Love is a tricky subject. Left to our own devices we skew God's true intentions for loving relationships to fit our selfish motives. As Christians we are called, we are COMMANDED to love one another. But how could we do that if we no longer know what true love is? There is no doubt 2020 has been a rough year. 2021 offers a new perspective on your life as well as your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Have you ever noticed how children act differently when their parents are in the room? Imagine what would happen if the Creator of the Universe was sitting next to us. That's the Christmas story. Jesus was given the name Immanuel, "God With Us." God stepped down from the splendor of Heaven and came to Earth so that we could have a personal relationship with Him, but we tend to forget that. We tend to become complacent with our devotion, with our worship, and with our relationships. Our complacency comes to the point we no longer remember that God is with us. We separate ourselves from our Father. Imagine the change that would take place if Jesus was next to us when we worship, next to us in our alone time, next to us in the hard times. BUT THAT IS THE SECRET (and it's not even a secret...). GOD IS WITH US. This week, Chris and Pastor Andrew dive into some of the changes that could and should take place in our everyday walk with Christ when we realize God is with us. This is a special Christmas episode with a little holiday cheer added. From all of us at Deep Dive 4 Life, we wish every listener a safe and merry Christmas. We would love to hear from you! The Lord's Prayer is powerful. You know, the disciples could have asked Jesus for anything, but they asked Him to show them how to pray. Prayer is our connection with our Creator, thanks to Jesus. So who better to show us how to pray than the Creator Himself? What does following Jesus really look like? This week Chris and Andrew dive into the first principle: Humility & Fasting. True humility can be an elusive trait for modern Christians. We need to ensure we neither think too highly of ourselves nor think of ourselves as worthless. It can be simple to sway too far to either side, so we look to scripture to show us how to remain humble. One tool mentioned in scripture is fasting. Fasting is an act of depriving ourselves of something to redirect our focus on something else; in a Christian's case, we would hopefully be redirecting ourselves to God and aligning ourselves with His will. However, we would like to warn you about becoming legalistic. It can be easy to become focused on the rules involved with fasting alone and not the main reason for completing a fast. Also, a word of warning, please do not fast to the point of putting yourself in danger. If you have any questions about fasting or humility, feel free to reach out to us at deepdive4life@gmail.com. We would love to answer some of your questions on the show! But the conversation does not end here! Dive in with Chris and Andrew as we tackle the question, what does a Christian look like? This is part two of a short two-part series on how Christians SHOULD live compared to how we normally do. We look at passages from the gospel of John. It's easy to see that Christians are not living up to our full potential. With influences from the world pulling us away from what we should be focused on, Christians have to stay vigilant. We are bombarded with desires to become one with the world, and yet we are called to be God's children. As scripture tells us, we are called to be "in" the world, yet not "of" the world. Do you see the issue here? We must remind ourselves to keep diving into scripture in order to realign ourselves daily and keep from becoming one with the world. Dive in with Chris and Andrew as we tackle the question, "what's the cost to follow Christ?" This is part two of a short two-part series on what Jesus meant when He says to "count the cost" before following Him. We look at passages from Mark 8, Romans 12, and Psalms 84. Choosing to follow Jesus is no laughing matter. Salvation is by grace through faith and not something we can earn or atone for ourselves, but, having a relationship with Christ will cost us. In fact, it will cost us everything. In our eyes it may be expensive, but remember, we only see things from a worldly perspective. God has a plan for our stuff and our lives. Sure we may not understand what that plan may be in the moment, but we have faith that God is at work for our good. But the conversation does not end here!
