A Christian millennial melodrama that is equal parts snarky and depressing, THIS IS OUR TIME is a love letter from director Lisa Arnold to the dreamers who graduated college in 2012 with wide eyes and a twitter account and tried to make a name for themselves. Five friends each leave college with greatly different career prospects; Ethan feels shame about being stuck in a sandwich shop while his high-achieving friends Ryder and Kate land high-powered entry level business careers, and his sister Alé and her husband Luke move to India to do outreach missionary work for children with leprosy. When Alé is randomly hit by a car and dies (the most Christian film plot point ever) the friends must reassess their dreams amidst the sobering daylight of reality. They begin a “viral” social media campaign to raise funds for Embrace A Village, a real life charitable organization that seems to have sponsored the film in some way, confusingly blending fiction and reality. THIS IS OUR TIME is an aggressively 2010s film that puts a Christian flair on millennial stereotypes of lattes, iPhones, and the concept of “adulting”. The film conclusively proves that millennials who were seniors in college in the year 2012 are some of the most annoying people to ever walk the earth. This Is Our Time...to tell you about Harmony, and while the show has already closed on Broadway, you can listen to us tell you all about it if you take this podcast with you Where You Go! -- Have you heard of Damp January? The New York Times seems to think it's a worthy trend. Take a look at some of the history behind the real Comedian Harmonists, and there's now a podcast that goes through their history as well! Check out some clips from the earlier production of Harmony in LA that Christine got to see, featuring a very different direction than the version that made it to Broadway. It's interesting to see how New York Times gave Harmony a critic's pick in the off-Broadway iteration, while the Broadway production received a generally negative review from the same publication (though a different critic). -- Music featured in this episode: Harmony (The Cast Recording) Apple Music / Spotify / Amazon Music Marie - The Comedian Harmonists YouTube -- Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @BottomlessBway, our blog at https://bottomlessbway.home.blog, or email us at bottomlessbway@gmail.com! Our guest today is Trevin Wax.Trevin is vice president of research and resource development at the North American Mission Board and a visiting professor at Cedarville University. He is a founding editor of The Gospel Project, and the author of multiple books, including The Thrill of Orthodoxy, Rethink Your Self, This Is Our Time, and Gospel Centered Teaching.Every generation faces the temptation to wander from orthodoxy―to seek out the jolt that comes with false teaching, and to drift with cultural currents. And so every generation must be awakened again to the thrill of orthodoxy, and experience the astonishment that comes from stumbling afresh upon the electrifying paradoxes at the heart of the Christian faith. In The Thrill of Orthodoxy, Trevin Wax turns the tables on those who believe Christian teaching is narrow and outdated. Returning to the church's creeds, he explains what orthodoxy is and why we can have proper confidence in it, and lays out common ways we can stray from it. By showing how heresies are always actually narrower than orthodoxy―taking one aspect of the truth and wielding it as a weapon against others―Wax shows us that false teaching ultimately proves bland and boring, and that orthodoxy is where true adventure can be found.

I haven't interviewed other Antarctic podcasters because that would make for dull content. "Do you press record? Wow! I do, too! Hey, how good is Audacity? Antarctica's cold, huh?" This episode I interview Samantha Hodder about her Antarctic podcast because the stories told in her series, "This Is Our Time," lie so far outside those recounted in my series that there's a lot to discuss beyond the bones of the medium.
THIS IS OUR WATCH. THIS IS OUR TIME. PEOPLE WILL LOOK BACK ON US, ON THIS TIME. The mission of the church: Make Jesus famous!!
We have recently seen a number of once-prominent Christian leaders—as well as a number of believers online—announce that they are “deconstructing” their faith. Sadly, this deconstruction is often succeeded by a de-conversion. They embrace the position that orthodox, biblical Christianity is outdated, boring, or repressive. My guest on today's show argues against the deconstructionist position and those who would substitute historic, biblical orthodoxy for modern heresy. His name is Trevin Wax and we discussed his latest book The Thrill of Orthodoxy. Trevin Wax is vice president of research and resource development at the North American Mission Board and a visiting professor at Cedarville University. Welcome to the first of my Meno Chats where, in celebration of World Menopause Awareness Month, I'm going to be joined by some of the lovely women from my Facebook group, Your Best Midlife, as they share with me their personal menopause journey. There's something hugely inspiring and reassuring about hearing the stories of normal, everyday women, sharing their personal experience of the menopause. We all have a different story to tell, but knowing we're not alone in this is enormously comforting. Today I'm joined by Sue Ladbrook. We're discussing how difficult it can be to know what to expect when you don't have your mum or any female relatives to ask. Having lost my own mum in my early 20s, I can totally relate to Sue's experience. October has been designated menopause awareness month with the 18th October designated by the International Menopause Society as World Menopause Day. Menopause should be a time to be celebrated. A time when women move into a new and exciting season in their lives. So often we get bogged down in all the negative messaging about menopause (and let's face it, for many of us it can be a pretty messy time) but there is most certainly life after menopause and I would even go as far as to say, ladies - THIS IS OUR TIME. So I'd love to invite all the women listening to come and join our amazing community in Your Best Midlife over on Facebook where we cheer each other on and build each other up so we can all thrive through midlife and beyond.

He leads us through it.” “Indecisiveness can be very counterproductive in leadership for your young leaders.” “It takes a certain level of mental energy to consistently be creative over the long haul.” “If you want to write consistently, then you need to learn to write and not be afraid of your reader.” “You need to write to serve the reader.” “If you want to write constantly, you have to read constantly.” “One of the misconceptions I had earlier on was that once you step into greater leadership was that the weight of the execution work you have to do would get easier. But it doesn’t.” “In a remote work environment, it will be harder for young leaders to stand out and rise up in an organization.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Rethink Yourself by Trevin Wax 4 Disciplines of Execution by Sean Covey The Accidental Creative by Todd Henry Strong and Weak by Andy Crouch The Last Lion: Winston Spencer Churchill: Defender of the Realm by William Manchester

“In some sense, Steve, we’re all getting newer every day. Because evolution is getting newer every day, and we are all incarnating the impulse of evolution as who we are. And it comes into each of us uniquely, but it’s still part of the 13.7 billion-year trajectory of higher consciousness, greater freedom, more complex loving order.” —Barbara Marx Hubbard These are the inspirational words world-renowned visionary and best-selling author Barbara Marx Hubbard shared with Steve Farrell, Worldwide Executive Director of Humanity’s Team, in this special Global Oneness Summit rebroadcast just one year before Barbara yielded the form. Barbara goes on to say that when we listen to the deepest part of ourselves—sometimes referred to as that part “within”— and say “yes” to our own unique vocation, we are actually saying yes to the vocation embedded in that evolutionary impulse. What Barbara refers to as “impulse” is more than that which is limited to a personal vocation. She tells us, “It’s a life purpose that comes from Source that has the Divine Impulse of the Self-organizing Universe you’re saying yes to.” When you tune in to that impulse, you’ll actually feel it turning on more than just your personal desire for vocation and purpose. “It’s turning on your part in the life pattern of what’s emerging for evolution itself.” I invite you to listen to our podcast, "This Is Our Time to Say Yes" to hear Barbara and Steve talk more about… The new evolutionary story How evolution increases consciousness and freedom Punctuated equilibrium The Universal Self Your Deepest Heart’s Desire And more! “...Your deepest heart’s desire is that part of the God-Self that wants to be expressed as you and only you,” says Barbara. We had the pleasure of interviewing Brie Howards Darling over Zoom video! The Runaways front-woman and solo artist Cherie Currie and Fanny drummer and singer Brie Darling were ‘70s icons who got the headlines. But they didn’t always get the credit they deserved as strong women holding their own and forging new ground in a rock & roll playing field then dominated by old-school masculine mores. While Currie and Darling had a mutual admiration society, the two didn’t meet until 2017, when Darling reached out to Currie to contribute vocals to Fanny Walked the Earth, a reunion album from the trailblazing Fanny, the first all-female band signed to a major label (Reprise) in 1969. Now fierce friends and cool collaborators, they’re singing together on the new album, The Motivator, a 12-song album featuring nine classic covers by bands including T. Rex, The Rolling Stones, Buffalo Springfield, Stevie Wonder, and John Lennon, plus three powerful new originals, including the tough rocker “Too Bruised” and the topical “This Is Our Time”. The tour is set for late 2019.The two Californians, who grew up with similar influences and worked tirelessly to overcome similar obstacles in their pioneering all-women groups, vibed quickly. “It was truly collaboration,” says Currie, who actually was ready to leave the music biz after years of grueling touring. “With us, there’s no ego, no push-pull. I don’t stand for that. I grew up with it, and I’m fed up with it. I’m into lifting people up, not putting people down.”The covers chosen mostly share—unintentionally—a socio-political resonance that’s as relevant today as when the songs were written. Whittling down the selections from a huge group of favorites, the songs chose their singers. “Lennon’s ‘Gimme Some Truth’ was not one I was screaming for until I heard Brie’s scratch vocal on it; and I said, ‘That’s it. That’s done,’” says Currie. Darling, likewise came to love it: “At first, the song seemed so one-sided, so kind of fed up, angry. But as I sang it, with its intensity, especially with what’s going on in the country today, I got it, and loved singing it.” The poignant take on the Hollies version of “He Ain’t Heavy” was one Cherie brought to the table plus she wrote a poetic addition, “a beautiful counterpoint piece that we used as a background part.”“The original album concept was that Brie was going to sing a few, I’d sing a few, and we’d back each other up,” furthers Currie. “But I knew our voices really work well together. On T. Rex’s ‘The Motivator,’ Brie did a great soulful rock scratch vocal but maybe I have more of a tough rock quality to my voice, so I think Dave decided I was going to sing it. But in my head I heard a duet, me doing the first verse, her on the second verse….and that started the dialog of using our voices together as a concept. Our voices complement each other, so we decided we should share the majority of these songs, because it makes them better.”While there’s at least one female musician on every song, with Darling playing drums on nearly all the cuts, everyone had to earn their place. “We don’t wanna use women musicians just because they’re women,” says Darling. “I don’t think that helps the women’s cause. You have to be good at what you do. To make it in this really hard business, be the best one in the room. Earn it, just like anybody.”If the covers resonated lyrically, so too do the originals. “I feel strongly about what’s going on with women,” Darling states. “So the song ‘This is Our Time’ is not only about what’s going on with women, but it’s also what’s going on with Cherie and me. Both of us having been in these girl groups who never really got their day in the sun. I’m not bitter about it, but this song is very intentional on my part. I said, ‘listen—this is about women. This is about you and me. This is our time, so let’s take it.’”Cherie Currie & Brie Darling’s The Motivator is the end product of years of groundbreaking musical and personal work. But it’s also a new beginning, an album infused with a power, joy and enthusiasm that was forged—and doubled—thanks to the inspiring and exceptional Currie and Darling collaboration. We want to hear from you! Kevin Gullickson brings a rich musical history to his work with Radio Drive. Early on, he received radio play in his hometown of Rochester, Minnesota, and followed up with a single that aired on stations in the Twin Cities. He traveled throughout Europe to develop his own sound and style which he later developed with The Blokes—a band that achieved instant success on the Minneapolis/St. Paul club scene, including First Avenue. The singer later moved to NYC where he continued writing, recording, and playing clubs in Greenwich Village as a solo musician. During this time, he received interest from five major record companies and several Grammy-winning producers. He set music aside after various disappointments but roared back as the guiding force of Radio Drive. In November 2009, the song “One Life To Give” from his debut Dream the Impossible was chosen to represent Sudan Hope, a humanitarian effort to help the people of Sudan. He appeared at a Hollywood fundraiser to perform this song live.“It seems that the songs and title of each album are a reflection of my life at that time,” says Gullickson. “Dream the Impossible was about reviving the dream of making music, which I had put on hold for a few years. Likewise, Life Today was about enjoying life and some of the things that define it. For me, This Is Our Time is a declaration that this is my time as an artist. I'm ready to bust through the other side and take charge of my life and the direction it's going. For years I thought life was something that just happened. But this last year I've seen my part and my responsibility in shaping my future. It's exciting and empowering and I'm ready for it!”

Willie Nile is currently in the midst of a creative renaissance that’s produced some of the most compelling music of his 35-year career. The tradition continues with his CD American Ride. The CD is being released on Loud and Proud Records, where Nile becomes the first artist released under the label’s new deal with RED Distribution.“It’s pretty rockin’ over all, but there are some left turns and right turns along the way,” Nile says of the album, which was fan-funded through Pledgemusic.com. “There are songs about the rights of man, songs about freedom, songs about love and hate, songs about loss, songs about God and the absence of God, and songs about standing up for your fellow man. It’s upbeat and full of life. I’m thrilled with how it came out.”American Ride offers a bracing set of 11 original compositions, and one well-chosen cover, that rank with the catchiest and most vivid music that Nile’s ever delivered. From the everyday wisdom of “Life on Bleecker Street” and “Sunrise in New York City” to the broader observations of “This Is Our Time” and “Holy War” to the rock ’n’ roll abandon of “Say Hey” and the road-tripping title track. Several of American Ride’s recurring themes come into focus on the last two songs, “The Crossing” and “There’s No Place Like Home,” which end the album on a note of humanistic uplift. Another highlight is a fiery reading of Jim Carroll’s “People Who Died,” recorded as a tribute to both Carroll, who passed away in 2009, and to Nile’s late brother John. American Ride features backup from Nile’s live band guitarist Matt Hogan, bassist Johnny Pisano, drummer Alex Alexander, and Nile on guitar & piano guest appearances by Eagles’ guitarist Steuart and New York singer-songwriters James Maddock & Leslie Mendelson.
