It's very easy to fall into the trap of making a list of the worst thing, what you hate most, dislike most, etc. When it comes to business travel, and traveling in Thailand in general, there aren't many BLISSFUL moments because of transportation woes, blatantly racist immigration officers, and even traffic on the tarmac of the runway.  These are traps in which I fall into personally. But in this podcast, I'm going to give you collocations to journal and look at the beautiful moments of your personal/business travels -- as well as the anecdote of my "back to America" trip from Aussie. You might think that making personal contact, in this social media era, is much less important than it used to be. But to be honest with you, having a conversation, warming up and getting to know a potential client will give you a 6-7 times higher chance of them cooperating with you. Late payers. Omg. If you have an invoice, pay it. However, in your personal finances, always pay yourself first -- although there are some exceptions. I have a friend who works for a company that pays just before they're cut off in particular sectors within the company, and if I were someone dealing with that company on an individual basis, I would ask for upfront payment. In today's podcast, we discuss these heavy questions. Taurus and Scorpio bring an emphasis on safety, and what that means to us as individuals. Scorpio represents the soil from which we cultivate. Taurus is the growth from the soil, it is the roots and the fruit born from the transformation below (Scorpio).  Check out this presentation for a deeper dive into Scorpio and Taurus and the nodes of the moon from historic events, and also what we could potentially see in the next 18 months. We've all been there. We have all had conversations when someone speaks about only them rather than asking you questions and showing general interest. We have had people who literally waste our time, and hard sellers who are trying to push you to buy something. I recall listening to a presentation through a mutual friend (at the time) back in 2018. I introduced myself and told him that I though his talk was awesome, and he quickly tried hard-selling me a course -- resulting in a fat BLOCK. Being an escape artist is essential, so in today's episode, we're going to break all of them down and go into detail with actual live events. Hello friends, welcome to the show. My name is Tom Broback and I am on a mission to help coaches keep their athletes happy and healthy. I loved playing sports growing up. From backyard football to traveling basketball to high school track and field, there was nothing better than being on a team and playing to win a game. Unfortunately, I struggled with health issues and I know your athletes do too. This inspired me to become a physical therapist and sports performance coach. This podcast will help coaches like you learn how to keep your athletes off the bench and in the game. Do you work with female athletes? Do you ever find yourself wondering how you can give more to their athletic development but don't know where to start? Look no farther than the Strong Female Athlete Book from my guest today, Erica Suter. The Strong Female Athlete is an evidence-based and experience-based text with a fresh, novel approach for youth female athletes to improve speed, reduce injury, and increase strength. Erica combines her experience as an elite soccer player with her blossoming career as a strength and conditioning coach to help female athletes progress on and off the field. If you are someone who works with female athletes, you need to get this book (and, of course, listen to this episode) to level up your coaching game. We flagged this point last episode and today we are going to look at the use of evidence when giving presentations.  I often mention the two modern dilemmas of being a presenter.  We now live in the Age of Distraction where audiences will rapidly escape from us to the internet, if we haven't sufficiently captured their attention.  Sometimes, even when they are interested, they are still multi-tasking.  They are listening to us and scrolling through their social media at the same time.  This habit has solidified and it is a nightmare today to get our message across.  The other dilemma is we are in the Era of Cynicism.  Fake news is now a thing and our audience's sensitivity to the validity of information has become more acute.    Both of these drivers make our job even harder than in the past.  If we fill our presentations with “editorial” or “opinion” we are likely to lose the attention of the listeners.  They are there to gain some benefit from giving us their attention and as riveting as our opinion may be to us, it may not ignite much interest in the audience.  If we don't bring some concrete insights, backed up with proof and evidence then the hands will be reaching for their phones immediately.  The Era of Cynicism means the evidence had better be highly credible and employing numerous sources.  Talking about findings from your own research is good, but could be greeted with doubt, if you don't mention the detail on how the findings were assembled.   When we are designing our talk, we have access to some useful tools. DEFEATS is a handy acronym for remembering the different types of evidence we can draw upon to convince or impress our audience that what we say is true.   D-Demonstration. This might be something that can be shown physically during the presentation or something that we can show on screen, using software, audio or video.  It has to be congruent with the point we are making and provide a visual reinforcement of our key point.   E-Example.  The best examples are those which are most relevant to the members of the audience.  We should try and know who is in our audience and think what would be an example that will resonate with as many people as possible.  If the example is from the same industry and a similarly sized organisation then it becomes more meaningful for the audience.  I attended a talk given by a senior executive from a major organisation, who used examples within that context.  The problem was that the audience were all small to medium sized companies and there was nothing to relate to.   F-Facts.  Facts are provable and can be verified independently.  A claim is not a fact.  We need to be able to cite where the fact can be checked, if we are asked.  When we show graphs, for example, we should have the source of the data prominently displayed.  Most people won't bother to check the data, but they feel better knowing they can do so if they wish.   E-Exhibits. This is usually something physical we can show to the audience.  In some cases, it may also be shown as an image.  In both cases we have to make sure the audience can see it easily.  If it is a physical object, hold it up around shoulder height, rather down around the waist.  Also, don't wave it around – hold it still, so it easy for the audience to see.   A-Analogies.  We referred to Analogies in Openings Part One in Episode #264.  We are trying to simplify something complex for our audience. We compare two things which have no natural connection to make the point clearer.  For examples, we compare flying a passenger aircraft and speech making.  There is no natural connection between them.  Now we connect them.  “Flying a passenger plane is like giving a speech.  The take off and landing for aircraft are the most dangerous periods of the flight.  In the same way for speeches, openings and closing determine our impression with our audience”.  This connects two ideas and makes them more accessible for the listeners. T-Testimonials.  Social proof has become extremely powerful today.  Testimonials are not our primary form of evidence, but they lend credibility to what we are saying.  A recognized expert supporting what we are saying gives our point more power.  In our case, the most famous investor in the world Warren Buffett is a huge fan of Dale Carnegie and often mentions the impact the training had on his career.  We could never afford to pay him to do that, but he does it anyway, because he is a true believer and that make it even more powerful.   S-Statistics.  The best statistics are third-party numbers.  If we quote our own research, that is okay, but it is not as convincing as also having an independent organisation's statistics.   When we are designing our main argument, as we get to the key points, we should be trying to match them with hard evidence to prove the point.  If we do that, then we will have a much better chance of keeping the audience with us right through to the end of our presentation.  If we can do that in today's distracted and cynical environment, we will  have been highly successful.

On today's episode I'm focusing on being hyper focused. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, and I've had a real learning journey since the diagnosis to try to manage my condition and to understand how my brain works. I want to encourage you to get to know yourself too, so that you can function better in your relationships and in your business and find out how to work from your magic. Once you get rid of limiting beliefs about yourself and your abilities, you can start to achieve the things you want from life.  Did you know that up until 2002, women weren't included in generalized studies of ADHD? Presentations of ADHD in women are quite different, and it can often go undiagnosed because little girls don't tend to cause problems in the classroom, so they rarely get specialist referrals. They can often ‘pass' as neurotypical, and it's not until later in life when their ADHD really starts to cause a problem, when they're juggling work, family, relationships, and other responsibilities. This was exactly my story, as I thought that my ADHD was anxiety, and that my anxiety was preventing me from focusing on my children and relaxing with my family. Since my diagnosis, I've turned my ADHD around and used my hyperfocus to succeed in my business, and to learn more about my condition.  In this episode, I walk you through my mental process since the diagnosis. I also share three behavioral tendencies that are part of an ADHD diagnosis. I want you to think about whether any of these tendencies are present in your life, as if so, they could be worth talking to a medical professional about, so that you can start to get the help you may need.  To learn more about my coaching, photography, podcast, and to stay connected, visit me at: Alisha Crossley Website Alisha Crossley Photography Website Alisha's Amazon Favorites List Alisha Crossley Photography Instagram Alisha Crossley Official Instagram To learn more about The Artisan's Advantage Signature Course, click on the link below: The Artisan's Advantage Signature Course

Frustrating experiences with late payers can be time-consuming and costly. There have been times that institutions here in Thailand would pay 1-12 months late. I, on the other hand, receive half payment upfront for bigger projects (over 50 hours) and the other half once the second-half begins. Now, if they don't pay, they don't get training. It's a general principle. In 2019, there was a 12th grade student who didn't pay me for the last 2 hours of teaching and I constantly had to bug her. In 2016, a university student wanted to pay at the END of the course. All of this was unbelievably laughable and a learning experience. And so now, you MUST pay before class/course or forget about it. But if they don't pay, how can you follow up? In this installment of the Ugly 8 Reasons WHY SELLERS GET RELEGATED TO “VENDOR” STATUS & COMMODITIZED series, Mike challenges you to… Take a hard look at how you are executing what might be the most critical aspect of selling – The Sales Call and whether you are Presenting or Demo-ing PREMATURELY Evaluate the potential damage caused by conducting ineffective sales calls and committing sales malpractice by presenting before doing proper discovery work Consider that maybe the reason you don't stand out from your competition and get lumped in with everyone else and commoditized is because you look, dress, sound, and act like every other salesperson  We in sales often confuse presenting with selling. “Presenting” is not a synonym for selling. Most of us typically present too much and too soon – often way too soon. Just because a prospect asks us for a demo or to come in and present a capabilities overview, that doesn't mean it's the right time to do it or even the right thing to do.  “Spray and pray” is not an effective sales methodology and when we present or demo prematurely, it's almost impossible to be seen as a trusted advisor or respected consultant. After breaking down the common causes of ineffective sales calls, Mike offers his favorite, simple, powerful way to verbally set up the meeting, share your agenda, get the customer's input and buy-in that not only puts you firmly in control but also removes the awkward adversarial dynamic where it feels like we are pitching and the prospect is resisting. The episode concludes with an entertaining and memorable sales lesson from Jerry, the kooky kitchen remodel contractor who won Mike's business by standing out from the competition. Instead of playing with graph paper and thumbing through cabinet brochures, listen to how Jerry differentiated his approach and deployed excellent discovery work (including cutting a hole in the drywall without permission) to win over Mike and his wife. Sales Friends, the bottom line on Episode 18 is this: LAME + SAME = VENDOR/COMMODITY SELLER Take a listen for practical tips on how to be bold, break the mold, and come across like professional problem-solvers, consultants and value-creators! While fishing a streamer, we're trying to make it look alive. That's the difference. Because, while fly fishing other styles, we spend so much of our time dead drifting dry flies and nymphs and trying to impart no motion, that switching to streamers is a relief. It's liberating. It's fun.And so many presentations — so many looks to the streamer — can be attractive and convincing. Because everything works sometimes. But day to day, some retrieves and presentations just work better. And there's no question about it. Sometimes, hammering the banks with a fast jerk-strip brings the big trout out to play. And other days it's a soft crossover technique that really turns on those same trout. The joy of streamer fishing is that so many things can work. And trying them all is a great way to spend our time on the water. On a dry fly, I'll tell you what they want: It's a dead drift. On a nymph? Same thing. And the closer you can get to that pure, unaltered drift, the more convincing your fly presentation will be.But on streamers? Show them a slow slide or a head flip. Give them a speed lead, a touch-and-go or an endless retrieve. See what works. That's the fun of streamer fishing. Make the fly look alive in the water. It's not dead drifting anymore — it's swimming a living baitfish that can do a bunch of predictable and unpredictable things.Sometimes it seems like the trout are looking for one kind of action on the fly — or at least that's what turns them on most. Other times, many of these presentations seem to work. But the point is to make that fly swim. Give life to the streamer. Convince the trout that they're looking at a living, swimming creature. And that's what this podcast conversation is about -- breaking down streamer presentations. How do we move the fly with the line hand and the rod tip, with strips, jigs, twitches and more? We talk about head position, depth, speed and holding vs crossing currents and seams. We touch on natural looks vs attractive ones. Should we make it easy for them or make them chase? This discussion, with four of my best fishing friends, is about what makes each presentations to the fly unique. If you find yourself saying, perhaps of a political speech, “Well, that's just rhetoric”, you are getting things exactly wrong. That's according to my guest today, Philip Collins, former chief speechwriter to Tony Blair and author of “When They Go Low, We Go High: Speeches That Shape the World - and Why We Need Them”. Phil is an old friend of mine and irritatingly good at very many things: he's a philosopher, lecturer, policy wonk, journalist (now for both the New Statesman and the Evening Standard), and much else besides. I think of him now as “Mr. Rhetoric”. Phil believes that rhetoric is essential to the functioning of democracy and, now, to its saving. We talk about Donald Trump, Tony Blair, Boris Johson, Barack Obama, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Pericles, sophistry, the role of emotion in political persuasion, the need for enchantment - and the importance of paying our respects. Philip Collins Philip Collins is a British journalist, author and academic. He served as the chief speechwriter for Prime Minister Tony Blair from 2004-2007, after serving as the director of The Social Market Foundation, an independent think tank in the UK. Collins is the founder and writer-in-chief at The Draft, a writing and rhetoric agency, and he also teaches a course on rhetoric at the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University. He is a contributing editor at The New Statesman, and a columnist for the Evening Standard.  More Collins We discussed Collins' vastly interesting book, “When They Go Low, We Go High: Speeches That Shape the World - and Why We Need Them” He also authored “Start Again: How We Can Fix Our Broken Politics” and “The Art of Speeches and Presentations,” among other books.   You can follow more of his work on Twitter: @PhilipJCollins1 Also Mentioned  I mentioned the book, “The Liberal Mind,” written by Kenneth Minogue Collins mentioned JP Stern's book “Hitler: The Führer and the People”  Collins also referred to the book “How Democracies Die” written by Levitsky and Ziblatt  The Dialogues Team  Creator: Richard Reeves Research: Ashleigh Maciolek Artwork: George Vaughan Thomas Tech Support: Cameron Hauver-Reeves Music: "Remember" by Bencoolen (thanks for the permission, guys!)
