In our younger years, it can be difficult to fully grasp the permanence of certain choices. That sense of distance from consequence can sometimes lead to decisions made without fully considering the risks. But the reality is that life is fragile, and even a single moment of impaired judgment can carry irreversible consequences… Written by Trevor Pason, Edited and Engineered by Scott Ecklein, and Executive Produced by Michael Ojibway. Music and singing weave through everyday life across the Pacific, shaping our stories, celebrations and connections. For many, it's more than just an expression; it's a source of joy.  But what is it about lifting our voice in song that makes us feel so good?  On Sistas Let's Talk, Natasha Meten sits down with Papua New Guinean-Australian opera singer Heru Pinkasova and choir director and ethnomusicologist Rita Seumanutafa-Palala to explore the deep pleasures of singing: how it binds communities, lifts spirits and continues to evolve across generations. Listen to this episode on ABC Radio Australia.

Dr. Brian Hill (Senior Pastor), "Lessons From James:  No Favorites", Children's Time, Choir, Blended Worship Praise Team (8:45 Service).   1.  My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.  2.  Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in.  3.  If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here's a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,”  4.  have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?       5.  Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?  6.  But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?  7.  Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?      8.  If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.  9.  But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.  10.  For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.  11.  For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,” also said, “You shall not murder.”  11.  If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.      12.  Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom,  13.  because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.       (James 2:1-13 NIV)To view a video version of the Blended Worship Service please click on the following link:   https://youtu.be/TARGz41uwzE (The audio version of the Blended Worship Service will most likely have to be stopped from playing or else it will be heard as well as the audio track of the video version.)

Join The Revd Steve Morris, Associate Priest of St Bride's, and St Bride's Choir for this week's reflection in words and music. During Lent, which began this week, we sing the Kyries instead of the Gloria from our weekly mass setting at Choral Eucharist on Sunday mornings. This week's setting in church is the "Messe en l'honneur du Saint-Sacrement Op 130" by the Belgian composer Joseph Jongen. He wrote it in 1945 with a sense of intense relief having just learned that his son had survived internment in Buchenwald. Our reflection opens with St Bride's Choir singing the opening movement. The reading is St Matthew's account of the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness by the devil which Steve, one of our associate priests at St Bride's, then reflects on. We close with another description of that time of temptation, "Forty days and forty nights" by George Hunt Smyttan which was first published in 1856. A new episode of this online act of worship is released every Sunday morning. Information about our weekly Sunday services in St Bride's of Choral Eucharist at 11am (www.stbrides.com/worship-music/wo…horal-eucharist/) and Choral Evensong at 5:30pm (www.stbrides.com/worship-music/wo…choral-evensong/) can be found on the website. Find out what's happening at St Bride's at www.stbrides.com/whats-on If you enjoy listening, please leave a comment below or subscribe to our channel. It is great to get your feedback. “What most people want to get out of choir is to feel a progression, that they slowly master the craft of choral music. For every warm-up, I boil it down to make it simple but also find the sweet spot where I can challenge the singers to get out of their comfort zone or dare to fail. The bravery to fail is crucial to the music making we'll be doing after the warm-up. Exercises that are on the brink of what is doable will have them on the edge of their seat in a playful spirit. It's always with a smile, always fun. If you make a mistake, no one will judge you. We can't grow if we don't make mistakes.”Jonas Rasmussen (b. 1992) is a Danish conductor, composer, content creator and educator who has quickly established himself as one of the most distinctive choral voices of his generation. Known for his ability to combine artistic ambition with playfulness and accessibility, he is the Artistic Director of Ensemble Novum, Academic Choir Aarhus and Youth Choir Aarhus U, and teaches classical choral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus.Jonas' ensembles have won some of the most prestigious international choral prizes, including the World Choral Championship in Tokyo (2019), the Grand Prix at the Rimini International Choral Competition (2018), the European Broadcasting Union's competition Let the Peoples Sing in Barcelona (2019), and the World Choral Cup in Barcelona (2022). In 2023 and again in 2025, he brought home multiple gold medals at the European Choir Games, Europe's biggest choral competition. Both his ensembles choirs are now ranked in the top 10 on INTERKULTUR's official top 1000 list of choirs from all around the world – with Youth Choir Aarhus U as #2 and Academic Choir Aarhus as #8.Education and mentorship are central to Jonas' work. In 2025, he started to post content online for a wider international audience and the response has been remarkable. In the first 10 months, Jonas has achieved just short of 350.000 followers across platforms and that number is quickly growing. He is frequently invited as a workshop leader for choral organizations in Denmark and abroad where his engaging style and ability to connect with singers of all levels are widely appreciated. Jonas' vision is to position choral music as a living, evolving art form – not a museum piece, but something that constantly redefines itself through collaboration, innovation, and community. Whether on the concert stage, in a classroom, or online, his work is driven by the belief that choir singing is one of the most powerful ways to create meaning and connection between people. To get in touch with Jonas, you can find him on Instagram (@choirconductor).Email choirfampodcast@gmail.com to contact our hosts.Podcast music from Podcast.coPhoto in episode artwork by Trace Hudson

And the power of the Lord was with him to heal.  18.  And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus,  19.  but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus.  20.  And when he saw their faith, he said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.”  21.  And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”  22.  When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts? 23.  Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, ‘Rise and walk'?   24.  But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.”  25.  And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home, glorifying God.  26.  And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “We have seen extraordinary things today.”       (Luke 6:17-26 ESV)

Music ushers in the Year of the Horse by bringing people closer across cultures. But what does a song mean when it crosses borders? How can music transform travel into understanding and strangers into friends? In this special edition of The Hub, Wang Guan celebrates the New Year with stories of music, connection, and cultural exchange as the One Voice Children's Choir returns to China to perform in Beijing ahead of the Chinese New Year. The choir and their director reflect on why they wrote their new song, "We Are Together," for Chinese audiences, share how performing in China this time feels different from previous visits, and explore how their interactions with local audiences have shaped their journey.

Today's episode continues our 12-part series: 12 Shifts in 2026 for Social Impact. Over twelve episodes, we're unpacking the mindset + strategy shifts shaping the future of fundraising, leadership, and doing good in 2026. Explore the series at weareforgood.com/12shiftsShift 11 / Story as InfrastructureIn today's episode, Jon and Becky welcome Carolina Garcia Jayaram, CEO of the Elevate Prize Foundation, for a reflective and forward-looking conversation on why story is no longer a communications tool — it's essential infrastructure for mission and culture. As attention fragments, trust erodes, and technology reshapes how people connect, Carolina invites nonprofit leaders to rethink storytelling as a relational practice rooted in humanity, proximity, and long-term investment. Together, they explore how centering people over issues, building trust-based relationships, and intentionally distributing stories can expand influence without sacrificing integrity.Carolina shares insights from Elevate's work at the intersection of philanthropy, media, and culture — from scaling visibility for proximate leaders to embracing AI in ways that deepen creativity rather than replace it. This episode is both a mindset shift and a practical invitation for leaders ready to treat story as something to protect, resource, and evolve from the inside out.Episode Highlights: People Over Issues: What Actually Moves Audiences to Action (03:45)Trust → Relationship-Based Philanthropy (05:10)Distribution as Strategy: Reaching Beyond the Choir (07:20)Owning Platforms & Visibility (YouTube, Creators, Times Square) (08:45)Case Study: Scaling Impact Through Story — Hannah Freed & Democracy Defenders (11:00)Scaffolding Stories: Why Nothing Should Be One-and-Done (14:50)Building Story Systems: Briefs, Libraries, and Iteration (16:30)Low-Fi Tools That Make High-Impact Stories Possible (18:40)Visibility = Fundraising: What the Data Shows (20:30)AI, Creativity & Neurodiversity: Scaling Without Losing Humanity (23:35)Carolina's One Good Thing (25:50)Episode Shownotes: www.weareforgood.com/episode/681Save your free seat at the We Are For Good Summit

Why had Josiah Goecker, a beloved family man, been ruthlessly gunned down while at work? Rock and Roots Collide To Make a Joyful Noise: SUSTO Stringband and Holler Choir

It is interesting to compare and contrast the genres of rock and roll with old time and string band music. In some ways, string bands can be more raw and intense than rock bands. No bridges. Odd tunings. Dancing to exhaustion. Music made for intimate social gatherings versus music made for the wide world. The stereotypes of old time musicians being country bumpkins have not been entirely erased, however our guests in this episode are making music that reveals how deep and refreshing that wellspring of what was the first original music export of America can be in a new context. Taking the intricacy and edge of old time, string band music and marrying that with the punch and strut of indie rock, we arrive at a hybrid, a musical animal that sings a song seldom heard in the roots music world. As Justin Osborne pointed out, “It's just been so fun and really educational for me too, because I think coming from the indie rock world, I underestimated what it was going to require of me to be able to hang. And I just, it's one of those things you don't realize how much you don't know. But it's been really enjoyable lessons in humility for me and really fun to learn, and to continue to realize how much I don't know.” Justin, of the Austin-based indie rock band SUSTO may never sound the same again after teaming up with Appalachian acoustic troubadours Clint Robinson and Jackson Grimm of Holler Choir, and they are soon to return with Volume 2 from their project SUSTO Stringband. In this episode, we get to hear from Justin, Jackson and Clint about their rock and string band amalgamation, the importance of strong songwriting, the joys of live performance, the advantages of playing festival shows and more, with music from both SUSTO Stringband and Holler Choir along the way. SUSTO Stringband Songs heard in this episode:“Rooster” by SUSTO Stringband, from SUSTO Stringband Volume 1“Friends, Lovers, Ex-lovers: Whatever” by SUSTO Stringband, performed live at The Albino Skunk Music Festival 10/02/25, excerpt“Tell My Blues” by SUSTO Stringband, performed live at The Albino Skunk Music Festival 10/02/25, excerpt“Hamlet Blues” by Holler Choir, performed live at The Albino Skunk Music Festival 10/02/25Thank you for listening, and we hope you can spread awareness of this endeavor and help us reach more music fans just like yourself. Please take a moment and give us a top rating on your podcast platform of choice, and where you can, a review. It makes a big impact on the ranking and therefore the visibility of this series to all the other music fans who also follow podcasts. This is Southern Songs and Stories, where our quest is to explore and celebrate the unfolding history and culture of music rooted in the American South, and going beyond to the styles and artists that it inspired and informed. - Joe Kendrick

By request, we listen to "Christmas Must Be Tonight" as performed by SCALA and Kolacny Brothers, a song about the son of a carpenter. Then we pair it with "Let's Make a Baby King" by Wynnona Judd, a song about that same guy and also his mom and also his cousin, and also maybe the concept of an infant-based form of government. The ranking music in this episode is "Nothing But a Child" by Steve Earle. Thank you to Liam for requesting this version of "Christmas Must Be Tonight"!

Dr. Brian Hill (Senior Pastor), "Lessons From James:  Live With Focus", Orchestra, Choir, Blended Worship Praise Team (8:45 Service).     19.  My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,  20.  because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.  21.  Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.       22.  Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  23.  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror  24.  and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.   25.  But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.       (James 1:19-25 NIV)To view the video version of the Blended Worship Service please click on the following link:   https://youtu.be/r1OtMY2g7FI(The audio version of the Blended Worship Service will most likely have to be stopped from playing or else it will be heard as well as the audio track of the video version.)

On a November night in Key West, FL in 2017, friends Paula and Roger were hanging out and partying in Paula's makeshift home nicknamed “The Treehouse.” Without warning, they were suddenly accosted by two masked men, leading to a tragic killing. The subsequent police investigation quickly mutated into a convoluted conspiracy involving drugs, coercion, and corruption. The result: a lone defendant representing himself in court swearing that he had been falsely accused - a man Paula swore was not one of her attackers… Special thanks to Franklin Tyrone Tucker for his willingness to speak with us for this episode. This week, we welcome the new year with Venus and Mars in a conjunction to each other and both to the Sun, and all three in opposition to Jupiter. Timestamps [1:15] Sun conjoins Venus (Jan. 6, 8:36 am PST) at 16º22' Capricorn. The degree of this conjunction is called the Venus Star Point. Check out Episode 282 for a refresher on the Venus Star Point, and find your own Venus Star Point at sophiavenus.com. This is one of the most powerful days of the year to manifest the situations and relationships that align with your heart and values. [4:05] Venus conjoins Mars (Jan. 7, 6:43 pm PST) at 18º09' Capricorn. The Sabian symbol for this conjunction is 19 Capricorn, A child of about five carrying a huge shopping bag. Motivation will be high to pursue the things that you want and enjoy. [6:54] Sun conjoins Mars (Jan. 9, 3:41 am PST) at 19º12' Capricorn, on the Sabian symbol, 20 Capricorn, A hidden choir singing. The Sun, Venus, and Mars are together at 19º Capricorn and opposed Jupiter in Cancer. This Mars cazimi day is ideal for sharing something you've been working on with the world. [9:03] Venus opposes Jupiter (Jan. 9, 9:35 am PST) at 20º11' Capricorn-Cancer. This transit can indicate a tendency to overdo it, to spend more money than you need to on things that don't necessarily satisfy you. Give some thought to what could make your relationships happier. On the flipside, your hard work could be acknowledged. [12:06] Moon Report! The Libra Last Quarter Moon (Jan. 10, 7:48 am PST) is at 20º24' Libra-Capricorn. This Last Quarter Moon is the last major phase in the New Moon cycle that began with the Sagittarius New Moon (Dec. 19, 2025). Seek resolution to the conflict between collaboration and individual ambition. Sabian symbols: 21 Libra, A crowd upon the beach (Moon) and 21 Capricorn, A relay race (Sun). [15:09] Lunar Phase Family Cycle (LPFC). This is the Last Quarter in an LPFC that began with a Solar Eclipse New Moon on Oct. 14, 2023, at 21º07' Libra. The First Quarter of this LPFC was on July 13, 2024. The Full Moon in this LPFC was on April 12, 2025, at 23º19' minutes Libra. [17:05] The Moon in Leo squares Uranus in Taurus (Jan. 6, 5:05 am PST). On this episode of Preaching to the Choir, I challenge a comfortable lie too many men believe: that saying you'd die for your family somehow equals leadership.Words are easy. Declarations are cheap. Virtue signaling costs nothing.Living for your family is where the real work begins. Consistency. Discipline. Showing up in the mundane and the boring, day after day, when no one is watching. That's how trust is built. That's how families are strengthened. That's how legacy is earned. We live in a culture obsessed with talk and performance, yet allergic to responsibility and follow-through. This episode is a reminder that leadership isn't found in dramatic sacrifice, but in quiet obedience, daily effort, and long-term commitment.Stop talking about who you'd die for. Start proving who you're willing to live for.CarniVault Freeze Dried Meats-Use "MG10" to save!https://carnivault.comUse MG20 to save 20% at Wasatch Wagyuhttps://wasatchwagyu.comUse Code "MGS15" for %15 OFF on your first order!https://firecracker.farm/Join my patreonhttps://patreon.com/mikeglover
