How It's Done Podcast

For the fifteenth episode of my How It’s Done Podcast I sat down with my long time friend and photographer turned wheel designer Chris Sempek. Chris and I met many years ago through Honda-Tech and have stayed closely in touch ever since. He’s always had a love for cars that at first just involved working on cars and photography but then ultimately turned into designing wheels for a living. We of course spent some time talking about the present but we took a deep dive into the past and how Chris got to where he is today in both his career and personal life. From getting his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to working for companies such as Fortune Auto and D2Forged Wheels and then ultimately Allied Wheel/Raceline Wheels where he would be a huge part in the launch of Kansei Wheels. For the fourteenth episode of my podcast I had my first ever returning guest! My good friend John Ludwick Jr. and I sat down in Ocean City during H2oi weekend to talk about what he has been up to since the last time we talked back in November of 2017. John recently embarked on a cross country tour to sell his BMW and drive back home one of his dream cars; a VG45 Toyota Century from Japan! Along the way he hosted meets and vlogged the entire thing. For the twelfth episode of my podcast I sat down with owner and stylist at Bescene Studios in Maryland, Linh Phan. Linh has made a huge name for himself in the hair styling and coloring industry and is arguably one of the biggest influencers in the game today! After graduating from cosmetology school Linh began cutting and coloring hair in a small space in his uncle's basement and quickly grew to eventually creating Bescene Studios; a space where some of the industry's favorite colorists now call home. His innovative use of color, ability to try new techniques and push the envelope is what Linh has mastered the best! For the eighth episode of my podcast I sat down with my good friend and fashion photographer Mark Enriquez. Mark has been shooting cars, models and delicious food for quite some time now and it only felt right to hear his story. He’s been making a big buzz in both the automotive and photography scene with shooting for companies such as Fatlace, Illest, Rotiform, USDM FREAX, Be Scene Studios, Simple to Society, Balo Kitchen and countless attractive models both well known and up and coming. Mark is one of the most humble and easy going guys I’ve ever met and I am honored to call him.a friend! This is easily my favorite interview to date. We talked about the state of the car scene, his EVO build, Mark Arcenal, advice for up and coming models and photographers, his biggest pet peeves when working with models, some crazy stories, models having that “it”, collaborating with other artists, loyalty, future plans, food and much more! For the seventh episode of my podcast, I flew out to Southern California for a weekend and during my stay got the chance to sit down with the one and only Big Mike. Mike has been building cars for many years and is known around the world for his award winning SEMA builds; most notably his 1992 Honda Prelude. Mike also MC’s and judges at car shows, freelances for print magazines, designs and builds cars for other people and was recently featured on Fast n Loud- a tv show where Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufman search for forgotten and derelict classic cars to restore. We talked about Hondas, the state of the car scene now vs back when he started out, car magazines, quality parts vs fake parts, SEMA, his relationship with Ryan Basseri aka Rywire, hard work, being on TV, car show tours, advice for the youth and much more! Mike is on of, if not the smartest person I’ve gotten the chance to sit down and talk to. It was really nice to get to hear his insight and experience. For the sixth episode of my podcast, I flew out to Southern California for the weekend of January 13th and during my stay I got the chance to sit down with LA based fashion photographer Marcus Hyde. I met Marcus a few years ago when he was living in Richmond, VA and was putting on East Coast Honda Meet. Four years ago Marcus decided to take a leap of faith and move out to a city he had never been to before; Los Angeles, California. Since the move his career in photography has sky rocketed. With shooting for artists like Chance the Rapper, Childish Gambino, Snoop Dogg Towkio, and Pusha T and companies like Complex Magazine, Adidas and PLAYBOY, it was only right to talk to Marcus about how he has gotten to where he is today. We talk about him first getting into taking photos and his time in college, traveling the world, his new camera bag in collaboration with Private Label, Yeezys, cars, censorship, his photography workshops, the industry and much more! It has been very inspirational to see Marcus go from doing his own thing with cars to doing huge things with his art out in LA and all over the world. He has really made a big name for himself by changing the game of photography and its relationship with the media and I am excited to see where his career takes him from here. After doing my interview with Krispy and Anthony/Halcyon you guy kept asking me to do one with Mike and I made it happen! What first drew me to Mike’s work a few years ago was his eye for cinematography and the awesome vibes that all of his videos have. I am also a huge fan of his editing and color grading work.
