As the finish line to another calendar year arrives, I cherish the opportunity to share the stories of some of our incredible community members - to celebrate their success in all they do as business owners and farmers. Martin & Hayley Grosser own and operate MHG Farming Enterprises, a mixed sheep and dryland cropping operation at Kaniva in Victoria's Western Wimmera. Their success in farming over the past 10 years, to say the least, is deeply impressive. From a standing start to over 5,000 acres under management, Martin & Hayley have been stand-out members and incredible contributors to the Farm Owners Academy community. In this interview, we share their story and reflect and celebrate: the courage they have shown to scale in today's climate successfully; their ability to back themselves and make bold growth decisions; the importance of strong financial acumen AND a positive money mindset; the value of benchmarking and regular farm performance analysis; the power of a concise strategic plan and feeling aligned as a family and on-farm team; and the confidence that strong mentors, coaches and community can play in supporting your success. Whilst very different in personality, I am always so impressed by the love and strength shared between Hayley & Marty. They truly make a fantastic team. Marty & Hayley, congratulations on your success over the last 5 years, for your courage, optimism and determination. You deserve all the success that comes your way. Your comments in this podcast are worthy of bottling and will offer genuine inspiration to so many husband & wife farm teams across our industry. Thank you for your openness and reflecting with me on your journey. We value you greatly and cannot wait to see what the future brings as you build from the incredible farming platform and leadership capability you have created. Congratulations, and thank you. To your success, Hutch & Team

In this episode I am joined by Jack Merrett. Jack shares some of his stories from growing up on a farm with zero interest in farming at all and tells us about how minitrucks ended up in the small Country Victorian town of Kaniva. Jack and I talked about his start in the world of minitrucks as well as his growing collection of Iconic trucks from early on in the scene. We got to chat about his passion project, Lumberjack Creative and how it started out vs how it's going now. We did have a couple of issues to contend with in this episode from a fair delay at times to a failed audio upload. If I have done my job right, you hopefully should not be able to notice it too much. I had an awesome time getting to know Jack in this episode and I hope all enjoy his story. Today's 'GRDC in Conversation' podcast interview is with Mark Merrett. Mark is a sixth-generation farmer from Kaniva in western Victoria where his family runs a mixed operation of winter cropping and sheep. Mark always wanted to become a farmer but he's also a natural communicator. His Merrett Contracting YouTube videos have been viewed thousands of times and they're helping to connect people from around the world with farm life. GRDC in Conversation is a limited series of the GRDC Podcast. It features in depth, long-form interviews with growers and other experts in the grains industry. It aims to help growers explore research outcomes and ideas through a different perspective. Interviewer Oli Le Lievre – presenter of Humans of Agriculture – weaves a story not just about the technical innovations but the expertise, history and personal background, influences and motivation of each guest.

This was a pretty fun one to record and ticked a big bucket list for our show. We talked about visiting the sheep farm of Trav and Millie Carter in Episode 24 - A real life farmer's wife, and in May 2021 - Emma did just that. Listen to excerpts from Emma's visit to the massive 5000 acre sheep farm and Trav the farmer who works the land. There's so much more to farming than many of us think, and these people really need to be a bit of a jack of all trades. There's also a lot of technology now involved - which we got to experience on a real life tractor ride! Shout out to all our fans in Kaniva, Victoria and thank you for listening! It was such a joy to get to experience some of that country hospitality at a local fundraiser and to meet some of the wonderful people Millie had spoken about. It was also so wonderful for Emma to get experience a whole new side of her own country! Make sure to get out and do the same!

When we got our first listener email, we were ecstatic! The fact that it was from a mutual friend of Darius and I was even better and we decided we must have her on the show!! Meet Millie! Millie grew up in Sydney and at age 18 drove nearly halfway across Australia to work for a man she had never met, riding racehorses in Kaniva, Victoria. After 12 months, she returned to Sydney to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts / Bachelor of Arts at COFA / UNSW. Her heart never left the country and 15 years later, she is married to local farmer Travis raising three kids under five on the land. Travis and Millie in partnership with Travis's parents have a certified organic mixed farming enterprise, including 5000 merino sheep which Travis shears himself. Listen as we learn more about the life of a farmer's wife and what it's like living in a rural country town of Australia! You'll be as captivated as we were listening to Millie's wonderful tales of farm life.

As we draw closer to the 2019 SANFL season, Bevo had a great chat with 2018 North Adelaide Premiership skipper Max Thring. Maxy talked about his footy career in Kaniva and moving to Adelaide and becoming a Premiership Captain. He also shared how special it was to win the Roosters first flag since 1991 and dished the dirt on some of his team mates with Lewis Hender's love for Married at First Sight being one of the talking points!
Roses Gabor joined Mikill as a special guest co-host for one week only whilst Marcel was away, and her and Mikill discussed her new album, which is coming out in February 2019. The first guest in the studio was Javeon, who was in to talk about his new music, but also seemed to spend most of his time correcting the way Mikill and the team pronounced his name . Also on the show was Kaniva, who was in to talk about his new release ‘OK', and shared the story of how he overcame being on life support with meningitis. Finally, Mercston was in the studio and teased an unreleased collaboration with Mikill!
