The Aggressive Salad: Nutrition with a Bite podcast is a breath of fresh air in the world of nutrition advice. As someone who has struggled with yo-yo dieting and conflicting information about what foods are healthy or not, this podcast resonates with me on a deep level. Host Abby and her guests approach nutrition from a place of love and appreciation for food, eating, and the body you're in. This is a stark contrast to the constant messages we hear about restricting calories and labeling certain foods as "bad." As a farmer working in agriculture, I particularly appreciate the podcast's support for all types of food and the understanding that no food should be feared.

One of the best aspects of The Aggressive Salad podcast is Abby's knowledge and no-nonsense approach to sharing information. She has been a trusted source for credible nutrition guidance on Instagram for a long time, and her podcast continues to deliver accurate and evidence-based information. The guests she brings on also offer valuable insights and perspectives on various nutrition topics. It's refreshing to hear from experts who cut through the noise and provide straightforward advice.

Another great aspect of this podcast is its ability to address common pitfalls in nutrition advice. Many of us have fallen prey to the "snake oil salesmen" out there peddling pseudo-nutrition expertise. The Aggressive Salad helps listeners navigate through contradictory advice found online by providing unbiased information. Abby takes a stand against these self-proclaimed experts, even calling out her peers when necessary.

While it's difficult to find any major flaws in this podcast, one aspect that might be lacking is more focus on specific nutritional challenges or conditions that some listeners may face. While the show does provide general guidance applicable to most people, it would be helpful if there were more episodes addressing specific dietary concerns or health issues.

In conclusion, The Aggressive Salad: Nutrition with a Bite podcast is a must-listen for anyone seeking credible nutrition guidance in a world full of misinformation. Abby's knowledge, no-nonsense approach, and dedication to debunking myths make this podcast an invaluable resource. Whether you're struggling with yo-yo dieting, looking for guidance in the world of nutrition, or simply want to learn more about taking care of your body, this podcast will provide the facts and insights you need. Keep up the great work!

RD Desiree Nielsen joins me to sort the chaff from the wheat, literally. We discuss all things gut health, and delineate the science from the fearmongering, buzzwordy marketing around gut health and microbiomes. She explains how the health industry has taken isolated nutrition truths about gut health and extrapolated, exaggerated and mis-contextualized them to push products and restrictive diets that claim to ‘transform' your gut. We tackle myths about our microbiomes and discuss the demonization of seed oils. We debunk the efficacy of colonics as well as “probiotics for weight loss” (I'm looking at you Better Body Company!), and shed light on what information is and isn't fact checked in the nutrition world.   Thanks for listening! The pursuit of thinness at any cost has to stop. In this day and age most of us can see right through irresponsible comments like “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”, but how many of us can identify diet culture disguised as health? Do you know the line between health promoting behaviors and obsessive patterns? How do you get yourself out of food habits that began with good intentions but have now spiraled into compulsion? In today's episode I'm joined by clinical social worker June Burke-MacDonald, a social worker who specializes in eating disorder recovery, to unpack all things disordered eating, both socially and clinically. We discuss the causes of eating disorders, how to navigate nutrition without dogma, misconceptions about eating disorders, and the insidious nature of calorie tracking. You don't want to miss this one: if not you, then a friend, or a friend of a friend has been touched by the effects of diet culture and eating disorders disguised as health.    Thanks for listening! You heard me. I want you to eat processed foods! Not necessarily more than other foods, nor as an overrepresentation of your diet, but in the ways you find convenient, balanced, joyful and practical. Because the truth is that most foods are processed, including nutrient dense foods like canned beans, vegetables, tofu and unsweetened yoghurt. In this solo episode I break down the Nova classification system that is responsible for classing foods as “processed” and “ultra-processed”. I explain its limitations and how the classifications are problematic. I illustrate why the foods under these classifications aren't inherently unhealthy and why they should not be demonized. I outline how many nova-classified foods are actually health promoting, and that ultimately, our diets are greatly impacted by social determinants of health. Ultimately, your diet should support the life that you want for yourself, and joy, culture, convenience and celebration through food is a large part of that.     Thanks for listening!
