Former Scientologist Chris Shelton spent thousands of hours using the e-meter to "audit" fellow members of the Church—but what does the device actually measure, and why do Scientologists trust it as an infallible guide to the truth? Chris takes us inside a typical auditing session, explaining the personal questions auditors ask, the needle movements they watch for, and what they believe those reactions reveal. We compare the e-meter with the polygraph, explore how relentless questioning can produce false memories and confessions, and examine how auditors can sincerely believe they are helping even when their methods become coercive or abusive. If you're interested in Scientology, interrogation, or behavior reading, this is a fascinating look at how a simple machine can acquire enormous power through belief. Raëlism is a UFO-centered new religious movement founded in France in 1974 by Claude Vorilhon, who later called himself Raël. He claimed that extraterrestrial scientists known as the Elohim contacted him and revealed that they created all life on Earth through advanced genetic engineering. Raëlians interpret ancient gods, angels and religious miracles as misunderstood encounters with these beings, while figures such as Jesus, Buddha and Muhammad are viewed as messengers sent by the Elohim. Raëlians generally reject a supernatural God and an immortal soul. Instead, they believe science—especially cloning and memory transfer—could eventually allow humans to overcome death. Their practices include “sensual meditation,” personal freedom, sexual openness, nonviolence and enthusiasm for scientific advancement. A major goal of the movement is constructing an official embassy where the Elohim could someday return publicly to Earth. These teachings remain religious claims rather than scientifically established facts, and the movement has attracted controversy over its leadership structure, sexual teachings and highly publicized but unverified human-cloning claims.
As the Rocky movies demonstrate, hero myths can create cults. Joe talks about the homage paid to the Rocky statue on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and relates it to the cult that arose from the tale of Ulysses' Odyssey. There are many examples of cult formation around fascinating narratives; Joe and Jon touch on Star Wars, The Matrix, the Arthurian legends, The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, as well as The Da Vinci Code, showing how stories easily become doctrines believed by many. What if the United States was never immune to cult thinking, but was built on it? Journalist Jane Borden joins Gwendolyn and Rudy to unpack her book Cults Like Us: Why Doomsday Thinking Drives America, tracing a direct line from Puritan doomsday belief to modern conspiracy theories, self-help culture, and our national obsession with strongmen and influencers. We dig into how to actually define a cult (without being hyperbolic about it), the surprising overlap between cults and conspiracy theories, why doomsday predictions are so effective for cult leaders, and what role the justice system plays when belief crosses into control. We also explore why cult stories captivate us the way true crime does and, most importantly, what actually happens in the moment someone's critical thinking finally breaks through the isolation a cult creates. A conversation about American history, critical thinking skills, and the psychology of belief that might change how you see the news, your feed, and the country itself. Season 2, Episode 130In this episode, Michael and Zach return to their series on cults and religious movements to respond to comments generated by their recent episodes on Roman Catholicism. Rather than mocking commenters or attempting to settle every Catholic-Protestant disagreement, they address several recurring objections concerning biblical authority, church history, the canon of Scripture, Martin Luther, justification by faith alone, good works, and James 2. Along the way, they clarify frequently misunderstood Protestant beliefs and emphasize the importance of representing opposing views fairly, listening carefully, and pursuing truth without theological tribalism.Find our videocast here: https://youtu.be/R-DXowRaxSoMerch here: https://take-2-podcast.printify.me/Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):https://uppbeat.io/t/reakt-music/deep-stoneLicense code: 2QZOZ2YHZ5UTE7C8Find more Take 2 Theology content at http://www.take2theology.com

#Logos #Orthodoxy #Christianity In this stream I discuss the popular argument going around social media and among a few academics such as John Marco Alegro arguing that Christianity is in origin a fertility cult that mythologized Jesus Christ from the ancient inebriating rituals surrounding psychedelic mushroom use. When placed into historical context, I argue that all the visual evidence for this theory fails to have significant merit and may very well been part of a esoteric gnostic ritual. Make sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think. God Bless

Maveron partner Natalie Dillon joins Brian and Alicia to challenge the consumer-collapse narrative: sentiment sits at post-9/11 lows while spending breaks records. Natalie sheds light on truths of today's consumer, who is skeptical but continually shopping amid a cultural undertow where AI adoption stays surprisingly shallow, Gen Z turns skeptical, and analog living re-emerges as status. PLUS: Are cults the new future of commerce? Your Gen Z Consumer Is Busy Touching Grass Key takeaways: Shoppers reallocated rather than retreated. Stats show fewer purchases that are higher value and more intentional. AI adoption stays shallow, but health and wellness is the emerging opportunity, especially among consumers aged 35+. Gen Z, the presumed AI natives, skew most negative, fueling an analog revival. Costco remains the disciplined benchmark for marketing, merchandise, and customer experience. [26:30] "Gen Z spikes the most negative on AI across age groups, which was shocking." — Natalie Dillon [43:09] "I do think some companies still look to Costco…but I think no one has disciplined themselves to the extent that Costco has." — Natalie Dillon Associated Links: Learn more about Maveron Maveron consumer research report "Your Body is a Data Land" (Future Commerce, 2017) Check out Future Commerce on YouTube Check out Future Commerce Plus for exclusive content and save on merch and print Subscribe to Insiders and The Senses to read more about what we are witnessing in the commerce world Listen to our other episodes of Future Commerce Have any questions or comments about the show? This sermon exposes Freemasonry as a deceptive cult that promotes salvation through human effort and secret rites rather than faith in Jesus Christ. The speaker contrasts Masonic teachings, which deify man and deny the deity of Christ, with biblical truth found in passages like 2 Corinthians 11 and Galatians 2. Emphasizing that righteousness comes only through grace, the preacher warns believers to test all religious claims against Scripture. Using John 1:29 as a central witness tool, the message affirms Jesus as the sole Savior who takes away sin. The sermon concludes with an urgent call to reject Masonic doctrines and rely exclusively on Christ for eternal life.
In this solo episode of Get Obsessed, host Julie Lokun opens up about the routines, rituals, and rabbit holes currently running her summer. She walks listeners through her non-negotiable morning routine — a one-hour walk, meditation, and setting a daily intention — and explains why mindset work has to happen before the to-do list. From there, Julie dives into her self-proclaimed identity as a "conference junkie," reflecting on her recent experience at BookThinkers and why in-person networking still drives more business growth than almost anything else available to entrepreneurs and content creators today. The episode also covers Julie's current skincare obsession with The Ordinary, available at Sephora, and why affordable, high-impact skincare ingredients like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid are changing the beauty industry's cost conversation. Of course, no episode is complete without an update on her two French Bulldogs, Axl and Violet. In this episode of Profiling Evil, I sit down with Sarah Edmondson and Anthony “Nippy” Ames from A Little Bit Culty for a raw and honest conversation about cult behavior, coercive control, undue influence and the slow erosion of personal autonomy. They were inside NXIVM, the organization led by Keith Raniere, who was convicted in federal court in 2019 of racketeering, sex trafficking, attempted sex trafficking, forced labor conspiracy and other crimes. In 2020, Raniere was sentenced to 120 years in prison. But this conversation isn't just about NXIVM. It's about how control can be disguised as self-improvement, leadership training, discipline, personal growth, spiritual development or belonging. Sarah and Nippy explain how people don't usually walk into a destructive group knowing what it really is. They walk in because they're looking for purpose, community, answers, confidence, healing or a better version of themselves. That's what makes this discussion so important. We talk about the first hooks, the love bombing, the status systems, the pressure to ignore red flags, the “us versus them” thinking, the sunk cost fallacy, the fear of admitting you were wrong and the painful moment when a person finally realizes the leader is not who they claimed to be.Sarah shares how her intuition warned her early, but how those warnings were slowly trained out of her. Nippy talks about susceptibility, blind spots, loyalty, shame and why assuming “that could never happen to me” may be one of the most dangerous beliefs a person can carry.Their podcast, A Little Bit Culty, focuses on helping people understand, heal from and avoid abusive systems “one little red flag at a time,” and their book, A Little Bit Culty, is described as a guide to understanding how manipulation and control take hold, and how people can begin to break free. From a criminal behavior perspective, this episode looks at how predatory personalities study vulnerability. They don't always begin with threats. Often, they begin with charm, praise, status, access and the promise that you can become something better if you'll just trust the process. That's where control gets dangerous. Not when it looks obvious, but when it looks helpful. This is a conversation for parents, students, true crime followers, faith communities, business leaders, coaches, creators and anyone who wants to better understand coercive control before it reaches the point of crisis. Because cult tactics aren't limited to cults. They can show up in relationships, workplaces, political movements, wellness groups, online communities, business cultures and anywhere a person uses trust to gain power over someone else.#ProfilingEvil #ALittleBitCulty #SarahEdmondson #NippyAmes #NXIVM #KeithRaniere #CoerciveControl #UndueInfluence #CultBehavior #CultSurvivors #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeCommunity #CrimeCon #CriminalBehavior #PredatorBehavior #Manipulation #Gaslighting #LoveBombing #PsychologicalControl #SurvivorVoices #CrimeAnalysis #BehavioralAnalysis #CultRecovery #RedFlags #TrueCrimePodcast #MappingEvil========================================A Little Bit Culty: https://alittlebitculty.com/========================================20% OFF Newspapers.comhttps://www.newspapers.com/go/podcast/?ref=profilingevil?xid=8877&utm_source=ProfilingEvilPodcast&utm_medium=podcst&utm_campaign=ProfilingEvil26========================================Discounts on eBikes: https://aipasbike.com/?ref=PROFILINGEVILReferral Coupon Code: PROFILINGEVIL========================================Email your questions to: ProfilingEvil@gmail.com========================================

Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: April, 2021This episode of Weird Darkness turns to Los Angeles, the City of Angels, and the almost overwhelming number of ghosts, haunted hotels, and occult history hiding behind its glamour, from the Magic Castle and the Cecil Hotel to the sex-magick rocket scientist Jack Parsons, cult leader Father Yod, and the ghosts of Griffith Park.It opens inside Hollywood's Magic Castle at 7001 Franklin Avenue, the private clubhouse of the Academy of Magical Arts, where the Houdini Séance Room honors a magician who spent his career trying to debunk spiritualism and left his wife Bess the code phrase "Rosabelle, believe" for contact from the afterlife. The castle carries the story of Irma, the piano-playing ghost said to have died in 1932 and returned to the mansion built in 1909 by Rollin B. Lane, along with the ghost of magician Dai Vernon near his favorite seat in the Palace of Prestidigitation, the unidentified girl in the Haunted Cellar, and a Halloween 2011 fire that started at the exact time of Houdini's 1926 death and gutted the Dante Room while sparing the Houdini Room. From there the episode checks into the haunted hotels of Los Angeles, beginning with the Knickerbocker, which opened in Hollywood in July of 1929, hosted Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio on their honeymoon, and staged Bess Houdini's tenth and final rooftop séance the night an isolated thunderstorm struck the building alone. It moves through the Ambassador on Wilshire Boulevard, where Robert F. Kennedy was gunned down by Sirhan Sirhan in the kitchen on June 4, 1968, the Rosslyn Annex with its forgotten Prohibition speakeasy, the Alexandria and its bricked-off phantom wing, the Biltmore where Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia, was last seen before her 1947 murder, and the Cecil Hotel, home to serial killers Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger and the site where guest Elisa Lam was found dead in the rooftop water tank in 2013 after guests complained the water tasted strange.Next the episode traces L.A.'s long history of the occult, running from Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and his early Pasadena partnership with rocket scientist Jack Parsons, who performed the "Babalon Working" ritual and later died at 37 in a home laboratory explosion, to Charles Manson and the Family murders of August 1969 that killed Sharon Tate and six others, Carlos Castaneda and the Yaqui shaman Don Juan Matus who launched the New Age movement, and Jim Baker, the marine turned messiah Father Yod, who took fourteen wives and led the Source Family from a Hollywood Hills mansion. It covers avant-garde filmmaker Kenneth Anger and the witch Marjorie Cameron, the 1920 LAPD raid on the Mazdaznan sun-worshipers, the love-cult of Edith Maida Lessing at Mount Helios, the Devil's Gate Dam in Pasadena, and the curse Petronilla Feliz laid on the land that became Griffith Park. The episode closes with a tour of famous L.A. ghosts: the more than one hundred jumpers off Pasadena's Colorado Street "suicide bridge," including Myrtle Ward, whose daughter survived the fall; the body parts Marines found in a freezer at the abandoned Rancho Los Amigos hospital in 2006; picnic table number 29 in Griffith Park, where a couple was crushed by a falling tree in 1976; Bela Lugosi's hearse drifting past his favorite cigar shop; the many spirits of the Queen Mary docked in Long Beach; the unsolved 1929 deaths of Ned Doheny and Hugh Plunkett at Greystone Mansion; the ghost of Superman actor George Reeves; and Bob Baker, still haunting his marionette theater alongside the dead puppeteers who worked there.

Honey, who Hijacked the Kids? Is Nanotech in your blood, and everywhere else? Is it an interface with your devices? Are smart dust sensors all over, including within? What's that they're spraying above? Is this a final component to make us hackable animals? Are the devices you give your children changing them but not just by program influence? Is there a technological component that is altering their personality and sending information back and forth from their phones and the tech within them? Are the towers and their EMR frequency emissions also saturating our environment with manipulative power over how we think and treat one another? Parasitic tech is contaminating us all. To what extent is left to be determined.Connor Murphy is allegedly dead by drowning, and people [his so-called friends] who have no idea how to piece together a thought, and who themselves have no depth of character, are all chiming in to blame Connor's many odd personas and behaviors on Ayahuasca. That may have been the event, but it wasn't the cause. It was the experience derived from it, maybe. Remember you can't bronze a turd, and you can't level up in the spiritual caste system if you are a Hylic. You simply lack the essential component. Sand can't be water. It can be very troubling if you see too much, if you have even a short holiday out of the spell cast on your perception. Gnosis is something that bares some very unsettling realizations, as well as the self-actualization potential. The "remembering" of who you are. If you get sent the signal that you are an intruder and you don't belong in that realm of awareness, it may be detrimental. Not because you were mistaken, or hallucinating. But because you were more right than most everyone in the sense that you saw more truth and saw through more BS. The problem is when you have no actual escape route. Knowing is a curse to those still stuck in the snow globe, or the mouse maze.Let's see what's being posted and talked about on that there social media thingy. What is your feed dumping in your trough? Did you ask for it? Wouldn't you like to have more variety and less thought and perception manipulation by these sites? Ever feel like there's a force out there attempting to radicalize you? EPISODE 167 | American Trickster: The Cults of Carlos Castaneda Guest: Ru Marshall, American writer and artist Carlos Castaneda made a big splash with his books about the Yaqui shaman Don Juan, but there was a lot more happening than just those increasingly fantastical tales. A wellness MLM does not announce itself as a cult. It arrives as a smoothie recipe, a flyer of smiling mothers, and a promise of working from home while you take your health back. My recent guest on Cults, Culture & Coercion, Brandie Hadfield, lived inside one for a decade. She is a Registered Psychotherapist and co-founder of the peer support nonprofit Flipping the Pyramid, and she spent roughly ten years selling supplements for a wellness MLM before she understood she had been recruited into a commercial cult. Brandie was a new mother in 2011, isolated and exhausted, when the pitch found her. I invite you to notice how ordinary the entry point was, because the same machinery now drives coaching programs, prosperity preaching, and the speculative frenzy around cryptocurrency, which I consider a form of multi-level marketing. A small group sells the dream, recruits everyone else to buy in, and the people at the top profit while almost everyone below them loses money. Her recruitment began with a parenting book by a famous pediatrician and a home-based coaching certification. She paid for the courses, the workbooks, and the materials. Then a package arrived in the mail from the pediatrician's daughter, inviting her into the MLM the family sat near the top of. Brandie saw it later for what it was. A funnel. She is intelligent, devoted, and the kind of employee who gives more than anyone asks. Recruiters prize those traits. Her ADHD, undiagnosed at the time, sharpened her focus into something the group put to use. “My kind of tunnel vision and focus and tenacity, which can be a beautiful aspect of having ADHD, was really exploited,” she told me. Brandie was a mother with undiagnosed ADHD raising a son later identified as autistic. Isolation, a hunger for belonging, and a tendency to commit fully to a mission left her exposed. Her graduate research examined narcissistic leadership in commercial cults and its impact on neurodivergent people, and it filled a gap she had felt firsthand. She wants to help others now. A fascinating interview. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Kentucky, 1933. An event happened that stunned America and made headlines around the nation. The trial became a national focus. Vendors, food trucks and entertainers all showed and it became a circus. What caused all of this? Who was on trial? What shocked the nation? It was the sacrifice of the cult referred to by locals as the Cult of the Unknown Tongues.Email us at: downtherh@protonmail.com

In Part 1, we get into Canadian immigration, the new clergy, socially conservative leftism, wokeism and cancel culture, Iran, Zionism, Palestinian history, and the way anti-imperialism can collapse into third-world campism. In Part 2, we go deeper into desire, decay, democracy, dating apps, monogamy, the family, IQ, education, Enlightenment racism, political theology, property, and the limits of far-left projects.Timestamps:0:00 The Backroom Preview03:16 Introduction07:50 Graeber & Anthropology on The Left21:58 Egalitarianism vs Hierarchy, Communism, Cults & Charismatic Authority42:36 Delegated Power and Equality47:46 What Is Politics?50:39 The Distribution of Power54:17 The New Clergy Class01:05:40 Conservative vs Liberal is not Left vs Right01:13:24 The Backroom PreviewGUEST:Daniel / What Is Politics?YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/WHATISPOLITICS69FOLLOW 1Dime:Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/OneDimeSubstack: https://1dimereview.substack.com/X/Twitter: https://x.com/1DimeOfficialInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/tonyof1dime/Main channel: https://www.youtube.com/@1DimeeLeave a like, comment your thoughts, and subscribe to 1Dime Radio.
On September the 11th 2001, the worst terrorist attack of all time happened at the twin towers of The World Trade Centre in Lower Manhattan New York City. The world of Tania Head changed that day, she claimed she was on the upper floor of The World Trade Centre South Tower when the plane hit where she sustained life changing injuries to her arm. She was rescued by a firefighter - Welles Crowther and somehow she managed to avoid the gore floor of sky lobby, the floor with the largest loss of life in the whole tower. Tania's survival story was wild and other survivors rallied around her to prop her up, she was so revered as a pillar of support by other survivors that they elected her as the president of the main survivors support group. but soon, other survivors started to notice cracks in her story and when a reporter delved deeper, they found that she may not have been telling the truth and soon, things started to unravel in a spectacular fashion. High-control groups, or cults, are defined in part by members being prevented from making their own choices without even realizing it. While the exact number isn't known, experts estimate there are thousands of cults operating in the United States today. Typical red flags include leaders exerting influence and control over the actions of their followers through both explicit and unstated but understood rules and social norms that come with consequences if they're not followed. In Medina County, former members of the Restored Church of God in Wadsworth say they've escaped a cult led by founder David Pack. Cleveland Scene staff writer Mark Oprea talked with several people who have left this church about their experiences both inside and outside its walls revealing rules about marriage, dating and relationships, incredible financial commitments from members, and more. On Thursday's "Sound of Ideas," we dig into Oprea's reporting with him and two of the people he interviewed for his story about this religious group. We also talk with an expert who will share insight on what rises to the level of an organization being considered a cult, and how to seek help if you or someone you love might be involved with one. We reached out to the Restored Church of God to invite the founder or another representative to be part of this conversation. They declined our invitation and did not directly address assertions that the church is a cult. You can read the statement we received below. Restored Church of God statement to Sound of Ideas: “The perspective reflected in Mr. Oprea's reporting does not represent the experience of the overwhelming majority of people who have interacted with The Restored Church of God over many years. Members, former members, visitors, neighbors, vendors, public officials, and others have interacted with the Church over decades. If the objective is to understand our organization fairly, those perspectives are at least as relevant as those of a small number of former employees. “While individual experiences naturally vary, the perspectives attributed to a small number of former employees do not represent the overwhelming majority of those who have known or interacted with The Restored Church of God over decades.” Former members dispute the above statement's accuracy. Restore Church of God ministers Carl Houk and Edward Winkfield also responded via email to several written questions we sent them. Those responses are included in Thursday's show. Guests: - Mark Oprea, Staff Writer, Cleveland Scene- Kevin Denee, Son-in-law of founder, Former Restored Church of God Minister & Member- Marc Cebrian, Exrcg.org operator, Former Restored Church of God Member- Adam Kunz, Ph.D., Board Member of Lalich Center on Cults and Coercion, Associate Professor of Political Science, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

9/11 was an event which changed the world forever. On the 9th of September 2001, two planes flew into the twin towers of The World Trade Centre and the devastation left in the wake of the attack was enormous. As the dust settled, ground zero was cleared and a war was launched, there were some people left out of the narrative. The focus from the press was solely on the dead and the impact on the city but thousands of survivors were left without support. People decided to join together, turning to online chat rooms to find community and connection. As people shared their stories of escape, witness testimonies and injuries, one tale stood out. This came from a survivor who had against all odds, managed to make it out from a floor no one else had. As people connected to her tale, they felt bad for her and thanked their lucky stars they weren't in her shoes, but half a decade later, someone started looking into her story and the seeds of doubt were starting to sprout. But was Tania Head a woman of her word or was she weaving a web of deceit... let's find outIf you're interested in more true crime deep dives, hit subscribe and ring the bell to stay updated.HUGE thanks goes to SNAG for sponsoring this series. When Lara Kaput was eight years old, she was required to clean bricks on Jehovah's Witness building sites. She helped her father road-build on the church construction projects. She did cleaning, and gardening, and her childhood friends did this, and cleaning child-minding too. None of it paid, none very little of it optional. She did not recognize it as child labor at the time. Most children raised inside authoritarian groups do not. That is how it works. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Lara on Cults, Culture & Coercion, and what she brought to this conversation is the kind of ground-level, decade-long investigative knowledge that is genuinely rare. Lara is a prominent Australian activist and whistleblower, a co-founder of the advocacy group Say Sorry (saysorry.org), and a former vice president of the Secular Association of New South Wales. For nine years she has provided testimony and submissions to governments, law enforcement, and royal commissions across approximately 10 countries, specifically concerning the Watchtower Society, theone of the legal names for the organization known publicly as the Jehovah's Witnesses. Lara has made approximately 30 or more submissions to governments across roughly 10 countries around the globe. The allegations she has documented and reported fall into several categories, and she was careful throughout our conversation to frame these as allegations, as the matters are either under investigation or have not yet been adjudicated. They include: aiding and abetting child sexual abuse, high rates of domestic violence, intentional contract breaches, document forgery, evidence and records destruction, interference with members' democratic rights, phoenixing of businesses (the deliberate voluntary dissolution of one company to restart another, shedding liabilities while preserving assets and customers), multi-billion-dollar global property liquidation she alleges constitutes financial fraud, modern slavery, and manipulation of privacy law, and perverting the course of justice.
