April 2005 - Nine young Australians were arrested attempting to smuggle 8.3kg of heroin out of Bali. Indonesian authorities were working on a tip from the Australian Federal Police who had informed their Indonesian counterparts in the hope that it would lead to the identification of the drug syndicate distribution network and other players higher up in the chain. It didn't. What it did do was ensure that these nine offenders would be trialled and sentenced in a country where the penalties for drug trafficking are more harshly imposed than those for murder. ***Welcome to episode 9 - the following are a list of links used in researching for this episode: https://www.rappler.com/world/regions/asia-pacific/indonesia/bahasa/englishedition/141384-executions-death-penalty-process https://www.smh.com.au/world/long-days-journey-into-a-nightmare-20050423-gdl6or.html https://www.smh.com.au/world/surprise-at-alleged-bali-nine-leader-20050506-gdl9mt.html https://www.rappler.com/world/regions/asia-pacific/indonesia/88468-fast-facts-mary-jane-fiesta-veloso https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/apr/28/mary-jane-veloso-indonesia-execution-reprieve https://www.smh.com.au/world/indonesia-steps-up-killing-of-death-row-prisoners-20130517-2jrzb.html https://mashable.com/2015/04/28/indonesia-bali-nine-australians/ https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/books-magazines/books/moment-bali-nine-families-found-out/news-story/5253d32f689ae330f1b3ecbc1574cb8d?utm_source=google&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=dsa_books_mag&gclid=CjwKCAiAg9rxBRADEiwAxKDTuk0SphkLmbd8J1trb-7C8Il1hFyD3_0Ll7VXNgQrHoZj7DkiR3-hYRoCJW4QAvD_BwE https://www.news.com.au/national/crime/left-behind-to-rot-bali-five-to-die-in-jail/news-story/d66e41262452556d292cf8b708325630 https://www.news.com.au/world/asia/last-hours-on-death-island-bali-nines-final-moments-before-firing-squad/news-story/51f777e9ea09efa27024fa35cc6753d0 https://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/news/last-hours-on-death-island-bali-nines-final-moment/3406922/ https://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/news/how-lies-arrogance-and-cockiness-earned-bali-9-kin/3401989/ https://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-02-12/bali-nine-timeline-andrew-chan-myuran-sukumaran/6085190 https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2005/05/bali-m11.html?view=print https://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/news/bali-nine-widespread-scorn-after-firing-squad-exec/2622242/ https://thewest.com.au/news/bali/bali-9-the-woman-the-firing-squad-left-behind-ng-b88823062z

1884 - far off the coast of the Cape of Good Hope discussion began between a group of men as to which one of them should be sacrificed so that the other three may have a chance of survival. They had already spent over two weeks out at sea on a deteriorating lifeboat; their paltry rations long gone and they were drifting out in the ocean half way between Africa and South America. Welcome to the historic case of Dudley & Stephens. Whoot! I've done a little bit of editing on this episode - although you'd probably never guess it. Thanks guys. It was a treachery of sorts and for that they sacrificed any clemency. Welcome to the story of Elizabeth Woolcock - a woman who was given no mercy in life or death.

Thank you so much for your patience while I tackle some editing. It turns out that editing is not nearly as cumbersome as I had it pegged as. 1978 Illinois: The ‘Freedom Club' wages a 17 year terror campaign - sending mail bombs indiscriminately targeting whoever associated with tech development or damage to the environment. The Unabomber's 35,000 word manifesto would suggest he had a fair bit to say; yet he waited 15 years to mention any of it. Hi welcome - this is Nightmare Somewhere. In this episode I'm sharing two cases that occured in the Perth suburb of Carlisle. The first one is the 1931 murder-suicide of the Davies family and the second is the 2018 murder of Fahima Yusuf who was killed by her husband and buried in their backyard. The crimes did just occur streets apart and involve fathers in their 30's who had planned and carried out an action that they thought might solve their hardships. I reckon that is where the similarities end hey. I'd really like to hear what you think of how they compare with one another. My email address is nightmaresomewhere@mail.com The following contains distressing content including the deaths of children. It may also contain coarse language.
