Darkness Radio presents: The Crying Tree and the Magic Rock: More Paranormal Tales From Psychic/Medium/Author, John Russell! Do you believe that trees can communicate their feelings by...crying? Is it possible that rocks can communicate with us by writing messages to us on their surfaces? Can our beloved deceased pets return from the dead—in the flesh—to visit with us and assure us that their souls live on? John Russell's fourth book, The Crying Tree and the Magic Rock, is a collection of mind-blowing true tales of the supernatural. "What sets John Russell apart is his ability to blend his personal experiences with broader paranormal theories, offering his readers a firsthand look at psychic phenomena. His accounts are not just stories; they are experiences lived and shared, from eerie ghost encounters to life-saving messages delivered by guardian angels." Return with John to his youth, and ride along in the darkness while he runs his paper route on his bicycle and encounters a hair-raising and frightening otherworldly event. Was it Dogman? A Werewolf? Bigfoot? An angry ghost? On today's show, John tells some of these stories from his past and the book, shares his opinions on becoming closer with Nature, UFO/UAP's, Abundance Ministries, and the phenomenon of Artificial Intelligence! IPAs. We love to hate them. We love to love them. It's fair to say that the darling of modern beer has, over the past 10 or 20 years, been discussed to death. But we felt there was life in the old dog yet. That's why at FyneFest earlier this year we hosted a panel discussion to talk about the present and future of the IPA with two breweries who are pushing the envelope as far as this category is concerned.Matt Dutton is the head brewer at Manchester's Track Brewing, one of the innovators at the forefront when it comes to utilising the latest hop technology. Coming from a background as an award-winning homebrewer, Matt has led the brewing team at Track for the past eight years, and is in charge of ensuring every pint of Sonoma, Half Dome, or whatever weekly special happens to be pouring at their taproom tastes as good as it possibly can.We know Track means business too, as we brewed one of our fifth anniversary beers with them, a resolutely modern IPA that we called Optimism Forever. This provided a perfect stepping off point for us to chat about how modern brewing techniques and technology are ensuring there's still plenty of ground to cover when it comes to experimentation and flavour within the IPA category. Our second panelist is Vik Stronge, who long time Pellicle Podcast listeners might remember from previous episodes where she appeared as strategy manager of Huddersfield's Magic Rock Brewery. Since then Vik has moved on from Magic Rock, teaming up with her husband and experienced brewer to form their own brewery: Lost Cause. With both Vik and Colin's extremely high brewing pedigree you'd expect greatness out of the gate from these two, and that's exactly what we've been served so far. During this panel Vik discusses the use of new hop varieties and how they are helping Lost Cause to define itself as a brewery. We taste its IPA, Love You, Bye, which is hopped with a recently developed proprietary hop variety from Indie Hops in Oregon, USA, that tastes like cloudy lemonade on a hot summer's day. It's vibrant, electric and proof positive that there's plenty of exciting hop flavours still out there for us drinkers to experience and enjoy. All of which is discussed in this podcast episode. We're able to produce The Pellicle Podcast directly thanks to our Patreon subscribers, and our sponsors Loughran Brewers Select. On this episode of the Scouting For Growth podcast, Sabine VdL talks to Emanuel Rose, CEO of Strategic eMarketing, who has led numerous successful marketing campaigns for companies through authentic storytelling and direct-response advertising. On today's episode, Emanuel will share insights on differentiation and humanisation strategies for startups. Scaleups and captive insurance companies. We'll explore best practices around targeting, testing messaging, and scaling for growth. We also talk about why startups founders must focus on becoming social CEOs. Emanuel will also discuss key lessons from his book on how solitude in nature can benefit mental health, leadership, and creativity. KEY TAKEAWAYS AI is a tool of marketing and, like all tools, it has to be deployed correctly and with the intent of the campaign and the focus of the brand. It's complicated to use, but I think it's amazing, I love it, it's forever changed my marketing. At this point in time, it still takes a human to drive it, though that might be different in time. As marketers, we're taking and identifying a problem and from that we come up with a solution, which is what we're selling, and maybe agitating it a little bit, triggering people and offering a call to action. I like to make it as frictionless as possible which I think has become lost in digital marketing, since the internet we're back to pop-ups and interruption trying to get email addresses and phone numbers. I think that's a huge mistake that doesn't build long-term brand value and makes everything transactional rather than client based. The negative side of AI is there's a lot of “spray and pray” happening instead of starting with your ideal client profile, finding some people who fit it, understanding what their needs are, and developing a conversation and qualifying that person to your service/product and yourself to that person. The relationship is what people are missing with this inauthentic rubbish. I want to encourage people to use tools that are organised around getting a lot of information from the prospects that they're talking to so that there is publicly known personal information from social profiles/blogs/other content they're written or participated in. This should be part of every AI tool you use, but then you need to do your own research, so when people are interested take a few minutes to see how that individual aligns with your ideal client profile. BEST MOMENTS ‘The difference between a client and a customer is that you care about the client and their concerns, whereas you're just doing business with a customer, it's just a transaction.'‘Interruption marketing has got to go away again because it's counterproductive.'‘We've forgotten that our job, as a service provider, is to serve our clients.'‘Make sure that you talk to people. If you're in a marketing department, get on sales calls and hear the answers for yourself, understand what the pain points are, and how you can feed better information into the model you're using.' This episode is slightly different than usual when it comes to its subject. However, working with technology by day and creating digital content by night, I spend substantial time thinking about and grappling with this subject. So when I learned that a long-term supporter and a friend of the podcast, Emanuel Rose, wrote a book about it, I decided to have him on for a chat. The subject in question is our unhealthy addiction to our phones (mostly) and other devices. Which in the not-so-long term results in a shortened attention span, inability to focus and all-around decrease in happiness and increase in anxiety. And that is not a good state of mind.In his book, “The 7 Principles of the Magic Rock: How Solitude in Nature Anchors Your Mental Health” Emanuel Rose suggests that unplugging and spending more time in nature is a perfect antidote to the aforementioned predicaments. In his succinct book, the author provides plenty of practical advice. It is rounded out with plentiful references to articles and peer-reviewed papers.Get "The 7 Principles of the Magic Rock": https://amzn.to/49ESu59Subscribe to Tommy's Outdoors: Conservation and Science NewsletterSupport the Podcast and Buy Me a Coffee.Recommended Books: tommysoutdoors.com/booksMerch: tommysoutdoors.com/shopFollow Tommy's Outdoors on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and FacebookTommy's Outdoors is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk

Paddy's is a popular bar in Malmö. The weekends are packed with young and old hanging out, listening to music and having beer. On a random Monday, it's not quite a busy, which means it's perfect for podcasting. They have a lot of taps but not always a creative selection. We picked out two of the more interesting options from the taps. Magic Rock High Wire Mandarin is a West Coast IPA with the addition of mandarin and oarnage blossom. Dugges Big Black Violet will be more divisive to beer drinkers outside of Scandanivan. It's a sour beer with liquorice and violet. It's an interesting beer but one that liquorice fans should enjoy. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #paddysmalmö #sourbeer #liquorice #magicrock #ipa
I want you to think a haunted location, go ahead, I'll wait… Got one in mind? Good. Now, some of you might be picturing an old mansion, creepy forest, or most likely a moonlit cemetery. While these are all excellent choices, would you ever suspect a convenient store as a likely place to encounter the supernatural.Tonight, I'll be talking about a case in Oregon where this is being reported, along with other experiences involving ghostly attachments, a loving father's spirit, a time warp, and a stone that grants wishes. Mental health is a seldom talked about subject within the brewing industry. Perhaps this is because the demographic working within brewing skews highly male, and men are infamous for often being unable to discuss this topic adequately. Thankfully, in more recent times, the discussion is becoming more open and more frequent—valuable indeed, considering how tumultuous the past couple of years have been on our minds, as well as our bodies. In this discussion recorded at FyneFest 2022, host Matthew Curtis is joined by Miranda Hudson of Duration Brewing, Vik Stronge of Magic Rock, and Dominic Driscoll of Thornbridge. The panel discusses a range of points within the subject of mental health, from setting boundaries within the workplace, to managing the mental health of our colleagues, employees and friends, as we try to make the beer industry a safer, friendlier place to work.CW: Topics discussed include depression and alcoholism. If you're struggling with your mental health we urge you not to suffer alone, and recommend contacting an organisation such as The Drinks Trust or The Samaritans for support.

Speaking of Katie Mather as both a peer, and as a friend, she is someone who continually impresses me. I first came across her work through her old blog, called The Snap and The Hiss, and was enamoured with her writing from the very first sentence. Since then she's gone from strength to strength, producing a series of wonderfully evocative articles, and taking on editorial roles both at new wine publication Glug and here at Pellicle.Having her on board as a regular contributor alone was a thrill, and if you read her pieces such as this one on the nostalgia of burger vans, or her epic taxonomy of the British bread roll (the most read feature we've ever published) you'll soon understand why. Taking her on as an associate editor deepened her connection to the work we publish. What editors do largely happens behind the curtain, but you can see her influence on pieces such as Josh Barrie's profile of a very special branch of Londis in North London, or in my own feature about Sheffield's Brewery of St. Mars of the Desert. We are so stoked to get to work with her, and can't wait to see what else she brings to our little magazine. But the depth of Katie's talents don't end there. In late 2019, she and her husband Tom finally got the keys to their bar, Corto. Based in their hometown of Clitheroe, situated in Lancashire's Ribble Valley, Corto is part of a new wave of bars slowly emerging within the United Kingdom. Inspired by the food and drink culture of Northern Spain, the bar merges the concepts of craft beer, natural wine, cider and delectable small plates into something that is far greater than the sum of its parts. I'm biased, but you should visit. You'll be planning your next trip there before you've got halfway through your first pint, or whatever's by the glass on that particular day.As a bonus, before the interview I dig into some of the bigger beer news that's occurred lately. From Monster acquiring the Canarchy collective of breweries in the United States, to Lion announcing it is to sell UK acquisitions Fourpure and Magic Rock, there's a lot to dig into. And that's before I take the chance to chew through the BBC's recent documentary on Scottish brewery BrewDog, and why I think its behaviour reflects badly on the entire British craft beer scene. It's a bumper episode, and I hope you enjoy listening. Don't forget to hit subscribe and leave a rating if you've got a second, as this will help more folks find the show. You might also see we've got a new logo thanks to our resident designer Tida Bradshaw. It felt like it was time to give the podcast a little spruce up, so we hope you like that.
