To mark the 20th anniversary of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P), this year we are featuring a special series of interviews with experts, practitioners, academics and civil society and human rights defenders who will reflect on conceptual and operational development of R2P over the past two decades, as well as the impact of R2P and atrocity prevention on their work. In this episode, we sat down with Adama Dieng, African Union (AU) Special Envoy on the Prevention of Genocide and Other Mass Atrocities and Deputy Chair of the Global Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. Adama reflects on his distinguished career in the prevention of atrocities, including his time as the UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide. He shares insights on how he is using his role as the AU's first ever Special Envoy on the Prevention of Genocide and Other Mass Atrocities to draw attention to and mobilize response for crises across the continent. The conversation concludes with a discussion on the observance of Genocide Prevention and Awareness month and progress made in the prevention of mass atrocities over the past two decades.

Adama has been helping raise consciousness on this planet for over 40 years. She lives what she preaches, and you can feel the depth of this embodiment with every word.   Adama is a force of nature, and after our conversation, I felt like I was walking on water. If you don't know her work, buckle up.   About  After earning a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Florida, along with Presidential and Scholastic Honors, I returned to Atlanta to study Conscious Cosmic Citizenship with African elder Josiah Osuagwu from 1982 to 1985, continuing private tutelage for 17 years. My focus was on Creator-Knowledge, Creation-Knowledge, and Self-Knowledge as essential for Liberation and Emancipation, aiming to reorient, regenerate, and re-educate individuals and collectives about their roles in Conscious Living. In 1984, I began performing with SOLAR at the New Orleans World Fair and as a solo artist in 1985, using rhythm, movement, and verse to inspire audiences. My performances include appearances with the Staple Singers, Melba Moore, and Aisha Khalil, as well as at major venues like Fox Theater, Emory University, and the National Black Arts Festival, along with radio interviews on WDET and WRFG.   I consulted for the Wholistic Stress Control Institute, teaching life skills and poetry to youth in Atlanta, including over 2,000 young people in 1999 through various youth centers and schools. I also served as president and co-owner of Mother Earth's Adornments, Inc., which offered custom adornments, vegan cuisine, and spiritual consultation.   I currently produce and host the radio program "The Meeting of The Inner Circle" on 89.3FM WRFG Atlanta, providing inspirational programming on liberation, resurrection, and life-support. Le 9 septembre 1924, le Conseil de la Société des Nations adoptait une résolution qui allait donner naissance à l'Institut International de Coopération Intellectuelle. Précurseur de l'UNESCO, cet Institut a joué un rôle majeur dans le développement des échanges intellectuels internationaux. Pour cet épisode, nous avons la chance d'accueillir deux invités de marque : Blandine Blukacz-Louisfert, Cheffe de la Section de la mémoire institutionnelle à la Bibliothèque et Archives des Nations Unies à Genève, et Adama Pam, Chef archiviste à l'UNESCO à Paris. Ils retracent le contexte historique de cette coopération intellectuelle, les difficultés rencontrées, et les activités marquantes de l'Institut. Plusieurs personnalités ayant contribué à ces travaux sont évoquées. Diplômée archiviste-paléographe de l'École nationale des chartes en 1990, elle a débuté sa carrière aux Archives nationales à Paris (1990-1991). Elle a ensuite travaillé au Yémen pour l'ONU et l'UNESCO pendant cinq ans sur un projet de création d'Archives nationales.
