Podcast Notes Episode 476 The Most Important Question (Rebroadcast) Hosts: Brian Miller, PCC and Chad Hall, MCC Date: July 31, 2025 In this episode, the hosts dive into the deceptively powerful question: "What's the simplest way to do it?" Inspired by Pat Flynn and Tim Ferriss, the conversation explores how simplicity can lead to more effective systems, communication, coaching, and even business practices. They share personal anecdotes, client stories, and organizational examples to highlight how a bias toward complexity can hinder progress—and how simplicity often brings clarity, momentum, and better outcomes. Key Highlights: The Power of One Simple Question: The episode centers around the life-altering question from The 4-Hour Workweek—"What's the simplest way to do it?"—and its usefulness in nearly every domain. Simplicity as a Core Value: The hosts argue that while not everything is simple, simple usually beats complex in systems, relationships, communication, and business. Real-World Coaching Applications: They illustrate how overcomplicating coaching systems, like building frameworks or using advanced apps, can stall progress—sometimes it's better to just start and build as you go. Organizational and Institutional Over-Complexity: From school systems to churches to marketing strategies, the episode uncovers how institutions often lose sight of their core mission by adding unnecessary layers of complexity. Simplicity in Marketing and Sales: The discussion wraps with advice on making client acquisition simpler—often it's not about having the perfect website or funnel but about having real conversations and asking directly. Takeaways: Ask the Simplicity Question Often: "What's the simplest way?" is a powerful coaching and decision-making tool that can cut through clutter and increase effectiveness. Avoid the Sophistication Bias: Organizations and individuals often equate complexity with value—but simplicity often leads to better results. Manual is Okay (at First): Starting small, personal, and manual—like texting clients—is not just acceptable but often preferable until scale demands more. You Don't Need a Full Framework to Start: Just start coaching. You can build the structure as you go. Talk to People: In both coaching and fundraising, the simplest and often most effective path is direct communication—just ask. In this empowering episode, Tina Tower takes listeners through the 10 universal problems that every entrepreneur faces—no matter where they are on their journey. More importantly, she offers clearly actionable steps for overcoming each obstacle, helping you to anticipate and navigate the challenges that are simply part of the entrepreneurial “game.” Tina breaks down everything from the struggle to clarify your vision and inconsistent sales, to overcoming fears around visibility and burnout from trying to do it all yourself. You'll finish this episode with a renewed mindset, practical strategies, and encouragement to treat business as a series of solvable challenges—and maybe even learn to enjoy the process! Key Topics Covered: No Clear Vision Many entrepreneurs are flying by the seat of their pants. Tina shares how crucial it is to define your version of success and reverse-engineer the path to get there. Poor Time Management Being busy ≠ being productive. Use ruthless prioritization and weekly planning to stay focused on high-impact tasks—those that bring joy, enhance customer experience, or make you money. Inconsistent Sales Avoid “feast or famine” cycles by building predictable sales systems. Balance launches with evergreen marketing efforts and build your email list continuously. Weak Financial Controls Know your numbers! Regularly monitor revenue, expenses, and the sources of your income. Use targets and cash flow forecasting to avoid surprises. Fear of Visibility Fear often stands between you and growth. Start small with visibility—like Instagram stories—and build your courage through practice, focusing on who you serve rather than yourself. Undercharging for Services Price based on the value and transformation you provide—not your time or number of lessons. Align your pricing with your confidence and competitor analysis. Hiring Challenges Don't hire too early or too late. Systemize and outsource tasks thoughtfully, and aim to hire people who can take full ownership of their responsibilities. Shiny Object Syndrome Stay focused! Resist the urge to constantly pivot. Rinse and repeat your core offers at least three times before considering a major change. Not Enough Thinking Time Schedule regular “CEO” thinking time to evaluate what's really moving the needle and to course-correct as needed. Trying to Do it All Alone Building a support system—both in your business and at home—is essential for sustainability. Delegate, automate, and eliminate wherever possible. Business will always present new challenges, but every obstacle is 100% solvable when you approach problems as opportunities to level up. Accept these challenges as part of the entrepreneur's journey, and remember: enjoy the process! "How have I been complicit in creating the conditions I say I don't want?"Many of us find ourselves trapped in patterns we claim to hate - overworking while craving balance, tolerating bad bosses, accepting toxic work cultures. This question cuts right to the heart of it. It's not about blame. It's about awareness. The word complicit cuts deeper than responsible, because it asks us to look inward, without self-attack.This question comes from Jerry Colonna - former JP Morgan partner, co-founder of a top-tier VC firm with Fred Wilson, now known as the CEO Whisperer. He coaches Founders and CEOs at Etsy, SoundCloud, and Fortune 500 companies.I've wanted this conversation for years, ever since hearing him on the Tim Ferriss podcast. When he agreed to come on How to Live, I honestly couldn't believe it.In our conversation, Jerry opens up about his journey from massive Wall Street success to a near-suicidal moment on a subway platform, and how radical self-inquiry saved his life.We dive deep into self-growth, leadership, practical journaling techniques, managing the voices in your head, and why the most successful people often create their own suffering without realizing it.If you're exploring the next frontier of growth, it might not be outside. It might be within. This conversation will help you start the work.Shownoteshttps://howtolive.life/episode/099-wisdom-from-the-CEO-whisperer-with-jerry-colonnaHow to Live NewsletterGo deeper with articles every 2-3 weeks. How many of us have been in severe physical pain, and thought to ourselves, “This is awesome - it's so life-giving…”..? It's the enemy's work to steal, kill and destroy. At this second Combined Churches Regional Gathering, Tim Ferris looks at Jesus' healing ministry through the lens of the apostle John. Jesus came that we might have life, and life more abundantly. Sickness and pain works against the life of God in us. So, whose work is sickness? At the very least, it is life in a fallen world. At worst it is the enemy's work of stealing, killing, and destroying. Either way, Jesus came to fix it, and we were given the same commission when Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” Prayer and ministry for healing follows.
Send us a textIn this episode of Authors Who Lead, I sit down with Dan Andrews—writer, entrepreneur, and founder of the Dynamite Circle—to dig deep into what it means to write and lead in today's creative landscape. Our conversation is a goldmine for aspiring authors who wrestle with the pressure to be original, the fear of starting, and the all-too-familiar sting of writer's block. Together, we explore how the writing process—far from being mystical or reserved for geniuses—is something deeply human, honest, and accessible.Timestamp:00:00 Internet transparency movement origins06:10 Internet explorations and new paths07:29 Tim Ferriss' timely insight11:12 Early networking and generosity15:51 Conference speech writing hack18:10 Authors' need for control21:47 Before the Exit insights25:16 Founder mode's accelerated influence28:19 The 1000-day principle33:22 High output drives success35:49 Creative limits enhance artistic expression37:52 Creative freedom vs. impactful writing42:29 Overcoming creative doubt46:02 Personal podcast narratives48:48 Writing as a life-changing idea53:39 Impulsive ticket purchase regrets55:03 Apprenticeship success at MeetupFull show notesCOMMUNITY PROGRAMS

In episode 304 of Business Coaching Secrets, hosts Karl Bryan and Rode Dog dive into the “rules of money” every business coach must know, why being new in a market can be your superpower, and the realities behind popular business myths. The episode combines practical financial wisdom with actionable strategies for business coaches seeking lasting growth and wealth—while reminding listeners that higher-level thinking trumps shortcuts, and focusing on product is the ultimate accelerator. Key Topics Covered The Weight of Local Celebrity and the Power of “New” Karl Bryan compares the pressure faced by athletes like Mitch Marner in their hometowns to the challenges coaches feel when becoming “local legends.” Being new in a market is reframed as a hidden advantage—fresh faces wield a psychological “superpower” that can accelerate growth, provided coaches leverage it rather than fear it. Rules of Money for Business Coaches Money is fundamentally “a game of doubles”—constantly look for trajectories to double investments, whether in marketing, skills, or assets. Compounding is a key driver: marginal utility and small improvements across many areas trigger outsized, accelerated results. Patience and “aggressive patience”: real wealth (for you and your clients) is built by “hurrying up and waiting” rather than chasing quick wins or lotteries. Taxes and fees are often ignored but are the #1 expense for most people and require intentional, strategic management. Product, Sales, and Marketing Mastery Success flows from being excellent at your product first—if your service delivers, sales and marketing get dramatically easier. Sales is one-to-one, marketing is one-to-many, but “product” is what truly solves the problem and generates lasting referrals. The classic principle: “You can't sell or market your way out of a bad product.” Standing Against Popular Business Myths Myths like passive income, four-hour workweeks, and “do what you love and make millions” are unpacked as misleading for most coaches. Instead, the actionable advice is to become extremely good at your craft, focus on profit margins, and fall in love with what you do best. Selecting Ideal Coaching Clients Your ideal client is “you, five years ago,” and those with strong profit margins. Focus on helping highly coachable, successful people, not just anyone willing to pay. Beware of spreading yourself thin with multiple streams of income before your main business is thriving. Notable Quotes “Being new is like a superpower—like new, sex, and chocolate.” “Money is a game of doubles… have a path to turn $1,000 into $2,000.” “You can't sell and market your way out of a bad product.” “Needing nothing attracts everything.” “If you buy stuff, you end up with stuff. Not needing something is the same as having it.” “If you can sell, you can't coach. If you can coach, you can't sell.” “Play big. The anxiety isn't from overwhelm—it's from knowing you're capable of more.” Actionable Takeaways Leverage Your “Newness”: Don't be afraid to enter new markets; position yourself as the fresh expert to stand out and attract attention. Focus on Doubling and Compounding: Aim to double the outcomes of every investment—financial, time, or client results. Teach your clients about the magic of compounding: small, smart improvements in multiple areas add up fast. Be Aggressively Patient: “Hurry up and wait”—apply urgency in action, but patience in expecting results. Master Your Product: Strive to be the absolute best and (eventually) the only choice in your niche. Constantly refine your coaching deliverables and operating systems to make getting clients effortless by reputation and results. Prioritize the Right Clients: Go after highly coachable, growth-minded, and profitable clients—ideally, those you were like 5 years ago. Challenge “Feel-Good” Myths: Don't get distracted by gimmicks promising fast wins or easy lifestyles. Focus on skill-building, operational leverage, and real profitability. Understand Your Real Expenses: Taxes, fees, and interest are the true drains on wealth—work with pros and educate yourself to minimize them for you and your clients. Daily Boost Podcast Show Notes Turn Dreaded Conversations Into Breakthrough Moments June 24, 2025 | Episode - 5122 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description You know that conversation you've been putting off? The one that makes your stomach twist just thinking about it? Scott's got your back with a game-changing approach to uncomfortable conversations. Drawing from Tim Ferriss's wisdom and his own coaching experience, Scott reveals why these dreaded talks are never actually surprises to anyone involved. He'll show you how to flip the script from avoiding to embracing these moments as opportunities to clear the air and move forward. This isn't about being mean or overly emotional—it's about having integrity and doing what needs to be done with confidence. Featured Story Scott shares a real coaching moment from just yesterday when a client was struggling with how to “softly bring up” a difficult workplace issue. The breakthrough came when Scott challenged him to see the conversation differently. Instead of tiptoeing around the topic, Scott helped his client realize that being direct and caring isn't contradictory—it's exactly what the situation called for. The story perfectly illustrates how we often overcomplicate conversations that everyone already knows need to happen. Important Points Everyone already knows the conversation is coming—you're not surprising anyone by addressing the elephant in the room. Trying to find the “perfect way” to bring something up is just procrastination disguised as preparation. Having integrity means doing your job and caring enough to speak up when something needs to be addressed. Memorable Quotes “Why are you making me have to do this? I don't like it, but we all will do what we have to do because we're good people.” “It's never an unknown. Whatever you're going to talk about is never a surprise to the person you're going to talk to ever.” “Rather than call it an uncomfortable conversation, I call it an uncomfortable confirmation—basically just confirming that this is where we are.” Scott's Three-Step Approach Be direct and get to the point—don't beat around the bush or talk about the weather first. Ask a question, say what it is, keep it real without getting emotional, and think it through in advance like a doctor or attorney would. Once you've said what's on your mind, ask for feedback because you've released so much weight that solutions become possible. Connect With Me Search for The Daily Boost on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. We're thrilled to host Diana Chapman for our final episode of Season 10. A highly sought-after and trusted advisor, in her own words, Diana is an environmentalist at heart. Diana came to the Hoffman Process in July 2024 with one desire. She'd already done a lot of personal growth work. She'd even sent many people to Hoffman. But it wasn't until this one desire became clear to her that she decided to go through the Process. Diana realized just how much creative energy she was spending each day on judging her body. Although she'd already made peace with her parents, Diana knew her judgment came from her parents' patterns. She wondered if the Hoffman Process could help, and it did. Diana shares that she often uses light-heartedness to work with her patterns. While that has worked well for her for some time, in the end, Diana has found that heartbreak is often necessary to transform some patterns. She shares that she's found liberation in a broken heart. In the work Diana does with teams and individuals, she leads them to work with the intelligence of the body and heart. She speaks of the sensuality of the body and how she wants to experience more heaven on earth, and guides others to experience this, too. We hope you enjoy this episode with Diana and Drew. Thank you for tuning in to season 10 of Love's Everyday Radius. We'll be back in August for season 11. More about Diana Chapman: Diana is a highly sought-after and trusted advisor, celebrated for her ability to deliver swift, impactful results while driving sustainable change. She has guided over a thousand CEOs and hundreds of executive teams. Renowned clients—from Genentech to Asana—praise her unique blend of clarity, compassion, boldness, and playfulness. As a facilitator for the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), Diana works with forums and chapters worldwide. Diana is a co-founder of The Conscious Leadership Group and co-author of the widely acclaimed book The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership. She's helped ignite a movement redefining what leadership looks like when it's rooted in awareness, integrity, and deep presence. Be on the lookout for Diana's new book, No Drama Teams, in 2027. She teaches at Stanford and with the Kauffman Fellows, and has been a featured speaker on stages such as TEDx, Wisdom 2.0, and Conscious Company Media. When she's not guiding top leaders, Diana's living the good life on her ranch in Aptos, California. Find out more about Diana here and follow her on LinkedIn. Nsima Inyang (@nsimainyang) is a strength athlete, movement coach, and co-host of Mark Bell's Power Project, one of the top fitness podcasts in the world.
