Kalshi caught and suspended three political candidates who bet on the outcomes of their own elections, the prediction market company said in a statement on Wednesday, fining the three politicians and issuing five-year bans from their platform. Minnesota State Senator Matt Klein, a candidate running for the Democratic nomination for Minnesota's second district in the House of Representatives, agreed to pay a $539.85 fine. Ezekiel Enriquez, a former candidate for the Republican primary for a congressional district in Texas, was fined $784.20. Enriquez lost this race after the primary elections in March. Both Klein and Enriquez bought less than $100 worth of contracts on their own elections, according to Kalshi's filings, and both were also issued five-year suspensions. What does it take to reach Coast FIRE by your mid-30s and actually enjoy the freedom that comes with it? In this episode, we sit down with personal finance educator Liz Enriquez from Ambitious Adulting to discuss how she and her husband reached Coast FIRE with nearly $1 million invested by age 35. We break down the habits, mindset, and income strategies that helped them build wealth over nearly two decades, starting with small contributions and growing into a powerful investing system. Liz shares how growing up in an immigrant household shaped her money mindset, why she focused on maintaining a high savings rate early on, and how multiple income streams accelerated their progress. We also dive into the Canadian investing landscape, including TFSAs, RRSPs, and how to think about diversification across accounts. Now that they've reached Coast FIRE, Liz opens up about the emotional side of slowing down, reducing their savings rate, and designing a more flexible lifestyle. From her husband leaving a high-stress job to work part-time at a pizza shop to prioritizing time with their son, this conversation highlights what life can look like when your investments are working for you. If you're working toward financial independence or wondering what happens after you hit your number, this episode will give you both the strategy and the perspective to keep going. Is the reporting on Bienvenido and Abraham Enriquez legitimate? There is plenty online I will not touch but when a major national source, the Washington Examiner, does a feature story exposing all types of issues with a major local candidate, should those issues covered not be shared with local voters? There is more reporting going back years – see more here. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Irrespective of whether or not one likes a president placing tariffs on imports, John Roberts and a Supreme Court majority got it wrong on the tariff case today. Roberts and friends undercut the Executive Branch while excusing sloppy law writing by the Executive Branch and inserted their own opinion as to what Congress meant in the IEEPA. The dissent was more true to textualism and originalism because, as Kavanaugh wrote, that tariffs “are a traditional and common tool to regulate importation,” something the IEEPA specifically grants the executive.Baker Hughes oil & gas drilling rig report turns slightly positive for Texas this week.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. Chris reflects on the evolution of emo and post-hardcore, the impact of social media on music discovery, and the significance of DIY venues in fostering local music scenes. The conversation concludes with reflections on the legacy of influential bands and the future of music culture.Power chords and crashing boards. Mikey, Tom, and Justin talk music, hockey, and anything else that gets in their way. Tom and Mikey are lifelong friends that grew up on Long Island during the glory days of alternative music where our local bands were As Tall As Lions, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, The Sleeping, Envy on the Coast, you get the point. We spent many nights together at The Downtown, catching any pop-punk, indie, hardcore, or emo band that came through. This was not a phase, Mom! Fast forward 20 years and we are still just as passionate about the scene as we were during our girl jeans and youth XL band tees days. Tom and Mikey are diehard New York Islanders fans, but Justin (Bolts fan) likes to remind us that we are #notanislespodcast. As we got older we realized we can like more than one thing and running beside our love for music has always been our love for hockey. We have realized we are not alone in this thinking, actually there are many of us that love these two things! This podcast explores just how connected they are!NEW EPISODE EVERY TUESDAY! Today, Gabriel Urbina drops by 224B to chat about his brand new show, The Harbingers, which co-stars our very own Lauren Grace Thompson! The first three episodes are available RIGHT NOW wherever you listen to podcasts, and we are delighted to share the first episode with you today! Adam Blackwell is the most powerful man in the world. But he hasn't always been. Five years ago he was just a humble grad student at Sinclair University. How did he go from a nobody to the world's first modern magician? And once he got that power, what has he done with it? Be advised: this episode contains depictions of drinking and smoking, as well as strong language and discussions of politics. It also contains mentions, though not depictions, of violence, death, war crimes, the Holocaust, and a large-scale disaster. Listener discretion is advised. The Harbingers was created by Gabriel Urbina. Today's episode was written by Gabriel Urbina, directed and sound designed by Jeffrey Nils Gardner, and executive produced by Eleanor Hyde. It featured the voices of Andrés Enriquez as Adam Blackwell, Lauren Grace Thompson as Amy Stirling, Emmy Bean as Claudia Skinner, and Kristen DiMercurio as Erica Pfeiffer. Cemeteries are not everyone's idea of fun, but they're a source of fascination for author Mariana Enriquez. Her new nonfiction book Somebody Is Walking on Your Grave is a collection of personal short stories she gathered while traveling to final resting places across four continents. In today's episode, the author joins NPR's Ayesha Rascoe for a conversation about her past as a goth, the connection between graves and Argentina's dictatorship, and where Enriquez would like to be buried. To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
