Sent to the violent terrorist stronghold of Ar Ramadi, Iraq in 2006 with SEAL Team Three's Task Unit Bruiser, J.P. served as point man, machine gunner, and lead sniper for Delta Platoon opposite the American Sniper, Chris Kyle, who was in Charlie Platoon. For his leadership and courage under fire, JP was awarded a Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars with Valor and the Army Commendation Medal with Valor helping Task Unit Bruiser to become the most highly decorated special operations unit of the Iraq War. He worked closely with SEAL Officers Jocko Willink, his Task Unit Commander, and Leif Babin, and was the driving force on many of the daring combat operations Jocko and Leif wrote about in Extreme Ownership. Upon his return, J.P. again worked directly for Jocko as a training instructor at Naval Special Warfare Group One Training Detachment, where he orchestrated realistic and challenging training scenarios for Special Operations Urban Combat training and Close Quarters Combat training to better prepare SEAL units for the real-world battlefield. He also served as a Combatives Instructor, Marksmanship Instructor and earned his Master Trainer Specialist qualification while helping Jocko rebuild and enhance these training programs into the highly effective platforms they are today. At the 2026 Tandem Meetings, CancerNetwork® spoke with a variety of experts who presented on key developments and advancements across hematologic oncology. As part of different oral presentations and poster sessions, researchers and clinicians shared updated findings that may influence the management of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancer types.First, Fernando Duarte, head of the Bone Marrow Transplant Service at Walter Cantídio University Hospital (HUWC), hematologist and professor at the Federal University of Ceará, and president of the Brazilian Society of Cell Therapy and Bone Marrow Transplant, highlighted his presentation analyzing trends associated with allogenic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) among patients with MDS or myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and other types of MDS. Data from the Brazillian SBTMO and CIBMTR registry revealed that patients receiving allo-HCT for MDS/MPN were typically older with worse performance statuses. Additionally, MDS/MPN independently predicted worse overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival outcomes.Next, Alfonso Molina, MD, MPH, a third-year Hematology and Medical Oncology fellow at Stanford University, detailed results from a phase 1 trial (NCT05507827) assessing Orca-T, an investigational allogeneic T-cell immunotherapy, among those with high-risk B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Treatment with Orca-T yielded disease-free survival and OS in all (100%) 18 evaluable patients after a median follow-up of 14 months (range, 3-35), which occurred without graft failure, significant graft-versus-host-disease, or severe CAR-mediated toxicity.Finally, Irtiza N. Sheikh, DO, an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics - Patient Care, Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Section of the Division of Pediatrics at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, discussed his presentation exploring differences in outcomes with lisocabtagene maraleucel (Breyanzi; liso-cel) across various treatment settings and patient populations with large B-cell lymphoma. Data demonstrated that among patients younger than 50 years old, liso-cel produced enduring responses across real-world and clinical trial settings, which were comparable to outcomes in overall populations. Make Your Presentations More Interesting to Your Audiences

If you want to be a fantastic speaker, you have to be able to make any topic really interesting -- even if you aren't that excited about it. So on this episode, I'm going to give you nine things that I call "Impact Ideas". They are different types of evidence that you can use to make your point more compelling or interesting.This is a continuation of the series we started a few weeks called the Presentation Skills Checklist. And over the last couple of weeks, we covered the first three items on that checklist, (1) how to know your audience better, (2) how to design a catchy title, and (3) how to create a presentation outline focused on what the audience wants. Last week, we started covering the fourth step in the checklist -- offer compelling evidence to prove each point. And, on that episode, we focused entirely on examples and stories, because they are, by far, your most credible piece of evidence.So, if you haven't listened to that episode yet, make sure to. I cover a few secrets about how to be a better storyteller and how to use stories to reduce nervousness and make your audience want to really listen to you.Today, I'm going to give you nine other types of evidence. By the way, the reason why there are nine is that every presentation and every audience is different. I covered stories last week because it doesn't matter what you are speaking about or who is in your audience, a compelling real-life example of what you are talking about can add clarity. These other nine things, though, can be hit or miss. It really depends on the topic and the audience.Let me give you the nine things quickly1) Audience Participation: Get feedback from your audience, ask them questions, or get them to talk to each other.2) Analogies: Compare something complicated to something more common place to make it easier to understand.3) Anecdotes: A funny story or a story that makes a point is often more memorable than just a bullet point.4) Demonstration: When you show your audience what you are trying to tell them, they will often have more clarity.5) Quote: A testimonial from an expert or client at the right time can add credibility.6) Sample: Something that your audience can see, touch, and feel has more impact than just a description of the item.7) Name Drop: If you don't have a quote, you can name drop others who agree with you.8) Non-PowerPoint Visual Aid: A spontaneous flip-chart drawing, a poster, or board will often have a greater impact on the audience than an image on a slideshow that is more temporary.9) Showmanship: Never underestimate the entertainment value of your presentation.So, now that we know the different items, let's explore how they could do very well in one type of audience and backfire i another. Let's take Audience Participation for instance. If you are in an intimate 10 person room, getting the audience to respond is much easier. But, if you are speaking to 100 people, now you have to deal with extra microphones, and your audience will be more self-conscious. So, they may not respond.Or, if you insert a funny anecdote into a training session, it will likely get people to laugh. We've all sat through boring presentations, with PowerPoints that are just slide after slide of too much text. If all you're doing is reading off your slides, then why do a presentation at all? And if your audience falls asleep, then you've effectively communicated nothing. If you really want to grab people's attention, you use visuals. That could mean not just pictures, but graphs and charts. There's no better way to represent data than with graphs. But the graph doesn't do all the work for you. You still need to give it life and make it a seamless part of your overall presentation. The first thing you might do is introduce the point you want to make, before you use the visual. And remember that your audience might have some understanding of the topic already, so you should acknowledge that. And you can make it dramatic by using foreshadowing and highlighting important points. And just like in any presentation, it's good to use clear transitions between points and slides. In today's dialog, we'll hear a presentation from Pat, a director with a cell, or mobile phone manufacturer called Ambient. He's presenting to the company's sales team about how they've regained market share after a rough couple of years. We will hear how Pat uses visuals to enhance his presentation.
