We all have people in our lives who are dealing with circumstances beyond our understanding. When someone we love is hurting, we often search for the right words or an explanation but sometimes the best thing we can do isn't explain their pain - it's to enter into their pain with them. Hardship is a part of life. Job discovered that pain can come unexpectedly, but difficult seasons also reveal what is really inside us. When life gets hard, our faith is tested and revealed. Job's friends started well. They showed up, sat with him, and their presence brought comfort. But eventually, their assumptions about Job's suffering turned comfort into condemnation. They tried to explain what they could not understand, and their words caused more pain. Graciously, Job's story doesn't end with hardship. God shows compassion and faithfulness as He rebukes Job's friends and ultimately restored Job. We may not always have the answers, but we can always choose to be present. Be the friend who stays.
