Men Karl XII lyckades snabbt besegra danskarna – som hotade kärnlandet. Nästa steg var att möta ryssarna vid Narva där segertåget fortsatte. Den taktiskt skickliga Karl XII med hjälp av karolinernas offensiva svenska manér verkade kunna besegra vem som helst.Detta är den andra delen av en serie om fyra avsnitt om karolinerna och det stora nordiska kriget. Programledaren Urban Lindstedt samtalar med historikern Olle Larsson som bland annat skrivit böckerna Stormaktens sista strid och Slaget vid Poltava.Under mitten av september 1700 hade ryska trupper marscherat över gränsen med avsikt att inta en av det svenska rikets östligaste utposter, staden Narva i Estland. Den befästa stadens kommendant, överste Henning Rudolf Horn, lyckades emellertid försvara staden mot ryssarna. Svenskarna lyckades föra över sina trupper utan större förluster och fördriva ryssarna.Under krigets gång utspelades även flera inbördes stridigheter och politiska spel. I Polen kämpade svenska styrkor och rebeller mot kung August II och hans ryska allierade.
