Hi, my name is Krista Overly - After turning 50 I saw that the coming decades would require more BOLDNESS if I wanted to make things happen. Of course it's not easy, but life feels more vibrant and satisfying when I try new things. Knowing I'm not alone in making changes and taking chances this podcast is filled with the journeys of others who made the decision to make a bold decision and take action. Listen in, share your thoughts with me, and join the movement to not only be older but also bolder! Anne is a mother, writer and philanthropist. Together we talk honestly and unflinchingly about what brought her to co-found the Unexpected Project, a 100% volunteer-led non-profit that shares the stories of those who survived (or lost someone who did not) a harrowing complication in pregnancy. This is a conversation where we quickly go deep into Anne's experience and what she's learned from others along the way while also continuing the Unexpected Project, working on a documentary, and writing a book. Anne also shares her desire to spread the word to remove stigma and shame that many mothers feel after such experiences. Hello Listener! While I'm taking a short break from publishing, I'm happily working on new episodes for Season 3. After the last episode I was reminded that there's another way people stop themselves from taking action. Inside the episode I share what that way is and two reasons it might be showing up. I also share a couple of questions I use to help uncover why that particular way is showing up and how to work with it, instead of being upset and stuck. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is also the last episode for Season 2. I'll be on a short break while I work on new episodes and a slightly different format for Season 3. Between now and the new season I'll share a few popular episodes from the first season of my podcast - keep your eyes open for those! In this episode I share the three main ways I see people stop themselves. I talk about both the helpful and unhelpful aspects of those ways, and how to work with turning around the unhelpful reactions back to helpful ones. Here are the questions I mentioned at the end that you can ask yourself: Why do I want to do this? 2. What do I love about (doing) it? 3. How can I "disrupt" this unhelpful viewpoint? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Disclaimer: There are quite a few reasons why you might be stopping yourself from taking action, including PTSD and CPTSD. If you think your inability to take action may be due to trauma I encourage you to seek a qualified mental health professional for care. PTSD = Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder CPTSD = complex PTSD I'll refer you to this medically-reviewed article which explains in more detail what can lead to either condition and when you may want to seek help. https://www.insider.com/cptsd-vs-ptsd Thanks for listening and if you want to reach out to me directly send me a message at: krista@kristaoverly.com Do you want to join my email list? In this episode I share something I've been noticing and working through in my life: the Either/Or Trap of cyclical thinking. I explain: What the Either/Or Trap is and how it shows up for me and some of my clients. What typically keeps you stuck in the binary of only two answers to a situation or problem. How my clients and I have worked through the challenge of only seeing two answers and finding more possible options. The tool and process I use to help move out of the cyclical Either/Or thought loop and into more choice. The book I referenced: "Questions Are The Answer" by Hal Gregersen. If you want to let me know how this tool worked out for you, feel free to write me at: krista@kristaoverlycoaching.com --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/older-and-bolder/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/older-and-bolder/support
Trying the new, the different, or the unique often leads to seeking plans, advice, and input from others. But when you're creating a brand-new path you'll need to call up belief and courage. In this shorter episode I share a recent experience I've been going through and how an article I happened to see helped me realize that "winging it" is my best option. If you're currently "winging it" I'd love to hear how you're handling it. Why do some of us still need 'permission' to wear an outfit, try a new hobby, stop coloring our hair, etc.? Is this you now, or are you working through getting past wanting someone else's approval? Then this episode is for you. I talk about: Why needing permission may still show up for you. Why you don't need anyone else's "permission" or approval. And, how to start letting that need go with small experiments. **There's at least one swear word in this episode, hence the Explicit rating. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/older-and-bolder/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/older-and-bolder/support

Last week at end of the episode i mentioned that I was going to share how to make being bold a bit more fun. I wanted to share this with you because : I had my own ideas of what fun was, and it wasn't being bold My own definition of being a bolder woman wasn't very positive For a long part of my own life I was a people pleaser which, A. wasn't fun, and B, wasn't bold, and it kept me from being bold. I'm also sharing a few tips to help with bringing more fun and enjoyment to experimenting with and taking bolder action. Here's the link to the YouTube video I mentioned about the person dancing at a music festival: https://youtu.be/9_xIoJzZtKg Want to share your experiences trying one of these tips?
