At just the right time, Jesus came into the world. He came to free us from the crushing weight of the law. We could never be good enough to earn salvation, so Jesus lived a perfect life on our behalf. Why? Because of love. God wanted us to be a part of his family. Out of love, he adopted us through the work of Christ. We are now the sons and daughters of God. Jesus is our savior and we can rest in the love of the Father.

“But when the fullness of time had come…” Christ was born at just the right time, according to the sovereign timing of God. Romans 5:6 says, “For while we were still weak, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.” Christ was born in the fullness of time and Christ will return in the fullness of time. And at the Incarnation, God’s message of love was perfectly proclaimed. Jesus came that we might receive adoption as sons and daughters. You don’t earn adoption – you receive it.

Have you ever thought or said, “This could not have come at a worse time!”? Often it seems as though trouble, tragedy, and trials enter our lives at the worse possible time, but let’s be honest, is there ever a good time for any of those to visit our lives? One of the most beautiful parts of the Christmas story is the claim in Galatians 4:4 that Christ came at the PERFECT time and yet to many intimately involved in that event, the timing probably didn’t seem all that PERFECT.
