In Episode 20 Amber Karnes and Jivana Heyman sit to talk about chair yoga and how it can be used as a tool to democratize asana practice. We begin with a conversation about how lineage and “guru culture” are shifting as abuse is being revealed. Jivana and Amber also talk about the way dominant culture conflates health and wellness as a basis for a human being’s worth and value. They each share about the ways that this belief keeps folks from understanding the potential of chair yoga and creates more ableism in our yoga spaces. The conversation also talks in depth about how chair yoga can be used to serve folks in diverse bodies who have different needs from the physical practice. This week we explore: How the end of “Guru culture” through the revealing of ongoing abuse is shifting yoga culture How we continue to have a collective focus on extreme physical asana How Amber thinks about her learning lineage in yoga How Jivana thinks about his Guru and lineage How toxic diet culture and dominant culture have influenced who we see as an expert or “yoga celebrity” How props like chairs are still seen as less than in mainstream yoga spaces How we uphold health as the basis for value in others, on and off of the mat. How ableism How the sutras talk about our care, feelings and thought about our bodies The importance of creating right relationship with our body and spirit through acceptance How to easy use a chair to make the other limbs of the practice accessible to anyone How the chair can be used as a prop to support postures, making them more accessible This week’s question: What is the right relationship with your body?

Kimberly shares the importance of being open to discomfort as a gateway to embodied learning and culture shifting. Kimberly also talks richly about the ways we can honor our lived experiences and the fullness of who we are. Amber talks briefly about her recent Yoga Journal cover issue, including the history of harm the publication has had in yoga and wellness, and the importance of holding these large organizations accountable. This conversation is a rich exchange about the way our words can create belonging and affirm our students or our words can uphold systems of oppression and perpetuate a yoga practice that is inaccessible to most. How Amber feels about her recently released Yoga Journal Cover and the history of harm the publication has had in yoga and wellness. How the Sutras talk about the physical asana The focus of western yoga culture to center the physical aspects of the practice while ignoring the other parts How being in inquiry within the body empowers us to going into deeper inquiry around our thoughts and feelings How the phrase “full expression of the pose” creates a hierarchy in our yoga classes The importance of investing the language we use to teach this practice The importance of understanding the stories people are holding about using props How we unlearn ableism within our practice spaces and community How teaching the foundations and intentions of each pose removes hierarchy of physical ability The importance of giving our students agency and using language that empowers them, honors consent and welcomes folks to honor the bodies they have
In Episode 13, Jivana Heyman interviews Amber Karnes about her upcoming course, Making Peace With Your Body. Amber shares openly about why she chose to do this work and how this work is intertwined in her own experience as a fat person. This conversation talks about the toxic nature of diet culture, the harm inflicted on folks in larger bodies within the medical industrial complex, and the ways dominant culture devalues folks in bigger bodies. Amber shares about how we can divest ourselves from diet culture and lean into our personal power, and what body image work has to do with social justice. In this episode we dig in about: Why Amber began this work How Amber came to identify as fat How the medical industrial complex treats folks in larger bodies How diet culture shapes our wellness and yoga spaces. How we systems of oppression influence dieet culture and our widely held beauty standards How we each hold a hierarchy of bodies that devalue those in bigger bodies How all of the devaluation of larger bodies trickles down to influence the distribution of resources How fatphobia shows up in the decisions we make about food, dieting and wellness How much time and energy we put into trying to fix ourselves and fit into beauty standards How we can lean out of toxic diet culture and reclaim our personal power How we can heal the relationship we have with ourselves How disrupting toxic diet culture is a part of dismantling white supremacy and other systems of oppression How Amber’s new course will work and what to expect Today’s inquiry Each week we’ll leave you with a powerful question. We encourage you to sit in inquiry with this question, write about it, discuss it with another community member on this path. Today, we invite you to reflect on this question: What would you do with all the resources (money, energy, time, etc.) that you have spent on trying to fix yourself and your body if you could get it back?
Amber Brooks is the founder of Brandividuation® - a signature solution for evolving impact-driven brands and community builders who are here to take a stand and make a difference. She's a Marketing Consultant for Where We Help, Content Director for Rebelle Con, former Marketing Producer for Singularity University, and previous board member for several non-profit organizations. She helps founders and teams share their big, meaningful mission in a way that gets people to care about what they have to say and create a ripple effect from the impact they bring to the world. Now, she gets to share her experience and expertise expanding brand impact through in-person and online workshops and retreats. Here's what we covered on the episode: How Amber and I were introduced by Kira Hug a couple years ago After graduating college, Amber applied to 40+ jobs and was left frustrated because she had a degree but not the 5-10 years of experience the jobs wanted Amber decided to open her own business, doing copywriting because her degree was in english/research and thought she could use this skill to help people make a difference How Amber ended up working with clients who wanted a ton of copy but couldn't tell her what their business was about, who their ideal clients were, or what their vision was Amber started learning more about brand strategy, development, messaging and positioning to help her clients fill the gap they were missing, but discovered that's where her zone of genius lived Why Amber shed her copywriting identity after discovering her passion for branding and how she went completely in on brand messaging and marketing strategy Amber shares how she started the process to trademark her signature service last year when she didn't even have a name for it How Amber knew she needed to go all in because she saw that her clients needed this service and the designers who were working with people like her clients needed it Why Amber starts with brand dividuation because if a client doesn't already have their branding clearly defined and articulated into some core messaging, there's nothing they can do together Amber explains that logos, colors and fonts are representations of your brand but they are not actually your brand How your brand is the perception people have and believe about you and how you can influence that belief but you can't force them When Amber says brand, she's talking about your values, the things you stand for or against, the core messages that represent those beliefs, and how you connect with your ideal clients Amber shares that she helps people gets clear on what they care about and what their ideal clients care about and put those into some core messaging hierarchies in her marketing strategy How Amber has a creative director who partners with her for brand dividuation projects but how she also collaborates with other designers Amber explains the two paths for working with designers which are whitelisted services, where they can subcontract under Amber or they can refer their clients to Amber first and then start the project with their client after as the designer Amber talks about the division she sees between the messaging, visuals and copywriting but says if you can marry all those things, the client and their audience will get the best possible experience Amber gives tips for collaborating on a project and says you need a good relationship, see eye to eye and care about the whole experience and outcome for the client and their audience Amber's partnership toolkit for designers based on their decision to whitelist or refer that has a process mapped out for them and everything they need to make the project a success How there are people making a difference and impact but no one knows about it so Amber and the people she partners with help them share their stories Amber explains the difference between just having a website versus having a foundational platform that tells your audience the impact you're making After brand dividuation and after platform establishment, Amber does marketing VIP days and team trainings so they don't only build a brand, but a brand culture Amber shares when the best time to invest in branding is and how if you're new you need to talk to your audience and see what they respond to because it takes time to learn how to show up and serve at your best level Why Amber typically doesn't work with anyone until they are in the 2 - 5 year range depending on how fast they grow because a lot can change within the first year How Amber undervalued the branding service she offered at first because she thought people didn't understand the value of it and thought they only wanted to hire someone for the copy Why Amber kept evolving her branding service after working with more people who started to realize this gap as much as she did and started understanding that they can't do the copy until the branding is done Amber shares that her rates depend on the kind of business it is and how many employees because the amount of work it takes for the market research and development is different depending on the business Amber shares how being a mother to kids with complex medical issues has taught her about planning for uncertainty which has helped her structure her business in a way that has allowed her time to do the things she needs to do Amber walks us through how she schedules her weeks and blocks out her time in order to have time for research and writing and how she can shift and change her blocks of time if needed How finding balance and knowing that you don't have to be on all the time is key Why foundational, core inner work needs to be done for every business and how it adds so much value to the clients' experience and outcome Reach out and connect with Amber on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn; she would love to hear from you Links mentioned: Connect with Amber on her Website Connect with Amber on Instagram Connect with Amber on Facebook Connect with Amber on LinkedIn Like what you heard? JTG #54 Elevate Your Natural Haircare With Amber Makupson Founder of Meraki Organics Meraki was founded in 2018 by Amber Makupson, as a labor of self-love, self-empowerment and dedication to wellness. A native of Ohio, Amber moved and settled in Atlanta, Georgia at a young age, and started to focus on a healthy, holistic lifestyle and make her own natural remedies during her pregnancy when she developed skin sensitivities. Her background as a licensed aesthetician specialized in botanical treatments helped when, after suffering a serious chemical burn from an over-the-counter beauty product, Amber was fed up of the toxic ingredients damaging so many other women and decided to create Meraki Organics, a non-toxic vegan haircare brand infused with gemstones to nourish skin, hair, body and soul. “Meraki for me was created around the idea of self love, finding my passion for life, and being fearless in the pursuit of the things that set your soul on fire. The word “MERAKI” is a Greek word that means to do something with love, soul and creativity – to put the essence of yourself in your work. So essentially my brand combines Beauty+Wellness+Spirituality, to form high vibrational products that nourish your mind, body, hair, and soul.” In this episode Amber Makupson, founder of Meraki Organics tlaks to Journey To Glow host Caroline Frenette about: 1. Stones & crystals to have by your bed for optimum sleep 2. Looking to the energetics if you’re not feeling like yourself 3. The importance of rituals of self-care and cleansing your energy especially if you’re picking up on the collective energy at this time 4. A quick way to get out of your head and into wisdom 5. Hey friends! Have you ever wondered what it might be like to turn your hobby into a business? That’s exactly what today’s guest, Amber Kemp-Gerstel did and today she came on to talk about her journey in the crafting industry. Amber is a powerhouse. Not only does she have a blog called Damask Love but she also runs YayDay Paper Co., selling digital products and leveraging a subscription model. You might recognize her from NBC’s TV show, Making It (she was a finalist in 2018) or from being the host of Disney Family Sundays on Disney+. In this episode, she talks about how she got into her business and how she was able to start working with big brands in the industry. She shares some tips for how she sends pitches and why you have to make it really easy for people to say, ‘yes!’ We also talk about why representation matters and how the creative community can step up to uplift other artists, crafters and makers of color. This is very important work that we’re taking seriously at Proof to Product and I appreciated her for sharing her thoughts and opinions about how we can take steps forward with grace (even though we may make mistakes along the way). ON TODAY’S EPISODE: How Amber went from working in family and child psychology to being a strong force in the crafting world The lightbulb moment where she realized it was time to quit her job How she got into working with brands like JoAnn Fabrics and Martha Stewart Living What Amber includes in pitches she sends to brands Why you should make it simple for people to say “yes” to you Why she decided to do a business model built off of digital products and leveraging a subscription model Her tips for marketing your products to your audience How Amber makes her voice heard despite the lack of diversity and visibility for women of color in the crafting space Why representation is needed in every industry Why you should do the things you can practically do to better the community for everyone What Amber is working on right now in her businesses For full show notes and resources, head to: bit.ly/PTPEp164 Small Wins Lead to Big Wins Building a business is a long game, won with patience, fortitude, intentional decisions and passion. In this episode, I'm bringing my good friend Amber Vilhauer. Amber is one of the experts to the experts. She focuses on helping impact-driven influencers, both big and small, get their message out to the world in the most efficient and powerful ways through digital marketing opportunities. She had a big wake up call after a traumatic rock bottom moment when she was 16 years old. She was badly beaten up by five girls at a party that had been created just for that purpose to beat her up. From that moment; decision by decision, day by day, moment by moment, Amber consciously faced her fears and stepped into her highest and best self. Today, you'll learn a whole lot of tips and strategies for creating a solid content marketing plan. This way, you're generating more leads, more exposure, more cells making more impact with your message. Amber's gift for building relationships, creativity, innovative strategy systems, and speed offers game-changing support to her visionary clients. What You'll Hear In This Episode A brief background of Amber's professional background How Amber's beating experience became the turning point in her life. What guided Amber to look inward and fight her way through that dark time in her life? How much of this marketing business is spiritual, or is it just mindset? How important is content in increasing connection to growing the business in today's marketplace? “The more values you share, the better the relationship is going to go.” - Amber Vilhauer Everybody's creating content from the palm of their hand. How are they going to stand out today? Is there any science to creating an experiential content marketing plan? The science behind having a more successful content marketing strategy should always start with videos, as discussed by Amber. Is there a way to use written words to still create an experience? What big mistakes do people make when it comes to their content marketing plan? Is it easier if somebody has a content strategy where everything revolves around the linchpin? Is the concept of “Leverage to Scale” all organic? Or it differs from person to person? “Speaking is one of the best things that you can do to grow your business, podcast stages, small groups, masterminds, live streaming, anything like that.” - Amber Vilhauer What advice does Amber have for people coming into this marketing game to actually commit to making it work? Why is being consistent important in your marketing strategies? “The more frequently you do anything, the more you're going to get results from it.” - Amber Vilhauer What is the runway period for somebody who's decided to go all-in on content marketing? What wisdom will Amber tell her younger self to help her collapse some time and get results faster? “As long as you just keep it moving, you'll be fine. Just don't stop.” - Amber Vilhauer Links Mentioned In This Episode https://ambervilhauer.com/ www.ambervilhauer.com/marketingcourse www.ajamyx.com/community @ajamyx

How have you been navigating grocery shopping, cooking, and meal planning during quarantine? My habits certainly have changed, and I've talked about it on the show over the past few months. So this week, I thought it would be fun to hear from three fellow dietitian friends and podcast hosts to see how they're coping with the new normal and how their cooking, shopping, and eating habits have evolved over the past few months. Tune in for tips on turning dinner into tasty lunch leftovers the next day; how to bust through dinnertime boredom by trying new "out of the box" recipes; and why you don't have to feel guilty if you're not baking your own sourdough bread. Amber Pankonin hails from the great state of Nebraska. She hosts the Healthy Under Pressure podcast, where she interviews entrepreneurs about how they thrive and grow even when faced with daily stresses and challenges. Amber has important words of wisdom for each of us about giving ourselves a break during difficult times and not feeling like we have to be Wonder Woman or Superman right now. She reminds us that we don’t have to play the comparison game. I am not making sourdough bread at home, and I’m no longer feeling guilty about it. David Orozco is a “guy-e-titian” who hosts the One Small Bite podcast where he addresses nutrition topics for men. He joins us from Georgia with survival stories from his home kitchen. Every night he’s there with his wife and daughter as they prepare healthy dinner meals that double up as lunch the next day. No PB & J for this guy-e-titian! Melissa Joy Dobbins, from Illinois, hosts the Sound Bites podcast. She has a magical way of taking the latest science and nutrition and translating it into essential news that we can all use. She’s home with her husband and two kids now, and she’s craving variety because she’s bored with the same old meals. You could say that the pandemic has brought out the chef in Melissa as she has explored new mealtime creations. She’ll share her inspiration with us. Show Highlights: From Amber: Get to know Amber and her podcast How we stay healthy during stressful times: Take care of yourself Don’t play the comparison game Give yourself grace How Amber’s shopping habits have changed as she is more intentional about food waste and more experimental in the kitchen Liz’s dinner plans for tonight: Asparagus Quiche (check out the recipe in Resources!) Why Amber is more intentional about meal planning How living in Nebraska gives Amber access to local meat and produce directly from the farmers From David: Get to know David and his podcast that’s geared to men How David is handling the pandemic with weekly grocery trips that include masks, gloves, and extra cleaning measures The biggest difference for David and his family is that they are home together for all three meals---and the dishwasher runs almost non-stop Repurposing family dinners for lunch the next day: Cuban Pork Sandwiches made from leftover tenderloin Buddha Bowls made with leftover tofu stir-fry Why handmade pizza is a favorite for dinner--and breakfast--and lunch David’s Colombian roots, his childhood in NJ, and the last 30 years in Atlanta From Melissa: Get to know Melissa, her podcast, and her family How Melissa has coped by shopping less often, mostly buying the same foods, but keeping more junk food on hand The changes in Melissa’s household: her husband has started making homemade bread again, and they have made homemade birthday cakes Why dinnertime for Melissa’s family has included more variety and more comfort food How Melissa finds one-pot inspiration from Shelley Rael’s The One-Pot Weight Loss Plan cookbook Why ordering takeout has become a huge treat for the family Melissa’s advice for feeding a family during a pandemic: “Find what works for you.” Resources: Links for Amber: Amber’s website: www.stirlist.com Amber’s podcast: www.healthyunderpressure.com Instagram: @RDamber Twitter: @RDamber Liz’s Asparagus Quiche: https://www.lizshealthytable.com/2014/06/06/crustless-asparagus-quiche/ Liz’s cookbooks that she’s revisiting: https://www.lizshealthytable.com/cookbooks/ Links for David: David’s website: https://www.onesmallbite.net David’s podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/one-small-bite/id1492400550 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/david_tdwellness/ Links for Melissa:: Melissa’s podcast: https://www.soundbitesrd.com/podcast/ Instagram: @melissajoyrd Twitter: @melissajoyrd Facebook: @MelissaJoyDobbinsSoundBites Do More with Dinner initiative: https://www.soundbitesrd.com/download-m-o-r-e-dinner-kit/ Joan Nathan’s chicken soup: https://food52.com/blog/6142-joan-nathan-s-chosen-matzo-ball-soup The One-Pot Weight Loss Plan by Shelley Rael, MS, RDN

Her twenty years of experience in software engineering and project management meant she had to sit through some painful meetings, so she started looking for a solution that would change that. For many of my EOS clients, we understand the importance of a solid meeting structure and its impact on our productivity. With the introduction of Wonderly's first software product, Bella Scena, Amber Christian, and her team have redefined what it means to have a good meeting structure. Bella Scena Amber's goal with Bella Scena is to use beautiful design to nudge employees into behaviors that help everybody excel in a meeting. Bella Scena makes meetings more visual and more focused. There is a lot of meeting anxiety out there because employees don't always know what they're walking into. By setting a specific goal for the meeting, your team members can prepare for a productive discussion where everyone is on the same page when they walk into the room. Individuals can work together to develop an intentional and precise agenda using Bella's fun, attractive, and user-friendly interface. Your team will have something to work towards instead of spinning its wheels for an hour while everyone gets up to speed. Human-Centered Design After twenty years in the technology industry, Amber was at a point where she had the experience, skills, and motivation to do things differently. That is what inspired her passion for human-centered design. Amber had a vision to build her products alongside her customers and that is exactly what she achieved with Bella Scena. None of the features are guesses—she listened to her target audience and gave them exactly what they wanted. Over half the feedback Amber received from her prospective customers was provided by women. In the tech industry, that is something to be celebrated. Amber and her team are just getting started and there is so much in store for Wonderly as time moves forward.

This week we speak to a serial entrepreneur who’s really been there and done it. Amber Renae went from building bridges as a civil engineer to building up three six-figure businesses, including a fashion label supported by none other than Paris Hilton. But this certainly isn’t a story of serene progress and overnight success. Amber was refershnighly open about how she recovered from bankruptcy and bad money management to become the inspirational entrepreneur she is today, delivering e-courses and building sales funnels. See some of Amber’s top tips below: ** Don’t call yourself an entrepreneur unless you actually have a proper business! ** You can still be successful in business if you’re bad at managing money, but make sure you delegate to someone who is a specialist in this area. ** Don’t be afraid to say no to new clients and growth. If you can’t manage it properly then don’t do it. ** Pay people for the knowledge you don’t have. The amount of time you save by doing this is nearly always worth it. ** If you’re a good learner then you’re probably good at business. The day-to-day work of an entrepreneur is all about learning and problem solving. In this episode of Business Brain Food you will learn: ** What motivates an internationally successful entrepreneur ** What it was like to be an entrepreneur before it was fashionable ** How Amber came back from bankruptcy ** The power of learning ** The challenges of selling a product versus selling a service Resources mentioned in this episode: ** Enter our competition to win a 17,000 AUD coaching program. She’s been featured in The New York Times, Forbes, and Fortune and called "The Brené Brown of Wonder." Her book Choose Wonder Over Worry hits shelves on May 15, which Seth Godin called "a gift" and Deepak Chopra called a guide "to unfold your infinite potential." As creatives, we have ALL experienced fear, self-doubt, and envy at some point. In this episode, Amber and I will be discussing how to stop the spiral of worry and comparison. By using our sense of wonder and exploring the wisdom hidden beneath our emotions, we can learn to transform it from something uncomfortable into something everyone wants more of -- inspiration. We'll also be jamming on differentiating between healthy striving and paralyzing perfectionism, how to follow the muse of wonder instead of the fear of worry, and why anxiety is our friend (not our foe!). You can get a preview of her story here with the book's introduction chapter. How are women represented in figurative art? Can you tell the difference between figurative art created by a woman and a man? What is it about women painting women that stands out? Figurative artist, Amber Lia-Kloppel was kind enough to sit down with me and discuss these questions and so much more. In our conversation, we also touch on her time at the New York Academy of Art, why she chooses women as her subjects, voyeurism, confrontation, navigating motherhood as an artist, and so much more. I know artists like you are going to enjoy Amber’s unique and fascinating perspective. The Female Figure Throughout the ages, the woman’s figure has been explored by artists the world over. But with each artist, the inspiration is a little bit different. I wanted to know why my guest, Amber Lia-Kloppel was so drawn to painting the female figure. Amber opened up and shared with me that the reason she is so drawn to the female figure, in part, is because they are self-portraits. She means this both literally and figuratively as she occasionally uses herself as a model but she also sees a reflection of herself in the models and the work she creates that are represented by the female body. It was a joy to hear Amber’s take on figurative art and the portrayal of the female figure. Make sure to check out images of Amber’s work at the end of this post! Navigating an art career as a parent How do parents and mothers, in particular, manage their time in the studio? What does it look like to navigate an art career as a parent? How does parenting influence the artwork of an artist? Amber Lia-Kloppel was gracious and candid in our conversation as she shared her experience navigating her role as an artist and a mother. She told me about projects she created that reflected moments she shared with her daughter. Amber also went on to describe how parenting has brought her to cherish and make the most out of her time working in her studio. I got the sense from my conversation with Amber that parenting enhanced her imagination and scope in some fascinating ways. I’m curious to hear what you take away from my conversation with Amber. Evolving as an artist How have you evolved as an artist over time? Have you made subtle changes here and there or have there been dramatic shifts in your approach and style? What caused the changes you’ve made over the years? My guest, Amber Lia-Kloppel described for me a pivotal moment in her career as an artist when she started to attend the New York Academy of Art. It was in this environment that Amber developed and refined her approach. Amber told me about how she learned new techniques and enjoyed the freedom and permission to expand her abilities in this environment that challenged and empowered her. Have you had an experience like Amber’s? Learning how to let go of a painting As artists, when we create, we pour part of ourselves into the process and ultimately into our creations. What are the ramifications of this creative process when we are unable to complete a project? What happens to that energy and passion that were poured out? My guest, Amber Lia-Kloppel discussed this artist's dilemma with me in our conversation. I appreciated Amber’s honesty as she admitted that she still struggles with letting go of her paintings that she just can't seem to finish. She hates to let go because, as she has gotten older, her starts are better, so there is so much there to salvage. Amber also holds herself to a high standard, she wants every painting to be her best painting. Can you relate to Amber’s struggle? Amber has also been a coach and champion for me as I’ve created Mother’s Quest and leads a community of soul-fueled CEO’s that has become an important source of support. From the moment she answers my first question, you will experience how Amber brings this combination of simultaneous vulnerability and crystal clarity. She brings those gifts along with her own trial and error experiences as an entrepreneur and mother to help visionaries, leaders and what she calls “disruptivators” turn their passions into heart-centered brands and thriving businesses. It was the birth of her daughter, and becoming a mother, that caused her to proactively design her life and business after working for 10 years in collegiate athletics marketing for her alma mater, the University of New Hampshire. And, it is her desire to seize life, new experiences and new opportunities that led her to become Mrs. New Hampshire 2016. In our conversation, Amber shares how speaking our truth allows us to live joy-filled lives. She opens up about her traumatic experience as a childhood survivor of sexual abuse, how that event shaped her relationship with her mother, and how it also shaped her own journey in motherhood and business. I loved hearing about how Amber lives her E.P.I.C life by coming home to herself and therefore coming home to the ones she loves. I left the conversation grounded and ready to let go of judgment, to live my truth and to design my life. Mindsets around money can be messed up in big ways. We all learn to think about money at an early age and the attitudes we develop are not always healthy. Amber Berry has noticed that tendency in herself and in many others and has learned a ton of great ways to think about money in healthier ways. That’s why she developed her Feel Good Finances website and helps entrepreneurs deal with the emotional and mindset issues surrounding money. On this episode of The Happy Black Woman podcast, you’re going to hear Rosetta’s conversation with Amber about money mindset, productivity, and building a dream business that you can use to create the life you desire. Be sure you take the time to listen! Do you have a messed up money mindset? Here’s how you can find out! Most of us don’t think about money in healthy ways. Whether we have undue or inappropriate feelings of guilt about finances or have a belief that we will never be one of “those people” who have money, we all probably have something to work on. But one of the most powerful hindrances to our money mindset is our emotions. The way we FEEL about money is powerful and many times holds us back from experiencing freedom and effectiveness in the way we pursue making and saving money. On this episode, Amber Berry is going to tell us 3 powerful tips that can help us start building a healthier mindset around money. What to do if you are not good with money. Amber Berry says that many people tell her that they are simply “not good with money.” She believes that is a bad habit they’ve developed in their thinking. In her experience helping many people overcome the obstacles to having a healthy money mindset, Amber has discovered effective tools that can help a person realize that they aren’t bad with money, they are simply ill-equipped to deal with it rightly. It’s her desire to change that by offering training and help that enables her clients to deal with money wisely and powerfully. You can hear how Amber got into the financial education world and what she does to help people like you, on this episode. Why you need a group of friends who support your new money mindset. Many people are trapped in a negative way of thinking about money because they were taught unhealthy ways of thinking from childhood. It isn’t that parents intentionally taught them things that they knew were bad, they just passed on the mindset they already had about money. That means that as you start working toward new mental habits your close family members may not be very supportive, simply because they don’t understand what you’re trying to do. That’s why you need a supportive group of people who understand your money mindset journey and are willing to encourage you and help you maintain your momentum. On this episode of the podcast, Amber Berry shares how you can find the exact group of people you need, so be sure you take the time to listen. Are you self-sabotaging your money making efforts? It sounds silly to say that people sabotage their own efforts at earning money, but it’s true. And the tendency to short circuit their own plans comes from an unhealthy mindset that they possess about the issue of money. Amber Berry has discovered some powerful tools that help people recognize their own bad thinking about money and begin to move out of those mental habits and develop healthier ones. You will receive a lot of help surrounding your own bad mental habits about money if you’ll listen to this great episode of Happy Black Woman. And you’ll also be able to receive Amber’s free gift. In this conversation she tells Scott how her journey has progressed, what’s going on now, and and how you can get involved if you’re willing to take action! From doubter to amazing seller in 6 month’s time. When Amber first heard about private label sales on Amazon she thought it couldn’t really work the way she was hearing. But once she gave it a try, she discovered that she was wrong. Her products have taken off in an amazing way, selling as many as 200 items per day. Since that time she’s begun a second brand and product line, aiming to build her business to even greater heights. Amber’s experience demonstrates that if you are willing to take action, you can build your own business to support yourself and your lifestyle. Listen to Amber’s story and get some inspiration about what you can achieve! Why taking action is the most important step. Since Amber was a skeptic when she first heard of Amazon private label sales, she could have easily sat back, watched things happen, scoff at the amazing stories she heard, and left it at that. But she didn’t. She took some action steps to try it out for herself, to test it out to see if what she was hearing was reality. What she discovered is that selling on Amazon is even more lucrative and powerful than she thought. She’s gone from skeptic to sold out believer, in just 6 month’s time. You can hear her story on this episode of The Amazing Seller. Where did Amber get a product idea that sells $20K a month? Amazingly, Amber didn’t get her product idea from using a fancy software package and doing a lot of research. She simply paid attention to the things that were going on around her, saw a product someone she knew was using, and thought it might be a good product to offer on Amazon. Turns out she was right. That product is now selling to the tune of over $20,000 per month. How is that possible? For sure, she happened to hit on a great product at the right time, but she also had the benefit of being an action taker. If that product hadn’t worked out nearly as well, she likely would have tried something else. You’ve got to take action. It’s really that simple. Take some time to listen to this episode so you can hear Amber’s entire story. Scott’s 10X10X1 strategy has multiplied itself over and over for Amber. The basic structure Scott suggests new Amazon sellers aim for is 10 products, selling 10 per day. But because she took action Amber has seen that kind of success with only one product and a few variations. Her success is obviously not something that anyone can guarantee for new sellers but it clearly demonstrates that even without a ton of research, great product ideas and lucrative income can be a reality. Think of what might happen if you DO put into practice all the research and tips that skilled and seasoned sellers like Scott are teaching? Your success could be greater than Ambers! Amber and Brady Black are a married couple currently living in Beirut, Lebanon, and they are a true inspiration. Having grown up and met, in the United States, they decided to move to the Middle East to teach. The first five years abroad were not easy, and Amber found herself fighting depression, which she courageously shares about in our interview. After some discussion, they decided that they needed to leave the gulf region. In a series of synchronous events, a friend of a friend mentioned that there was an opening at "Home Of Hope" in Beirut, which is a home for abandoned and abused children in Lebanon. Amber and Brady went for a visit, and knew in their hearts that they had to teach there. Brady had been interested in art in his younger years, and returned to it when things had gotten hard; in drawing whimsical art for a friend who wanted note cards to put in her children's lunches, something magical was born. Brady realized he had an outlet for his creativity, and it tapped into the imagination of the children and parents that saw it. When more requests came for note cards, Amber and Brady realized they had the beginnings of a business, one that brought joy to them and others, brought more purpose them as a couple, and helped Amber feel a sense of belonging and connection as she came out of her depression. Joy and love is the through-line for Amber and Brady's work at Home of Hope, Lebanon, as well. They work with children who have been abandoned, abused, that are refugees, who have been on the streets, some have been involved in prostitution. At the Home, Amber and Brady teach the children, but it becomes so clear in the interview, they also meet each of these children right where they are, provide a consistent presence in their lives, and love them. I adored getting to know Amber and Brady - they are funny, passionate, open, and so dedicated to both Serious Creatures and Home of Hope. I loved hearing about how Brady's passion for drawing and imagination truly changed their lives, and how both of them said "yes" to starting a business when the idea presented itself. And, I loved hearing about how much they love working with the kids in Beirut. I know you'll enjoy getting to know them, too. In this interview we talk about: - How Amber and Brady met at college, and have "been married every since" - What it was like to move to Oman from Texas - How Amber faced depression when she moved to Oman, and how she felt culturally isolated - How art, imagination, and hope changed their lives, and started a company - How Serious Creatures got it's name (hint: there's some Harry Potter magic involved!) - The way they were introduced to Home of Hope - What it's like to teach children of various ages and various levels of educational background - How they strike a balance of taking care of themselves while working with children from difficult backgrounds - Their kickstarter with Serious Creatures (Serious Starters) - What it was like for Brady to see children reacting to his art for the first time - What's next for them and Serious Creatures Resources Serious Creatures Website Serious Creatures sign up page to learn about their after Thanksgiving sale Serious Creatures Instagram Serious Creatures Kickstarter Home of Hope Lebanon Facebook page The post Episode 11: Hope, Love, and Serious Creatures with Amber and Brady Black appeared first on Jump Start Your Joy.
