Today we sit down and gab about the different styles of homeschooling. The 8 main ones we think are important for anyone looking into homeschooling to research. Listen in as we go over some fantastic education styles for home schooling.here we go!!!
In this Episode, Charity and I sit down and chat about learning groups that our family is involved in to help enrich, supplement and straight up cover sections of our kids education. Our time is valuable isn't it? We have to choose very carefully what to say yes to as a family and are learning that in opportunities that arise, no matter how amazing they may be, do not get a YES without careful consideration and prayer. For us in this season, this means a combo effect between Co-op, and our Wild and Free Group! Today you'll get the nitty gritty of how these work for our family and what they offer. We also go into detail about the past history of co-ops, what groups for homeschoolers used to look like, what they are now, and how Charter schools and the Distributed Learning model play in to all of this! Sneak Peak.....Charity is a Wild and Free group leader and has an amazing group of like minded Mama's that meet twice a month for outdoor learning, exploring and relationship building. Our kids LOVE IT! Also starting up for us soon will be our children's Co-op group they are in. In the Co-op, they cover more specific topics and can dive pretty deep into them.Listen in to get all the info!!!
We are looking forward to having you listen to this episode with us! In this Episode Dale and I (Charity) are podcasting on the move, in the desert!!! We are away on vacation but are still devoted to getting this content to you guys. This is our first podcast where we are without our normal equipment so please excuse any change in sound quality. We wanted to get this out to you though and be able to share some of our home school plans for the year with you before we get too deep into pumpkin spice lattes and wool socks. I regularly post about our homeschool adventures on my Instagram, but in this episode Dale quizzes me on all the questions I normally get asked about how we home educate. If you have more question that we didn't have time to cover, (because let's be honest, the list could go on forever and we should really just have you over to sit on our deck...) the best way to get in contact with us is to DM us on Instagram or leave your feedback through a review on i-tunes. (A 5-star rating is extra nice, and we'd love you forever... hint hint!) Enjoy, friends!
In this episode, Nathan Clarkson (@nathanjclarkson) joins us to talk about his newest book, 'Good Man.' He's an actor, movie producer, best-selling author, and artist. Many of you will know him as the third-born son of mainstream ministry mentor, Sally Clarkson. We all hit it off right away and are so excited to have you listen in on this conversation. Current culture is not doing our men any favors in helping them find who they are meant to be, and many are facing an identity crisis. Nathan addresses this in his book by way of a personal biography and honest look at what men are capable of. He calls them to 'more' than what culture tells them is possible. To live an honest and authentic life. A hero story. We are so thrilled to be able to have his voice on our podcast today as many of us are raising boys and Heartwood Acres is committed to coming alongside families who are on the same journey as us, as we strive for 'more' for our families. Today Dale and I chatted about how to talk to our kids about hard things. We were really excited about this episode because it is dear to our hearts. We work daily on having deep and rich relationships with each of our children, and much of the foundation for that comes from the conversations we have with them. Even from young ages, children are impacted by the voices they hear and who's voices those are. This is not a light issue. It is important and live-long impacting. Sometimes, it feels like it downright sucks and we are wading through a swamp to figure out how to even start. But in the end, when we have good relationships with our children, it is always worth starting the conversation.
Today I (Charity) have the privilege of highlighting a Mama from my Wild and Free group in beautiful British Columbia. Ellen Milley and her family love travel, and have learned to weave it into their daughters education beautifully. She gives us a valuable cultural contrast in regards to education, and speaks into Mama hearts who are yearning to develop deep connection with their children and just don't feel right about leaving their children at the Kindergarten door.
In this Episode, I (Dale) sit down while the Family plays outside, I talk about how when we moved out to our property the intention was to live slower and be more intentional with our time. I discuss how sometimes this comes easily, and sometimes it takes more effort when life tries to carry us away with it. But we always come back to our priorities and our family values. You'll get a little snap shot of what we are up to in Spring 2020, and what we are excited about.
Charity was able to chat with another Wild and Free homeschooling Mama on all aspects of how they live life to the full in beautiful British Columbia. Amber VanHengel works from home, and also homeschool's her three children. She gives us a picture of how they cultivate joy, blocks of time for learning, and lots of extra margin for creativity and unique learning spaces.
Today we grab a seat ourselves and sit down to chat while our kids enjoy the sudden sun amidst a whole lotta rain! We have been busy over here with renovations and now a new sun deck. We give you a glimpse into our world and doing big projects yourself at home when you have a family. Kids in the mix is a whole lot different than on a job site.We also discuss how to teach children the value of work, having a good attitude, and creating a positive family work culture. Then we give our wisdom on the teenagers we don't even have yet!
In this episode, we have the privilege of chatting with Jenni Dowling, the violinist of our favorite family band, 'The Hunts.' They are an indie-alternative folk band from Virginia and a family deeply rooted in togetherness, hard work, and following dreams. Jenni is grown up now and has her own little family in Virginia. She is Mother to little Jude and married to Danny Dowling. You will hear her speak on her own experiences of Motherhood, reflections on her own Mother, as well as encouragement and truth in this sweet life of raising up young and loving them fully. Check out their First Album!
It's just me, Charity, in this Episode. Dale and the kids go play outside as I invite you into my heart and home, and welcome you as a friend coming over for tea. The topics are broad. But so is life! We love to be real at Heartwood Acres and this is about as real as it gets. I discuss how to cultivate manners in our children, my relationship with the Lord, and the value of nature as education. You even get a sneak peak into our home and the latest movie we watched as a family and why we recommend it! Spoiler alert- I may even sing for you. Raw and real, people!
In this episode, Dale and Charity share unique tips and tricks on how to make nature your classroom. They provide support on why nature is important to a child's education, and how to implement that in your own home. Charity admits that she has learned to 'ditch the books' some days and has grown to appreciate nature as a main tool in the education of her children. This episode also introduces the Heartwood Acres 'Nature Classroom Movement' and collectively encourages families to enhance observation skills in their children using nature, using two main branches. The scenic 'road trip' method, and the 'backyard classroom' method. Let's get out there and expand our worlds! The call of the Wild and Free - Ainsley Arment
