Broadcast from KSQD, Santa Cruz on 11-13-2025: Dr. Dawn discusses a New England Journal of Medicine study examining radiation exposure from medical imaging in over 4 million children showing increased hematological cancer risk. Head and brain CTs deliver highest bone marrow doses, with under-1-year-olds receiving 20 milligrays compared to background radiation of 1 milligray yearly. The study found 3,000 cancers in 4 million children over roughly 10 years, with relative risk increasing 1.6-fold per CT scan. However, methodological flaws include combining US and Canadian cohorts with different data quality, potential reverse causation where imaging detected pre-existing cancers, and arbitrary 6-month latency assumptions are significant flaws in this study.. Despite small absolute risk increases given low baseline cancer rates, she encourages parents to question necessity of repeat scans and request alternatives like MRI when appropriate. She reports on cutting-edge CRISPR therapy using lipid nanoparticles to deliver molecular scissors targeting the ANGPTL3 gene controlling LDL cholesterol production. Recent setbacks in several other CRISPR trials raise issues for unexplained liver toxicity. Concerns include off-target gene editing effects and partially repaired DNA creating mutated proteins triggering autoimmune reactions. Dr. Dawn emphasizes restricting gene therapy to life-threatening genetic diseases with no alternatives until safety improves. Stanford scientists used AI model Evo trained on 9 trillion gene samples to design 300 new bacteriophages from scratch, with 16 phages successfully killing E. coli bacteria. AI tools now predict protein structures, design custom drugs, create antivenoms, invent antibiotics, and break down PFAS forever chemicals. The research represents evolution through computation and requires guardrails on AI's ability to manipulate biological structures. An emailer shares the Rosencare model where hotel chain owner Harris Rosen created self-insured health coverage featuring direct provider contracting, imaging facilities charging one-third to one-half traditional costs, transparent pharmacy benefit management, and zero or $5 primary care copays. Employees receive proactive screening for colonoscopies, mammograms, cholesterol, diabetes, and hypertension during clinic visits. Ninety percent of medicines including insulin cost nothing, with remaining drugs $0-25, and hospital admissions cost flat $750. The model saved $600 million while providing superior preventive care by eliminating insurance middlemen and focusing on early chronic disease detection when 75-85% of costs originate. Dr. Dawn explains abdominophrenic dyssynergia causing bloating unrelated to gas or food. The diaphragm descends and abdominal wall muscles relax, pushing organs forward after meals. CT scans showed lettuce-related bloating involved no intestinal gas changes but demonstrated this abnormal muscle reflex. Randomized trials showed biofeedback training with chest-lifting and abdominal wall contracting exercises before and after eating for four weeks improved symptoms 66%. She warns that constant bloating in postmenopausal women unrelated to eating requires ovarian cancer screening. She discusses how genes drive personality using dopamine receptor gene DRD4 polymorphisms as an example. The 7-repeat variant present in 48% of Americans creates receptors binding dopamine poorly, associating with ADHD, pathological gambling, alcoholism, drug dependence, and bulimia, plus personality traits of novelty-seeking, impulsiveness, and optimism. The 2-repeat DRD4 variant common in Asia correlates with lower anger and higher forgiveness. DRD2 variations enhance the memory of negative outcomes, creating pessimistic bias and avoidance behavior. She presents the KETO trial showing "lean mass hyper-responder phenotype" where very low-carbohydrate dieters averaging age 55 maintained LDL cholesterol of 272 for five years but showed identical coronary artery calcium scores and plaque burden as matched controls with LDL under 150. Despite extreme LDL elevation, the very low insulin levels from carbohydrate restriction prevent LDL oxidation, the inflammatory "loading" process enabling arterial damage. She concludes with unusual cancer symptom where recurrent pain in specific body locations after alcohol consumption, lasting 1-2 days, occurs in 5% of Hodgkin lymphoma patients and in other cancers when alcohol induced blood vessel dilation and inflammatory chemical release in cancer-containing lymph nodes causes pain after drinking.

Con la llegada al poder del presidente de centroderecha Rodrigo Paz, Bolivia da vuelta a la página de 20 años de gobierno del partido de izquierda Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) y lo hace buscando salir de una profunda crisis económica sacudida por los hidrocarburos, sector que ese movimiento transformó durante su gobierno y que hoy es una de las principales causas de su ruptura. Un reportaje de Paola Ariza, enviada especial a Bolivia.  "Queremos una nueva Bolivia, una nueva estructura, una nueva vida", "el país viene muy quebrado", "estamos sumamente dolidos de como al país lo han manejado a su antojo", "esperemos que mejore", "tenemos esperanza en el cambio", decían, entre otros, la comerciante Justina, la farmacéutica Belkis, el ingeniero Juan Pablo y la profesora Meris, que RFI entrevistó en La Paz.  Pese a que no hay consenso en los detalles, los bolivianos se pusieron de acuerdo en que hay sed de cambio y dieron un giro histórico a la derecha en las pasadas elecciones en las que resultó como ganador al senador Rodrigo Paz del Partido Demócrata Cristiano (PDC). En 2005 el país ya había dado un giro drástico, cuando un dirigente cocalero de origen aimara arrolló en aquellas elecciones, poniendo fin a un ciclo de gobiernos liberales en una Bolivia desigual. "Ahora estamos acá para nacionalizar todos los recursos naturales, para recuperar todos los recursos naturales que han sido subastadas", decía en ese entonces el presidente electo Evo Morales, ante un estadio lleno en su natal Cochabamba.  Veinte años después, Bolivia da fin a ese ciclo del Movimiento Al Socialismo (MAS), el partido de Evo Morales, y luego del mandatario saliente Luis Arce, que dejan al país en cuidados intensivos, sobre todo en materia económica, en particular por la escasez de dólares, la falta de combustibles y la caída de las exportaciones. El gas está en el corazón de la crisis económica Gary Rodríguez, economista y gerente general del Instituto Boliviano de Comercio Exterior, indicó que "esta situación de crisis se ha dado principalmente porque el Estado, que era un fuerte actor dentro del modelo hacia el socialismo, instaurado desde el año 2006, hizo del gas el principal actor de la economía", por lo que el aparato público era exportador y también importador. Para Rodríguez, el problema se generó cuando el Estado que exportaba gas natural, "que le llegó a devengar 6.500 millones de dólares en el año 2013, hoy en día genera 2.000 millones. Es decir, se redujo a una tercera parte". Rodríguez agrega que las importaciones han ido en una crecida permanente por la caída de la producción de combustibles líquidos, lo que ha llevado a pasar de 200 millones de dólares en el 2005 a importaciones superiores a los 2.800 millones de dólares en los últimos años. "Ese desbalance es lo que ha disminuido las reservas internacionales netas de Bolivia y con eso la incertidumbre en el país ha florecido y ha traído como consecuencia un proceso inflacionario", explicó el economista.  Hace un poco más de 10 años, Bolivia brillaba por sus exportaciones de gas. Gracias a este recurso el país llegó a casi triplicar sus ingresos per cápita en 2013 y a reducir la pobreza. Pero hoy esa bonanza llegó a su fin y el principal reflejo son las constantes filas en las estaciones de servicio. Transportistas como Antenor Antunes, que trabaja en el aeropuerto Viru Viru, en Santa Cruz de la Sierra son víctimas de esta situación: "Con la falta de gasolina, nos quedamos como 4 o 5 horas haciendo fila para poder cargar. Es un perjuicio para nosotros", señaló. Laura Vega trabaja como taxista en Santa Cruz y cuenta que ha debido sacrificar sus horas de sueño para obtener gasolina. "Es terrible porque se hacen unas colas impresionantes, a veces uno tiene que hacer cola durante 24 hora, 48 horas. Muchas veces toca quedarse a dormir en los surtidores para esperar que lleguen las cisternas y descarguen. Esto ocurre en todos los surtidores".  "Hoy en día, cerca del 60% del consumo de gasolina y más del 90% del consumo de diésel debe ser importado", afirma el economista Gary Rodríguez, quien lamenta la caída de la industria del gas en el país. "En el año 2006, el gobierno llamó a la nacionalización de los recursos de hidrocarburos, incluso hizo tomas con el ejército de empresas transnacionales, por ejemplo, Petrobras y otras. Pero, en realidad, no se nacionalizó, sino que se cambió la cuantía de pago de impuestos para las empresas petroleras transnacionales, de tal manera que para ellos ya no era negocio seguir operando bajo ese nuevo esquema". Rodríguez explica que esas empresas no se fueron del país, pero sí dejaron de invertir en Bolivia. Esto hizo que "los mega-campos que se tenían en ese entonces se han ido agotando y no han habido nuevos que se incorporen", indicó el economista, agregando que fue así como "la producción empezó a bajar y al mismo tiempo subía la demanda, disparando la importación".  Aumenta la importación de hidrocarburos y el gasto de dólares "La alta importación de hidrocarburos resulta costosa para la empresa estatal Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), que controla toda la cadena productiva de hidrocarburos, y que consume una buena parte de los dólares del aparato estatal y hasta del mercado paralelo", explica Pedro Sanabria,  cambista en Santa Cruz. "Cuando YPFB venía y compraba dólares, no venía y compraba 50 mil dólares, sino que venía y compraba 300, 400, 500 mil dólares. Y si no hay, los mismos cambistas especulan porque dicen: 'yo estoy vendiendo con 12,80 y estos otros van a comprar sí o sí'. Entonces venden con 13. Si uno ya vende con 13, el otro vende con 13,10. El otro dice: 'estos no tienen dólares, yo vendo con 13,20', y es así que, al final, de boca en boca, hacen subir el precio", agregó.  Según Sanabria, más allá de la escasez, el corazón de esta crisis de dólares es la especulación que causa la subida del billete verde, clave para las importaciones. Y como Bolivia se volvió altamente importador con un peso fuerte mientras su industria se debilita, hoy sigue necesitando esas mismas importaciones, pero con un dólar escaso y caro, lo que dispara los precios.  Bolivia, uno de los países con mayor inflación en Latinoamérica "Hace 2 años el mejor arroz costaba 7 pesos, casi un dólar. Ahora, ni siquiera el mejor arroz cuesta 15 pesos", cuenta Justina, una comerciante de Santa Cruz que también nos comenta las dificultades que tiene para pagar las facturas. Esto tambiné lo vive Fernanda Rivera, barista y estudiante de psicología. "Desde el papel higiénico hasta el agua, la leche, el pan, la carne. Lo que comprabas con 200 bolivianos, y que duraba aproximadamente 4 días, ahora te dura 2 días", dice.  En las calles, pensar en precios y promociones hace parte del día a día y no es para menos pues el país está en recesión hasta al menos 2027, según proyecciones del Banco Mundial. Además, tiene una de las tasas de inflación más altas de la región: de enero a septiembre ésta se ubicó en el 18%, poniendo a Bolivia en el mismo club inflacionario que Venezuela y Argentina. La crisis ha golpeado un sinfín de sectores y uno de los que más ha sufrido es el de los medicamentos. Según Belkis, química-farmacéutica, "algunos han subido más del 130% y generalmente los que son de especialidad como los oncológicos, han subido más del 200%. Ahora la gente está optando por medicamentos genéricos y ya no los de marca", indicó.  División en el MAS En medio de un alza de precios cotidiana, numeroisos bolivisanos dicen sentirse asfixiados y listos para pasar la página del MAS, el movimiento que durante dos décadas gozó de una avalancha de apoyo electoral. Hoy ese movimiento fue derrotado en las urnas y está dividido, como constata Wilma Alanoca, Concejal de El Alto, y quien fuera fórmula vicepresidencial de Evo Morales, pese al impedimento legal al expresidente para presentarse. "Considero que la elección como candidato de Luis Arce definitivamente fue un error porque él no viene de una trayectoria militante activa de la defensa de los derechos como sí lo fue Evo. Su tarea fue meramente administrativa y, disculpen que lo diga, pero para mí Luis Arces es simplemente un vulgar ladrón", aseveró. Alanoca acusa a Arce de haber orquestado la salida del exmandatario Evo Morales como actor en estas elecciones, además de haber corrompió a toda la dirigencia del MAS. Es el causante de la división, ha elevado a tal nivel la ambición, que muchos dirigentes se han olvidado para que estaban allí", indicó Alanoca, quien se desempeñó también como ministra de Culturas y Turismo.  Hugo Moldiz, exasesor del exmandatario Luis Arce, coincide con ella en que al MAS lo destruyó, en gran parte, la división interna, pero responsabiliza de ello a Morales. "Las organizaciones políticas y sus dirigentes se habían convertido en actores pasivos bastante proclives a la prebenda. A esto hay que sumarle la guerra interna en el MAS y las organizaciones sociales, además de un expresidente que, en vez de esperar al 2024 para definir quién iba a ser el candidato para el 2025, desde el año 2021, a los pocos meses de haber regresado al país, lo que hizo fue desplegar contra Luis Arce una implacable guerra. El resultado es el que estamos viendo ahora: una victoria de la derecha y una derrota electoral de la izquierda. Ahora nos queda por ver si el próximo gobierno es de transición o no", apunta.   Pese a las riñas internas, ambos se niegan a que el capítulo del MAS esté cerrado, tal vez como sigla está fragilizado, dicen, pero aseguran que sus facciones políticas estarán vigilando al nuevo gobierno y esperando pacientemente para resurgir. "Hay que esperar, no sé cuánto tiempo, puede ser más rápido de lo que pensamos. Puede ser que la realidad objetiva le demuestre a la gente que terminó creyendo en un espejismo", señaló Moldiz.  Bolivia inicia un nuevo ciclo político ¿Qué sigue ahora?  Y, sobre todo ¿logrará el nuevo gobierno resolver el desastre económico que han heredado? Tras su viaje a Estados Unidos y desde antes de su investidura Rodrigo Paz anunció un acuerdo con el Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe (CAF) de 3.100 millones de dólares para reactivar la economía boliviana, principalmente para atender la crisis de los hidrocarburos. Está por verse si su política de "capitalismo para todos" coincide con la fuerza socialista que sostuvo al MAS durante dos décadas o si marca el inicio de un nuevo ciclo para el país andino.

Kroz jasne okvire i točno postavljanje pitanja, shvatila sam koliko su pristup i mindset pola posla: ista edukacija nekoga oduševi, a nekoga razočara, ovisi što traži i s kakvim očekivanjima dolazi. Kratki susret s Alexom Hormozijem i rad s njegovim timom nisu “manje vrijedni”; zapravo vidiš kako ljudi na tom nivou misle, odlučuju i štite svoje vrijeme. Umjesto da prepričavam tuđu metodologiju, dijelim ono što se meni pomaknulo iznutra: kako donosim odluke, gdje trošim energiju u poslovanju i zašto je ponekad najhrabriji potez pojednostaviti.Nakon ove dvodnevne radionice, shvatila sam da pravi rast ne dolazi iz još jednog savjeta, već iz promjene pristupa. Da ponekad najskuplja stvar nije edukacija, nego pogrešna očekivanja. Petra su petorica inspektora kriminalističke policije izveli iz stana sa lisicama u svojstvu građanina i odveli ga u policijsku stanicu gde je bilo i nameštano snimanje. On ih je prozreo i rekao: ‘Evo da se nasmejem za tu i tu televiziju, jer znam gde će snimak završiti.' Tako je i bilo. Advokat je tražio pravni osnov, a odgovor je bio da je snimak rađen radi analize policijskog postupanja prilikom hapšenja, a to nije moglo biti hapšenje jer on u svojstvu građanina.” Više na radar.rs

Este 16 de octubre inicia el silencio electoral en Bolivia, país que se prepara para un balotaje histórico entre Rodrigo Paz y Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga. Los candidatos, que simbolizan el fin de 20 años de hegemonía del MAS, cerraron sus respectivas campañas prometiendo reformar la economía y ser el cambio. Por nuestra enviada especial a Bolivia, Paola Ariza Baile, música y hasta juegos pirotécnicos protagonizaron los cierres de campaña de Rodrigo Paz, senador centrista, y Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga, el expresidente conservador. “Esta es la única opción” Quiroga eligió La Paz como su último escenario y prometió convertir a Bolivia en potencia exportadora: “Bolivia va a ser conocida por exportar litio, baterías, zinc, estaño, plomo, plata, soya, quinua, aceite de soya, vino, tarijeño. Vamos a ser un gran país. Dignos, todos juntos para cambiar para siempre”, declaró. Un discurso de libertad de mercados que parece convencer a su electorado: “Como muchos bolivianos, ya estamos cansados de vivir bajo un régimen, bajo el abuso, bajo la tiranía, bajo el empobrecimiento que nos ha llevado todos estos 20 años el Movimiento Al Socialismo. Y coincidimos muchas personas, las que estamos acá, que esta es la única opción”, expresaba una de sus partidarias. Otra subrayaba: “Yo vengo del Alto y veo las necesidades graves y la corrupción en su punto. Pobre mi patria, ojalá que toque este candidato, pero que sea para bien”. “¡Bolivia no se vende!” Rodrigo Paz, que a veces se autodenomina de centro derecha, eligió la capital económica Santa Cruz de la Sierra como una de sus últimas grandes citas. Allí hizo un llamado a la unidad y criticó las propuestas de su opositor. “Yo no quiero que Bolivia sea esclavo de ningún banco internacional. ¡Ya basta de vender a la patria! ¡Ya basta de vender a la patria! ¡Bolivia no se vende, Bolivia no se vende!”, enfatizó Paz en su discurso. Entre sus seguidores también explota el hambre de cambio, incluso entre aquellos que han defendido el MAS. “Porque Tuto no nos representa, Tuto representa a los oligarcas, corbata blanca. Es un empleado más de Donald Trump. El país colapsó con el presidente éste que tenemos ahorita, que debería estar preso ya, el Arce. Él ahora le pesa al compañero Evo porque se confundió y se equivocó y le entregó el poder al lobo que se comió las ovejas”, analizaba una mujer. “Es más del pueblo, más de nosotros, digamos que de nuestro nivel social”, estimaba otra sobre Paz, mientras que un simpatizante afirmaba que “ahorita nos está afectando la crisis a nivel nacional, hay escasez de combustible, tenemos una esperanza de que ellos lo vayan a solucionar”. Pese a las diferencias, todo parece indicar que el país andino grita por un cambio radical. Los resultados de este domingo dirán qué color tendrá ese cambio.

In 2014, at the World gymnastics championships in Nanning China. Donnell Whittenburg burst onto the international stage at the age of twenty, performing incredibly difficult gymnastics routines and helping team USA win the bronze medal. One year later, Donnell was able to keep his composure under immense pressure and stood atop the World championships vault podium winning bronze again alongside the Olympic champion Ri Se-gwang and the great Marian Dragulescu. Most recently Donnell has been selected to represent team USA at the upcoming World gymnastics championships in Indonesia. Donnell is now training at EVO gymnastics and has hopes of representing the US men's gymnastics team at the LA 2028 Olympic Games. And this is his story.
