Matt grew up in the same town as me and we spent a lot of our summer evenings at the local skatepark & winters under the cover of a Morrisons carpark skating & BMXing. He was from the generation above me, so I would look up to him & his group of friends who were in bands and had cars to carry ramps around town. Jumping forward nearly 20 years and last summer I heard Matt had started a YouTube channel as a way to connect with other makers and get out of a solo working funk we all can find ourselves in. He's built house extensions, plastered bathrooms & fitted out retail shops. Recently he has focused his craft on cabinetry & joinery for residential clients. We spent the afternoon chatting about his journey and the workshop space he has in the Bedfordshire county side. https://www.instagram.com/wattsjoinerybarn/ https://www.youtube.com/@Wattsjoinerybarn - - - If you would like to contribute to this series then please feel free to get in touch. Check out the full-video edit of this episode, complete with cutaways, on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCscDbMTovs2Zww6by8HSDMg 1986's BMX, underdog, feel-good, teen, coming of age cult movie "Rad" is coming back to theaters this Thursday for a holiday called "Rad day" and, in preparation for it, I decided to sit down with my good friend/podcast co-host Raekwon to give the movie a run down. The film follows Cru, a paperboy/diner employee who loves BMXing as he prepares for a race against the nations best BMX racers. Along the way, he meets Christian (Lori Loughlin), a biker for the Mongoose team who quickly falls in love with him. He also butts heads with Ms. Rocky Balboa herself, Talia Shire, and Duke Best (who might be the craziest person ever). It's a movie. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mediaobscura/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mediaobscura/support

BMXing prodigy Kieran Reilly is one of the most explosive comp riders on the BMX park scene today and has been blowing up screens since he was a kid. Search online and it won't take you long to find a video of Kieran Reilly, aged 11, landing a 720 over a spine at Unit 23 in Glasgow, Scotland. Although still dwarfed by his bike, it was clear from a young age that he was a special talent – and one with a penchant for spins, flips and whips. Signed to Bas Keep's Tall Order team, he made his FISE debut in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength ever since, including a starring role in Drew Bezanson's Red Bull Uncontained 2019-winning team. He signed up for CrossFit awhile back to help him grow stronger and fitter to ultimately accomplish the Triple Flair. Something that had never been seen in the BMX world. Outside of competition runs, Kieran is a prolific YouTuber. His channel is well worth subscribing to and is jam-packed with amazing practice sessions and videos of Kieran pushing himself and the sport to the next level. BMX'ER Ryan Henderson join Louise to chat all things wheelies and BMXing as he bids to make the next olympics. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
After a short break, we're celebrating our 100th episode with an Olympics Special.Sure, we can barely remember the names of any of the athletes, our knowledge of most of the sports is sketchy and the time difference is an issue but it's fair to say, we've both enjoyed Japan's Not Football extravaganza. So much has happened inside the first 10 days that we can barely scratch the surface but that doesn't stop us from trying. Weightlifting vs swimming, 13-year-olds on the podium, high jumpers sharing gold, the politicisation of sport and batshit crazy BMXing all make the cut as we deliver our mild to medium-hot takes. We didn't feel we could ignore the beautiful game altogether, so football kicks off part two. What's going on at Arsenal? Are City about to smash their transfer record twice over? And are we excited about the return of the Premier League? It's up for debate.Cricket's The Hundred has been garnering lots of headlines, good and bad since it got going a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't look that different to 'normal' cricket in our eyes but it's entertaining enough. Naturally, we focus on the snack brands emblazoned on the shirt of each franchise...that's where the big debate is.The Lions tour of South Africa has proved to be a feisty affair on the pitch. Delicately balanced at 1-1, we're expecting even more fireworks in the series decider. The big question is whether Rassie Erasmus will continue to stoke the fires using his burner account.Enjoy the show!Every week on Left Field, Wogan and Allen dissect the latest in Football and Not Football. As you know, we (The Brothers Moriarty) grew up on Long Island, nestled between the water and the woods. It's the latter that we thought we'd focus this particular episode on. We absolutely adore the woods. Playing, hiking, exploring. We basically lived amongst the trees as children! Thus, we thought it would be fun to regale you with some stories of our past being in the woods: Boy Scouts, mountain biking, BMXing, and running away from fictional foes. Discovering new things, using our imaginations, getting to know ourselves and others... and maybe catching some poison ivy, too. Are you an arborist like we are? Only one way to find out.
