Collaborative models have shown that they can assist in maintaining services in rural communities, for example the Bendigo Community Bank network, but there are more opportunities out there for collaborative models to assist farmers into the future.

Managing cash flow throughout the year is a balancing act. As the 2018 winter cropping season begins, growers may have already spent money on seed, seed treatments, pre-emergent herbicides, back loading fertiliser, and stocking up on mouse bait.

PB seeds commercial manager Janine Sounness and AGRIvision consultant John Stuchbury presented the latest information on pulse variety development, agronomy and meeting market specifications at the BCG Main Field Day September 2017. Mrs Sounness and Mr Stuchbury have significant expertise in the production of pulses in the Wimmera and Mallee.
2017 main site hosts Craig Rickard and Jim Rickard farm next to each other in the Curyo area, 25km north west of Birchip. Craig and Jim were nice enough to not only let the BCG team host trials and the main field day on their properties, but to let BCG CEO Chris Sounness ask them a few hard questions.

BCG project manager Louisa Ferrier sat down with AgFarm’s account manager Tim Hogarth in the led up to the 2017 harvest to discuss what growers need to be considering when it comes to grain marketing this season. There was plenty to discuss with the bumper 2016 season and low prices meaning many have held grain over. With the 2017 harvest in the Wimmera and much of the Mallee also looking good, 2016 grain could continue to prove a headache.
