In 2022, hip hop artist and author Psalm-One spoke to us about the abuse and mistreatment she endured at the hands of Rhymesayers Entertainment, including artists on the label. This experience led her to write the book Her Word Is Bond: Navigating Hip Hop and Relationships In A Culture of Misogyny. It was recently announced that Atmosphere, a Rhymesayers Entertainment artist will be headlining the Minneapolis State Fair, which was attended by almost 2 million people in the summer of 2024. We are re-issuing this episode as a reminder that many artists are able to continue their careers without consequence or accountability, regardless of allegations.Visit Psalm's Website: https://www.psalmonelovesyou.com Check out her book: https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/1660-her-word-is-bondIf you have been on the receiving end of harm from someone: be it artist, venue owner, audience member, or someone else and would like to share your story on a future episode, please reach out to us at: thisisenoughpodcast@gmail.com Visit our website: https://www.thisisenoughpodcast.com Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/enough.podcastFind us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@enoughpodcastenough. is a feature on Bad Copy: https://thebadcopy.com
Tom Stiles Sunday Morning 3/2/25
Welcome to Grace in Focus radio. Today, Bob Wilkin and Ken Yates are answering a question about Psalm 1. Who is the author? What is the aim of it? Is it about Jesus Christ in any respect? How is the book of Psalms laid out? Are the superscriptions inspired? How did they get there? We
Psalm 1:1-3 NIV Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. On January 1st, I wrote these verses in my journal. I had in mind the women who are joining me in reading through Scripture this year (2025, you are welcome to join). I had myself in mind too. Maybe because it was the first day of the new year, I saw this as a great goal to set — to be planted by streams of living water. And then I realized, more than a goal - this is a promise. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:3 This is my hope for us all, no matter the year, that our roots would go deeper and our faith grow stronger. I will end the episode with the song "Psalm One" from Scripture Songs Volume 1. We know it's spelled "summer," but we couldn't resist :) Psalms is one of the most beloved parts of Bible. As we wind our way through this deep well of wisdom, literature, praises, prayers, and questions, we're reminded of the wide array of human emotion that the writers experienced. The psalms can even give us glimpses of Jesus. As we look at Psalm 1 today, we find some valuable life lessons about friendship, character, and doing things God's way.

We're back! This week the boys sit down with one of the best Psalm One (@psalmone) for a long overdue episode covering every corner of music. Psalm breaks down the touring impact Covid has had on artists and shares insight on her book Her Word Is Bond. We talk about the bandcamp appreciation and streaming revenues in general before discussing her newest album The Returrn Of Bigg Perrm! We were so grateful for Psalm to share time with us and absolutely look forward to another visit from hip hop royalty. In this week's sermon, we close out our series on Psalm 1 with Psalm 1:5-6, from guest pastor Tom Remple. Tom speaks on choosing life and staying rooted in God's Word. We see two fruits: the enduring tree and the forgotten chaff; two destinies: forever separation and forever blessing; and two responses: a life invested and a life wasted. May we flee from the gradual creep of sin's normalcy and choose the path of life!
Do we treat the Christian life as something that's just a "little different" than life without God? As co-lead pastor Ricky continues through Psalm 1:3-4 this Sunday, we learn that the blessed life and the wicked life are as contradicting as a tree planted next to water and chaff in the wind. Because Christ is in our lives, our position, what we produce and our perseverance are all changed. Don't be fooled that life in God is just a subtle difference—it is the ultimate difference.
This week, our church family dives into studying Psalm One! For the next three weeks, we're encouraging the people of Citylight South Church to memorize Psalm 1:1-6 together. Every week, we will recite the Scripture together and study the Psalm in depth.Yesterday, pastor Alex looked at Psalm 1:1-2: "The Blessed Life." We learn that the blessed life is the one that dwells with God. May we delight in the Lord and delight to spend time with him by meditating on his Word! When hardship strikes, what does your mind automatically go to? By focusing on the Lord, our hearts can delight in returning to him.

Psalm One is a dope, experienced, independent rapper from Chicago who I just love. Her most recent album, Bigg Perrm, is one of my favorites of the year. She's also an author! Her first book is a memoir, Her Word Is Bond: Navigating Hip Hop and Relationships in a Culture of Misogyny, and it's great for the reasons she is: direct, unflinching, shocking, relatable, and funny. The way Psalm One talks about her career—making high-quality work for years, watching peers rocket to success, feeling and battling resentment, and powering through it all with love for her craft and belief in herself—I find it hella affirming. Psalm One presents a vivid picture of two types of people, the choices that they make, and the destinations they reach. Our key thought for this week will be the delight the righteous man has in reading, meditating, and applying the truths of Scripture, and the blessing that brings into his life.
Join the PATREON Original livestream date: April 22, 2020 Psalm One is a prolific trailblazer in the independent hip-hop scene. The Chicago emcee first gained national attention with 2006's 'Death of Frequent Flyer' album, and has since released a slew of releases – both as a solo artist and in various groups – in addition to touring the world. Her most recent project comes not in the form of music but a book, with her memoir 'Her Word is Bond,' detailing her journey in the music industry and the challenges she has faced and overcome both personally and professionally along the way. This classic episode predates that book, but it does offer plenty of insight as to Psalm's love for hip-hop music, the interesting path she has navigated throughout her career...and of course, her ability to flex her trivia skills. https://www.questionshiphop.com https://www.psalmonelovesyou.com The Questions Hip-Hop: Instagram | Twitter Sean Kantrowitz: Instagram | Twitter Psalm One: Instagram | Twitter
As rap music continues to mature as an art form more rappers are telling their stories on the page as opposed to just on the mic. We were fortunate to have Chicago-based rapper Psalm One join us this week to talk about her new book Her Word Is Bond (which is out now via Haymarket books). Part memoir, part music journalism, Her Word is Bond takes an unflinching look at underground hip hop culture through the eyes of a queer Black woman. Psalm talked to us about the process of making the book and how it impacted her mental health. She also shares some cool stories about her high school former classmate and current rapper/podcast impresario Open Mike Eagle. Hosts Nate LeBlanc, David Ma, and Demone Carter also lament the break-up of the pioneering comedy duo Desus and Mero. As a special bonus, there are clips from the recent Dad Bod Rap Pod live event Slap Box included in this episode. Dad Bod Rap Pod is a proud member of the Stony Island Audio podcast network!
in this episode Open Mike Eagle talks with fellow Chicago-born MC Psalm One about her book 'Her Word is Bond'. Mike and Psalm went to high school together and started rapping around the same time. Psalms for Life - Psalm 1: Just as Country Western music expresses the pleasure and pain of the human experience, the book of Psalms presents us with a worship playlist written for God's people in the Old Testament reminding them of His love for them and his repeated call to return home to Him. Psalm One will be our focus this weekend in learning to delight in the Lord. Consider what bring you delight in your life on a daily basis… how far down the list did you have to go before finding the Lord!? Over the years we encourage people to invite Jesus into their lives… Psalm 1 invites us into God's life of blessings and delight. Failing to respond to that invitation finds one following along with the crowd along a road in life that ends up heading down a dead-end street! Let's learn how to delight in the Lord together!

The Psalms will give you wisdom for every situation in your life. "Psalm 1 is the doorway or preface psalm that sets the tone for the entire book." "Meditation is to think about what the WORD means for your life." God will illuminate the application. Listen for transformation, not just information. Recalling the story of Joseph, Pastor Herb reminds us we may experience painful moments that bring us close to God. Joseph told his brothers "What you meant for evil, God meant for good" (Gen. 50:20) God blessed Joseph. "Who is the blessed man in Psalm One? Jesus is the only person who perfectly meets the description. We were all chaff, but we have become fruitful through Christ."
