it all in conversations on the Good Beer Matters podcast. Jeremy worked in hospitality for many years, in high-end restaurant and local brewery environments, and decided to take his love for the industry to the next level with an Advanced Cicerone certification. The beer world continues to morph and become a more inclusive space. There are too many people involved in that evolution to name here, but one person doing a lot of good for the beer world is Michele Wonder. Michele got her start in beer as a homebrewer and quickly got involved in organizations like the Pink Boots Society and The Oregon Brew Crew. She has contributed to the beer world in many positive ways. She is a co-founder and social media director for the Women's Craft Fermentation Alliance. Also a co-founder of WIBS: a craft fermentation summit (formerly Women's International Beer Summit), and Founder of the Black is Beautiful Homebrew PDX Brewing Project. She joins the show to share her story and how her work has evolved over the years. We dive into how beer is a community and how much it can be a cultural touchstone. And how we can work together to break down barriers in beer to be a more inclusive space. Beer styles are a bit polarizing. They are sometimes viewed as rules brewers ought to follow or information reserved for the elite. In this presentation, Jeremy and Julia will share that styles are meant to serve, not separate, and that everyone should develop their own sense of beer style. Once upon a time Jeremy Storton didn't know the difference between an ESB and an IPA. Now he's an Advanced Cicerone®, IBD certified brewer, BJCP judge, beer educator, freelance mixed-media content producer, and an award-winning beer writer and host of the Good Beer Matters Podcast. He recently moved back to the Northwest to thoroughly research post outdoor activity beer pairings. Julia Herz is executive director of the American Homebrewers Association® (AHA)—the nation's largest hobbyist not for profit organization for homebrewers and fermented beverages. Good beer matters. At least we think so. Actually a lot of people think so, but why? And why should we learn about why good beer matters? Because beer is about more than just the beer. It's about talking across the aisles, listening to opinions, learning how to take criticism, and learning all along the way. Wait? Are we talking about beer or life? Both. And that is exactly what matters to Jeremy Storton.Meet Jeremy from Good Beer Matters.Anyone who has ever taught anything knows that the more you teach, the more you learn. Jeremy Storton, host of the award winning podcast, Good Beer Matters, is doing just that. Once a classroom teacher, he took his love for education and transitioned it into his passion for craft beer. Along the way he learned that he could help guide others in their search for passion in both beer and life. Beer after all, in Jeremy's words, “is full of craft and culture, and he wants to help you get to the bottom of it." And that is exactly what we attempt to do in our conversation with Jeremy - get to the bottom of it, and learn more about why good beer matters. Through stories about his beginnings with craft beer, we've confirmed our suspicions that Jeremy has a passion for all things beer, but more importantly, he has a passion for sharing his insights and knowledge gained while on his quest to figure out his place in the world. And while that is about craft beer, it runs so much deeper than that. Beer became a way for him to relate to people and the world. "The world of beer is vast and wonderful and there is more out there to explore."For the complete set of show notes, click here.Connect with Us:The Craft Beer Travel & Adventure Podcast is hosted by Living a Stout Life, where we share stories, community, and resources for all your craft beer travel and adventure lifestyle needs. We would absolutely love it if you subscribe to the podcast and leave us a review.
