We have begun a new series on the Psalms, largest book of the Bible, maybe the most read part of the Bible, an important intersection between theology, life, and feelings. Psalms is where real issues are worked out with a real God. And in this great book, guess what the first word is? Happy. Let’s look at it, Psalm 1.

This week we are excited to kick off our “Summer in the Psalms” sermon series with Psalm 1. The psalmist identifies two ways people choose to live their life. He writes of, “The Way of the Word and The Way of the Wicked.” The question is how does one live out the way of the Word when our flesh drives us toward the way of the wicked? Join us this Sunday as we discover the powerful way the Lord allows His righteousness to be pursued

In this first sermon in this series of messages from the Psalms, we discover how Psalm 1 introduces us to the overall purpose of the Psalms: to reveal how God's instruction is the pathway to a life of blessing and abundance, of happiness and holiness. The psalmist presents two pathways we can chose to walk down--an ascending path that leads to the presence of God where we experience the abundant life Jesus promises, or the spiraling descent into depravity and corruption that ends in ruin. Which path are you walking?

In this sermon, Brian Durham gives us a glimpse of the good life that the psalmist describes for us. He explains how the good life is attainable and how one can get there through a relationship with God by His word in which He has revealed Himself and His ways. The person who is on the path of the good life experiences joy, stability and fruitfulness though they may also go through difficult times as well. The psalmist describes that person as a "tree planted by streams of waters" that bears fruit in season and flourishes in life.

Happiness comes from doing what is good and pleasing. Seek the Word of the Lord make it your desire and see if you are happy in the Lord.

I'll be happy when... I'll be happy when I'm finally finished with school. I'll be happy when we have a bigger apartment/house. I'll be happy when the kids are older and not so much work. And the list goes ON. Americans spend incredible amounts of time and energy trying to get happy or make themselves happy. And it often ends in disaster. Why? Because pursuing happiness NEVER results in being happy. In this message, Max Vanderpool makes a case for why the Psalmist exclaims "Happy is the man who..."
Be real...because fake is exhausting.
Guest speaker Rev. Ken Thurman leads us through an examination of Psalm 1, differentiating the way of the righteous and the way of the wicked.
We all want to be blessed, don’t we? This Psalm is known as the Wisdom Psalm and it is so practical in its examination of how to be blessed. It shows the contrast between what NOT to do to be blessed and the results of walking, standing or sitting in the wrong place with the wrong people with the wrong mindset. And if you follow it’s instruction, the results are miraculous. Take a moment to enjoy this short lesson in being blessed. You will be blessed!

The first Psalm stands like a gatekeeper calling every reader to consider the subject of Godliness. It asks us to consider the two options or roads we have to choose from in life.
God's Word is our trustworthy guide on His path of righteousness.
In this sermon Pastor Keith explains from Psalm 1 that the life of a godly person is a focused life that has it’s direction from God’s word, delight in God’s word and dominating influence from God’s word. Biblical meditation is an important element on the path of the godly. Here are a few ways biblical mediation is defined: Meditation is “deep thinking on the truths and spiritual realities revealed in Scripture for the purposes of understanding, application, and prayer” Donald Whitney, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life Meditation is the activity of calling to mind, and thinking over, and dwelling on, and applying to oneself, the various things that one knows about the works and ways and purposes and promises of God. It is the activity of holy thought, consciously performed in the presence of God, under the eye of God, by the help of God, as a means of communion with God. J.I. Packer, Knowing God Those who have deep roots in their relationship with God have learned the practice of biblical meditation. They are like a tree that is planted and rooted by streams of water.
