In this episode of the Ern & Iso Podcast, the fellas dive into one of the most debated hip-hop lists of the year: Complex's Top 50 New York Rappers of All Time.Did they get it right? Did they completely miss the mark? And why does every New York rap list seem to start an argument?Ern and Iso break down the rankings, discuss who was placed too high, who was disrespected, and which legendary MCs deserved a better spot. From the undeniable icons like Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie, Rakim, and LL Cool J to the newer generation of New York stars, the duo debates what really matters when ranking greatness: lyrics, impact, influence, longevity, commercial success, or cultural significance. The conversation also explores New York's historic role in hip-hop, how different eras should be judged, and whether fans allow nostalgia to outweigh actual accomplishments. Plus, the guys ask the ultimate question: Can any city compete with New York's rap legacy?Whether you're a backpack rap purist, a mainstream hip-hop fan, or someone who loves a good music debate, this episode is guaranteed to get you talking.
PLEASE SIGN UP ON PATREON, EVEN IF IT'S FOR FREE! Posting everything here has become a burden, and if you're only listening to this feed you probably aren't getting all of the episodes. Sign up now at Patreon. It’s two podcasts (Pod Yourself and the Frotcast) for the price of one! Patreon dot com slash frotcast! This episode is free, but $5 a month gets you all the premium ones (two a week!). This week on the Frotcast, bitter infighting consumed the group chat as the third day of negotiations about what to watch for this episode reached an impasse. While the talks were Vanced, the Strait of Discourse stayed mercifully open. What we're trying to say is, We didn't watch a movie this week. Sorry. Rapper/pornographer Ray J has months to live. He also has a very strange interview with Cam Newton's silly hat. Ray J answers the question “Are you gay?” with a story about what people do when they go home. It gets worse from there, believe it or not. A sample exchange: Ray J: “Do you listen to Biggie Smalls?” Cam: “Can you just answer my question?” We'll always love you for moving your hat 7 times in a 30 second conversation, Ray J. What we do in life echoes in eternity. Then we get some IRL Kyle Mooney action when streamer 4_Inches gets spotted at In N Out Burger (drink!) by Jakob with a K (drink!), the lead singer of Sublime (drink!). What follows is one of the dumbest conversations we've ever been privileged to hear. This then leads to one of the Frotcast's top two or three Nobel Prize-worthy anthropological theories; Socal bros = saltwater juggalos (drink!). Next, many are calling it The Most Australian Story Ever: man uses his dog to unsuccessfully bludgeon a murderous crocodile but is mercifully saved by a Sheila having a ciggy and his mate Kevin Bevin, who then blesses us with a wonderful new term for a penis. Finally, someone tried to assassinate Trump again, but this time it was a libbed out soyboy who geared up for murder and then took a mirror selfie doing the Lin-Manuel Miranda lip bite. WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING?? Perhaps making campaign pledges to only the most insane people in America and then aggressively doing the opposite has some sort of deleterious effect on said crazy people. Who can really know what is in anyone's heart though? The Frotcast's official BPD GF Olivia Reingold did what any good WCHP dinner journalist would do and documented the action by taking a selfie video. You can poison our houseplants any day, girl.

Barry, Abigail, and special guest Nick Martino discuss Ozomatli by Ozomatli and sample Sole of the Sea (collaboration with Rockport Brewing Company in Rockport, Massachusetts), Drip, and girl, so confusing from Lost Shoe Brewing and Roasting Company in Marlborough, Massachusetts.Nick is now a four-timer, having previously appeared on our second Christmas bonus episode, Bonus: A Christmas Day's Eve! Original Songs by Our Friends, and both of our live episodes: Bonus: LIVE from Stand Up! Pod Jam 2024: Pops on Hops Friend Exchange (New York Funk Exchange and Able Baker Brewing) and Bonus: LIVE from Stand Up! Pod Jam 2025: Neon Desert Challenge (the latter of which he also produced for us!). Give his previous appearances some love; they are a lot of fun!Nick, in part, chose to assign us this album because of Abigail's beef with He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince as displayed in Jukebox: He's the Drinker, We're the Talkers (DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince and Evil Genius Beer Company). Coincidentally, this album reminded Abigail of a different Derek Hummel, Sr., Jukebox selection, Make Yourself by Incubus, as discussed in Jukebox: Make Your Flight (Incubus and Hell 'n Blazes Brewing Co.).Both DJ Cut Chemist and MC Chali 2na left Ozomatli after this album because their other group, Jurassic 5, was blowing up.We found a great blog with additional information about and clips of Nick's favorite “trumpet battle” between Wynton Marsalis and Trombone Shorty at the House of Blues in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2009. Evidently, trumpet battles have been going on for over 100 years!Watch Chali 2na and New Orleans-based jazz band Naughty Professor perform Cut Chemist Suite live at the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2018!Oh look, more self-promotion! O Le Le names Edie Brickell, whom we have previously reviewed (see Using Honeybees for the Meads [Edie Brickell & New Bohemians and B. Nektar]). We could think of at least one other time an artist we reviewed explicitly names an artist we'd previously reviewed: Crash Test Dummies (see Pops Shuffled His Flight [Crash Test Dummies and Toll Road Brewing Company]) names David Bryne (see Byrned-Again [David Byrne and Lincoln & South Brewing Company]) in When I Go Out with Artists. These two latter albums are both among Abigail's top five favorite albums we've ever reviewed, as revealed in our Pops on Hops Hot 100 Special!Super Bowl Sundae contains a sample that sounds very similar to a sample previously discussed on the podcast: Hip Hop Dancer's Theme by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince samples Peter Piper by Run-D.M.C., which sampled Take Me to the Mardi Gras by Bob James.Abigail plugged The Manifesto (feat. Trueno and Proof) off of Gorillaz' recently released The Mountain, a song featuring both Indian influence and a Spanish-language rapper!girl, so confusing was brewed with the 2026 Pink Boots hop blend from Yakima Chief Hops. Rapper and entrepreneur Rico Richie joins a brand new episode of Skipping Class presented by The Progress Report and hosted by Lalaa Shepard. During the interview, Rico Richie reflects on his journey from being a standout football player at Georgia Tech and briefly making it to the NFL before transitioning into music. He opens up about the frustration and anger he experienced after football did not work out the way he envisioned, and how those same emotions resurfaced years later during the rise of his breakout 2015 single “Poppin.” Rico Richie speaks on “Poppin” becoming a massive record while he was serving time in prison, missing out on opportunities as the song exploded worldwide, and the emotional toll of watching his career take off while being locked up. He also discusses the “Poppin” remix featuring Chris Brown, Meek Mill, and French Montana, and how the momentum surrounding the record changed his life. The conversation also covers Epic Records offering him $750,000 for “Poppin” before Birdman later offered him $1 million in cash for the single. Rico Richie explains how everything shifted after getting caught up in the Lil Wayne tour bus shooting incident tied to Young Thug, ultimately causing him to miss out on major money and opportunities at the height of his buzz. Elsewhere in the interview, Rico Richie addresses his issues with comedian Lou Young, opening a studio in downtown Atlanta, prison life, fatherhood, boxing, street mentality, and shifting his focus toward growth, peace, business, and building a better future. Rico Richie also discusses his new single “Loaded,” his current mindset, and what's next for him moving forward. Interview conducted by Lalaa Shepard for The Progress Report. https://mylifeentertainment.net/SpotifyYoutubeInstagramBioML Underwood makes an unforgettable entrance in the opening moments of his “Still I Rise” music video, stepping out of a pristine white Rolls Royce in front of the crumbling ruins of City Church in Gary, Indiana. Dressed in a sleek black designer jacket, shades, and silver jewelry, he walks into a space marked by decay and history. The contrast says everything. Surrounded by broken walls and pain, Underwood represents resilience, strength, and transformation. The message of “Still I Rise” is rooted in reality. It speaks to chaos, struggle, and survival, while offering hope to those searching for a way out. Underwood's lyrics reflect a deep responsibility to his community, uplifting the downtrodden, the misunderstood, and those on the edge of losing their way. His message is clear: lead by example, choose growth, and rise above circumstances. That authenticity is resonating. Listeners have called the track uplifting, powerful, and even a new anthem. The song's impact is backed by real success, with strong radio rotation on Chicago's 92.3, millions of YouTube views, viral traction on TikTok, and a number one spot on the global iTunes chart. With a growing Spotify audience, Underwood's reach continues to expand across platforms and generations. At the heart of the track is collaboration and intention. “Still I Rise” features Danny Boy, the iconic voice known for his work with Death Row Records and artists like 2Pac. His soulful contribution elevates the record, giving it a timeless, classic feel. Underwood spent over a year crafting the song, carefully shaping its message through meditation, lived experience, and collaboration with longtime creative partners including Damon Jones, Grammy winning producer Tone Jonez, and family input that helped shape the melodic direction.Recorded in Chicago at Pressure Point Recording Studio, the track blends the essence of 90s hip hop with a modern voice grounded in truth. Underwood's music is not fabricated. Every lyric reflects real life, loss, survival, and perspective gained over his 27 year journey in the industry. His roots run deep in Gary, Indiana, a city rich with musical legacy. Named after Marlon Jackson, Underwood's connection to music began early. In the 1980s, he was part of Le Boiz, the first rap group from Gary signed to a label. Over the years, he expanded his influence as a promoter across music and boxing before returning to his own artistry with a renewed purpose.Today, ML Underwood stands as more than an artist. He is a voice of experience, a symbol of perseverance, and a beacon for those trying to find light in dark places. His story, like his music, is about getting back up no matter what life throws your way. As he puts it, life will hit you, but the key is you do not stay down. You rise.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

On this episode of the Some Dude… Pod, Mike B and J.R. Bang break down Netflix's “Roast of Kevin Hart” and ask if there is such a thing as jokes going too far or if people forgot what a roast is supposed to be. They debate whether roasts should even be televised in an era where every clip goes viral and context gets lost. Then they tap into the Druski and Erika Kirk controversy and how satire, “punching up,” and politics collide online today. From there, the guys run through some classic career moments like Chance the Rapper's “Acid Rap” era and the Freddie Gibbs / Jeezy / Jim Jones saga.
