Korby speaks with East Nashville based singer-songwriter Lauren Morrow about the roller coaster reality of making a life in music, one song at a time. Lauren is the former lead singer of Atlanta's Whiskey Gentry and now the solo artist of 2023's EP People Talk. They talk about the fraught waters of self-promotion in a landscape dominated by social media, her formative experience as a young singer performing for 50k people, and the fallacious strategy of aping the youth. She performs 3 songs in the studio, with Korby joining her on a couple.

It's a year-end feast of sound and celebration as Roots closes a four year run at the Factory, with a gorgeous and wide ranging lineup. Modernist songwriter Anthony DaCosta pairs his spectral guitar and keening voice with the fiddle of Kimber Ludiker to open the show. And we close the night with another gorgeous voice - heck maybe the most gorgeous voice in roots music - the hit-making and heartwarming suzy Bogguss. In between, the elegant and talented Dawn Landes with music she's been working on in the studio with the legendary Fred Foster. (He produced Roy Orbison, don't you know) Also And the Whiskey Gentry play songs from their stellar 2017 album Dead Ringer.
Gretchen Peters, JD Souther, Nellie McKay, The Whiskey Gentry, and Wayne Henderson on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Barter Theater in Abingdon, VA.
Paul Thorn plays tracks from Too Blessed To Be Stressed, and talks about his feel-good anthem songs and kissing babies on the campaign trail. Also on this episode, blues rock from The Heckhounds, a beautiful country crooner from Emma Swift, alt-folk from Shakey Graves, bluegrass from the Whiskey Gentry, roots rock from Tim Easton, electric blues from Sean Chambers, Appalachian folk from Malcolm Holcombe, honkytonk from Tyller Gummersall, swamp punk from Les Claypool's Duo DeTwang. "Ep#212 Paul Thorn writes some feel-good anthems" originated from Americana Music Show.
Blair Crimmins & The Hookers joins us in the studio! This is the trio version of the group, sans horns and dancing girls. When people ask Blair what kind of music he plays, he makes it real simple. He just says "Ragtime". And boy does he do it well. We're very happy to say that we got more music on this show than we bargained for, and had a great time as usual goofing around with the band, and sporadically finding out more about them. We're honored to say that Atlanta is home to a band playing original music in this traditional style. Very cool. Enjoy! And as always, please tell a friend or two about our show. They'll love you for it! *DO NOT MISS Blair Crimmins and the Hookers playing at The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta THIS SATURDAY 12/1/2012 with recent podcast guests The Whiskey Gentry! http://www.variety-playhouse.com/ http://www.blaircrimminsandthehookers.com/ https://www.facebook.com/blaircrimminsandthehookers https://www.facebook.com/twofacesradio
