A Note from James:So I've been doing this podcast for a long time—over 1500 episodes—and I've spoken to everyone from billionaires to best-selling authors, athletes to entrepreneurs. But there are a handful of episodes that still ring in my ears years later. One of them was Episode 156 with Gary Vaynerchuk.I was just re-listening to it while pulling together notes for a potential book, and I realized this conversation is timeless. It's not about hype. It's about freedom. Gary's blueprint—learn, build, create community, stay self-aware—is the real deal. No shortcuts. No tricks. Just pure, actionable wisdom. Whether you're 23 or 53, if you're serious about building the life you want, this one's worth a listen.Send it to your kids. Your friends. Your future self. Thanks again for listening.Episode Description:In this re-release of one of the most downloaded episodes of The James Altucher Show, James sits down with Gary Vaynerchuk just before the release of his book #AskGaryVee. What unfolds is a candid, highly tactical conversation about business, content creation, self-awareness, and the true meaning of entrepreneurship.Gary breaks down his framework for success—from selling wine via YouTube in the early 2000s to launching VaynerMedia and investing in Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. He also explains why patience, practicality, and micro-failure are essential ingredients for long-term freedom. This isn't motivational fluff. It's the strategy, mindset, and playbook of someone who's been in the trenches—and is still hungry. What You'll Learn:Why "entrepreneurship" is really just a path to freedom—not fast cashHow Gary made (and learned from) multiple startup failures in 2009Why content marketing is about sincerity, not SEO hacksHow to test new business ideas through arbitrage—like flipping Jets gear on AmazonA tactical breakdown of self-awareness (and how to get it from people you trust)Timestamped Chapters:[00:00] Leisure vs. Freedom: What You're Really Trading[01:00] Recommending Competitors as a Sales Tactic[03:00] Early YouTube, Wine Library, and ROI Before Social Was “Social”[06:00] Entrepreneurship vs. Lifestyle Marketing[08:00] Ego, Confidence, and What Scares Gary Vee[10:00] The Trainwreck Year: 2009 and Four Failed Startups[12:00] Experiments, Micro-Failures, and Million-Dollar Misses[14:00] Offense vs. Defense in Business[15:00] Building Trust Through Sincerity in Content[18:00] Self-Awareness: Gary's Most Important Entrepreneurial Trait[22:00] The Real Numbers: What It Means to Be in the 1%[25:00] Leisure Costs More Than You Think[29:00] Why Gary Loves Losing and Chasing More Than Winning[34:00] The Self-Awareness Dinner Party Hack[38:00] Redefining Success: From $213K to $87K and Happy[42:00] Clouds and Dirt: Finding Your North Star and Executing in the Weeds[43:00] The Arbitrage Blueprint: eBay to Amazon[47:00] Community Building Through Twitter and Micro-Engagement[49:00] Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook (And What People Get Wrong About It)[52:00] Avoiding Negative Energy in Business and Relationships[54:00] Tactical Social Media Growth: Commenting, Listening, Engaging[56:00] Scaling Beyond Arbitrage: Events, Podcasts, ProductsAdditional Resources:#AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur's Take on Leadership, Social Media, and Self-Awareness (Amazon)Gary Vaynerchuk's TwitterWine Library TV ArchivesVaynerMediaDailyVee on YouTubeOur Sponsors:Pack up and go even further with the Defender 110. ~A follow-up to “Permission to Pause” If you've ever stepped away to “rest” but came back feeling just as drained, this episode is for you. In this powerful follow-up to Permission to Pause, we name and unpack a concept that deeply resonated with listeners: contaminated leisure — the kind of downtime that looks like rest but still carries the weight of responsibility, guilt, and multitasking. And naming it matters. Because once we recognize what's happening, we can begin to reclaim the kind of rest that actually restores. This episode dives deep into:  What contaminated leisure really is  The neuroscience behind why it's so exhausting  Why ambitious women are especially affected  What the research says about emotional labor and the “leisure gap”  How to reclaim rest as a biological, psychological, and cultural necessity If rest has ever felt like another item on your to-do list, tune in.  In This Episode, You'll Learn: The origins of the term contaminated leisure and how it shows up in everyday life Why “just relaxing” often doesn't work — and how pseudo-recovery tricks our brains How true rest activates the Default Mode Network (DMN), the brain's key to meaning-making, emotional regulation, and creativity How internalized expectations and the "casualty of competence" leave ambitious women especially vulnerable to burnout Five science-backed strategies to create space for real, uncontaminated rest Manifestatement: Rest doesn't make you less ambitious, it makes your ambition sustainable. #ContaminatedLeisure #RestIsResistance #AmbitiousWomen #PermissionToPause References   Bianchi, S. What the New Tax Bill Means for Cross-Border Portfolios

Our Global Head of Fixed Income Research and Public Policy Strategy Michael Zezas reads the fine print of U.S. tax legislation to understand how it might affect foreign companies operating in the U.S. and foreign investors holding U.S. debt.Read more insights from Morgan Stanley.----- Transcript -----Welcome to Thoughts on the Market. I'm Michael Zezas, Global Head of Fixed Income Research and Public Policy Strategy. Today we're talking about a proposal tucked away in U.S. tax legislation that could impact investors in meaningful ways: Section 899.It's Wednesday, June 11th, at 12 pm in New York. So, Section 899 is basically a new rule that's part of a bigger bill that passed the House. It would give the U.S. Treasury the power to hit back with taxes on foreign companies if they think other countries are unfairly taxing U.S. businesses. And this rule could override existing tax agreements between countries, even applying to government funds and pension plans. The immediate concern is whether foreign holdings of U.S. bonds would be taxed – something that's not entirely clear in the draft language. Making the costs of ownership higher would affect holders of tens of trillions of U.S. securities. That includes about 25 percent of the U.S. corporate bond market. In short, the concern is that this would disincentivize ownership of U.S. bonds by overseas investors, creating extra costs or risk premium – meaning higher yields. The good news is that there's a decent chance the Senate will tweak or clarify Section 899. Consider the evidence that the motive of those who drafted this provision doesn't seem to have been to tax fixed income securities. If it was, you'd expect the official estimates of how much tax revenue this provision would generate to be far higher than what was scored by Congress. Public comments by Senators seem to mirror this, signaling changes are coming. But while that might mitigate one acute risk associated with 899, other risks could linger. If the provision were enacted, it acts as an extra cost on foreign multinationals investing in building businesses in the U.S. That means weaker demand for U.S. dollars overall. So while this is not at the core of our FX strategy team's thesis on why the dollar weakens further this year, it does reinforce the view. For European equities, our equity strategy team flags that Section 899 adds a whole new layer of worry on top of the tariff concerns everyone's been talking about. While people have been focused on European goods exports to the U.S., Section 899 could affect a much broader range of European companies doing business in America. The most vulnerable sectors include Business Services, Healthcare, Travel & Leisure, Media, and Software – basically, any European company with significant U.S. business. The bottom line, even if modified, if section 899 stays in the bill and is enacted, there's key ramifications for the U.S. dollar and European stocks. But pay careful attention in the coming days. The provision could be jettisoned from the Senate bill. It's still possible that it's too big of a law change to comply with the Senate's budget reconciliation procedure, and so would get thrown out for reasons of process, rather than politics. We'll be tracking it and keep you in the loop. Thanks for listening. If you enjoy Thoughts on the Market please leave us a review. And tell your friends. We want everyone to listen.

Leisure skills, unlike developmental play, support lifelong engagement, independence, and quality of life, whether it's crochet, reading, or structured hobbies. In this discussion, we explore how play skills evolve across ages and how ABA programs can support that progression. We outline the typical stages of play, from exploratory and functional play in toddlers to pretend, constructive, and rule-based games in older kids. We discuss why using outdated play activities (like blocks or shape sorters) with older learners can be problematic and highlight the importance of transitioning to leisure skills as children mature, especially for teens and adults. We also touch on strategies for teaching play, including sensory-social routines, modeling, and focusing on student motivation. What's Inside:How to use ABA programs to support play through the agesIssues with using outdated play activities with older learnersStrategies to use when teaching playMentioned In This Episode:HowToABA.com/joinHow to ABA on YouTubeFind us on FacebookFollow us on Instagram
